Weren't the mid-80s awful for rock fans. Great for pop music, but truly atrocious for anyone who liked music with even a slightly harder edge.

Whilst they were good at the time, a lot of the house music that charted really has dated badly. And I thought we weren’t allowed to vote with a zero? In any case I’ve adjusted my votes to include a few 0s.

No rock singles at #1 (ok, Starship if you count them) but Bon Jovi were just getting going here and Whitesnake also made a comeback in 1987. We also got The Beastie Boys.
1988 saw the arrival of Guns N Roses and the triumphant return of Iron Maiden with a top 3 hit (possibly their most commercial ever).
