And I have another huge playlist, even bigger than the last one, and haven't even put the "popular" stuff, i.e. Chipmunk, on it. Actually I'd rather listen to the Chipmunks that recorded Witch Doctor than this particular artist, but that's just me being old-fashioned again. Probably if the track were repeated enough times in the gym I would get to know it and even like it....
So yes, another #1 and another one that made no impact on the UK chart whatsoever. So far this year the only NM #1 to have reached the UK chart was the tribute hit for Michael Jackson. Of the UK #1s, only Lady GaGa's "Just Dance", right at the start of the year, has reached the NM top 10.
Not that my chart is all "indie rock" either. Radiola is about as disco-pop as it gets. Athlete, Idlewild and Graham Coxon were all once "chart acts" too.
If 11.59 (actually 11:59 but due to the fact you cannot use : in a file-name and I have to file these, I do not include characters that cannot appear in filenames in either titles or artist names. That also includes slash characters, question marks and asterisks) can get to #1 that will be the first act this year to have managed a second chart-topper. Mika clearly won't make it now. Slow Club are on the next playlist though so they could potentially do it.

3 songs in your top 20 made the real top 20 thats not a bad ratio, just 3 in my top 20 as well although a few of my pre-releases should go top 20 in the next couple of weeks ie Editors, Biffy Clyro and Mr Hudson.

I know that Muse, Mika and Paloma Faith, who are all in my top 10, were UK hits. I also know that Aqua's comeback flopped in the UK. That kind of pop ain't popular no more...

Aqua was hurt by Itunes blocking its video up until the week before it came out. Aqua are a videos band without that promotion it struggled, but the Aqua best of charted though.

I'll be honest and say that most of the songs in your chart I've never heard of. But I do like some songs. Muse, Mika and Paloma Faith are my favourites from your top ten.
I'm interested in hearing the Gaslight Anthem song. I liked a track from them call "Old White Lincoln", so I shall try and track it down.
A song which a really like though is Lou Barlow - The Right, which is currently #9 in my chart. I stumbled across it a couple of weeks ago, and I really like it.

I will catch up with your chart - probably by listening and commenting along with the year-end countdown. 'To My Bones' is a very good #1 - did I mention I chose it as my 'Song of the Month' for September (I post this on my Facebook profile page each month, under 'Music')? It came too late for this year's IJ Top 200, but it has a good chance of appearing in next year's.

After several weeks of trying to find some decent music, this week's release list finally had a few great pop-rock anthems in it. No room then for either Alexandra or Robbie who were both on the playlist. Robbie has had a string of #1s in his past on this chart but this one with too many references to Jesus never got me. As it happens we missed the first week of the X-Factor due to Simchat Torah so obviously it didn't get the "promotion" there for me. Alexandra only got in my chart previously sharing the credit with Jeff Buckley on "Hallelujah" and when I play my chart countdown I always played Buckley's version (because it was far superior). A shame because Alexandra was my favourite in the show and I wanted her to do well. Just don't like the song.

After what seemed like ages but was actually only 3 weeks of Wallis Bird (well it climbed there very slowly) we have a new #1. The Raveonettes first appeared a few years back with That New Love Sound and it reached the UK top 40 but now they've moved to a smaller record label and don't stand any chance of getting any recognition by the radio anymore, a shame because their song is very much more "pop" than TGLS.
In doing so they become the second artist this year to get to #1 having had previous hits but no #1s prior to the year - Milk Kan were the other a few weeks ago. They are the second Danish act proper to top the chart with Alphabeat being the first last year and Alphabeat only scrape into the chart this week. Metallica are sort-of part Danish and had a #1 in 2008 as well (after Alphabeat). Aqua have never had an NM #1 but at least their recent hit went top 10. I think Whigfield scraped my chart once and the name of the artist at #89 reminds me of another novelty Danish hit that reached my chart 8 years ago (peaking at #5 in fact! And the artist who was #1 that week enters this week as well at #95).
Just missing out on the top spot are (The) Law, who have peaked at #2 before, in 2007 with Milk And Honey. I will compile a list of all the acts who have had two or more NM #2s during the 00s but no #1s (ever, even before the decade). Death Cab For Cutie are among that list too.

Very good number one ,dreadful number 2.
THe Ravenoettes had their chance to break through, they have plaenty fans and popular live so not being radio darlings will hardly effect them much now look at it this way if 'The Great Love Sound' was released in 2009 with decent airplay it probably still wouldn't make the top 100 either
I actually know your 2 highest entries although Mando Diao have released another track this week just to be confusing

The version I have of The Chase is the full version which is over 5 minutes long. It ends with a really nice bit that reminds me a bit of Ooberman. Without that bit I don't think it would have got as high as #2.
I didn't see another Mando Diao song, but they've been having hits in my chart for years.

In my commentary I mentioned that the only artists who have had #1s this year and no previous #1s but did have hits before were the current #1 and Milk Kan but actually Wallis Bird also had two chart entries in 2007, which peaked at the lowly positions of #71 and #79 respectively. Her single from 2008 failed to chart (but was the first bubbler) and she had a #13 earlier in 2009 prior to her #1 which is the one I remember.
Artists during the 00s who have achieved their second #2 and have never had a #1: Two of them had their first #2 in 1999.
Hobotalk - I've Seen Some Things (2000) / Walks With Me (2000) Straw - Aeroplane Song (1999) / Sailing Off The Edge Of The World (2001) Super Furry Animals - Juxtaposed With U (2001) / It's Not The End Of The World (2002) Obi - Somewhere Nicer (2002) / To Some Folk (2003) Shins - Know Your Onion (2002) / So Says I (2004) Adam Green - Jessica (2004) / Emily (2005) / Carolina (2005) Bees - Wash In The Rain (2004) / Chicken Payback (2005) Hard Fi - Tied Up Too Tight (2005)/ Hard To Beat(2005) / Cash Machine (2006) Death Cab For Cutie - A Movie Script Ending (2002) / I Will Follow You Into The Dark (2006) Snow Patrol - Run (2004) / Chasing Cars (2006) Divine Comedy - The Pop Singer's Fear Of The Pollen Count (1999) / To Die A Virgin (2006) Black Box Recorder - The Art Of Driving (2000) / Christmas Number One (Black Arts) (2007) Amy MacDonald - This Is The Life (2008) / Run (2008) Law - Milk And Honey (2007)/The Chase (2009)
- Adam Green had a #1 with the Moldy Peaches - Luke Haines of Black Box Recorder had a #1 with The Auteurs - Neil Hannon of The Divine Comedy featured on a #1 by Robbie Williams (with Neil Tennant) on No Regrets
Paul Heaton has peaked at #2 three times during the 00s - once with Biscuit Boy, once with The Beautiful South and once solo. He isn't on the list above though because The Beautiful South had 6 NM #1s between 1989 and 1996.

Sometimes I think the size of the chart puts people off reading it, but I have so many songs on the playlist that if it were any smaller I would have to exclude even more than I do now. A-Ha who had a huge #3 earlier this year are only a bubbler, as are Wave Pictures who had a #1 last year and another top 5 hit earlier this year. Pink and Biffy Clyro failed to even make the bubblers, actually they were the next two after the ones listed, but I compile a top 130 in reality made up of the previous week's top 100 and the top 30 of the new releases, and the listed bubblers are those that made it into that top 130. Pink came in 31st and Biffy 32nd which actually meant Biffy were exactly midway of the 63 songs I actually had on it - originally 66 but 3 got eliminated.
Let's have a quick look at those that did make it: Lisa Mitchell has had her name appear on this before - but only as a bubbler and that on the first chart of the new year, usually a bad time for releases. She is similar to Olivia Newton John in that she was born in the UK then moved to Australia when she was very young. Her music is completely different though, more like Regina Spektor. She even went in for Australian Idol in 2006 (do they really have to have that?). She came 6th. (Robert Allen came 6th in the UK one that year. I don't even remember him). Chico had performed one original song on the X-Factor in 2005, Lisa Mitchell performed 2 in Australian Idol (and probably a lot lot better than It's Chico Time). She actually got eliminated after singing a Veronicas song.
Close behind is another Australian duetting with a Brit - Daniel Merriweather and Adele - so it's been a good week for the Aussies. It was actually a close call at the top and of course the one that enters highest isn't guaranteed to be the one who does best as we found out with Polly Scattergood earlier in the year twice - Other Too Endless was not the highest new entry on its week (Take That actually were) but got to #1, whilst Please Don't Touch entered as the highest entry on its week but a single that entered lower (Oxymoron by 11:59) beat it to #1. Water And A Flame really is a good song, albeit rather sad, and I'm rather surprised not to see it in the UK chart.
3rd highest new entry - Orianthi - is also Australian. So the top 3 entries this week are all by Australian or part-Australian acts! By the way, 11:59 are also Australian. Punchline this week drops out of the top 10 to #11 having peaked at #2. It has peaked a position higher than Please Don't Touch did, the significance being who will get the best 2nd placed hit in the chart of the year. Mika has also had two top 3 hits this year.

Found it its on a compilation called 'Songs From The Point!', Its a Harry Nilsson covers album, dont think Nada Surf is a single but if it is can you tell where you found out?
Oh BTW My chart has a bubblers list of around 50 songs and I only publish the top 20. I could do a top 100 easy, nobody but me needs to know these as what is the value in it,absolutely nothing. tbh there isnt much value below the Top 20 main chart for most readers.

Lots of good songs have been in your top 10 this month! Wallis Bird, Muse, Green Day, Slow Club and Kabeedies have all been in my top 10 too, with all but Green Day in my top 5. I also like 'Coin Laundry', your HN this week, but it was just outside my top 30 this week (haven't posted that chart yet)
Bang! is a decent song, and has been unlucky not to be higher in my chart, but I'm not keen on 'Last Dance'.
Also - Alphabet Backwards had a single?? I saw them at Truck this year, enjoyed them very much!

Last Dance is really just "tagging on", I never play it, I always play Bang!. Similarly I never played Who Broke Susan Boyle once the single entered my chart, nor Wild Blue Milk (Slow Club). Only Mika's #1 from earlier in this year did I actually play more than one of the songs regularly. I also played both Regina Spektor songs Laughing With / Blue Lips and also Boy Least Likely To a lot earlier this year with Every Goliath Has His David and Balloon On A Broken String.
Alphabeat Backwards had 80s Pop Video listed, it was out the same week as Aqua's Back To The 80s, which was confusing. Both feature male and female vocals too but the comparisons really end there. Alphabeat Backwards are more in the style of Kabeedies / Slow Club / Los Campesinos etc.

I find the competition for places is enough already without allowing an artist normally to have two of them. More of a dilemma now as I only got one of the Jarvis Cocker tracks last week and got the other one this week, so if the first one enters I have to decide what to do with the second one next week.
Also got two tracks in consecutive weeks to a band I've never heard of before called Below-Fi, The Same Side (2 November playlist) and Everything Is Everything (9 November playlist).
Last year I charted two different Oasis songs in different weeks - Falling Down a fair bit ahead of time. I charted the current Black Eyed Peas single earlier in the year too. Sometimes they are digitally available earlier than their official release.
