I think the point suedehead is making here is Anne's personality and demeanour doesn't fit with the Countdown traditional vibe.
As Suedehead said - it's a cosy daytime game show. No gimmicks, no flashy lighting, no tension music other than the clock and definitely no strong personalities, which Anne is trying to be.
Her persona from the Weakest Link is clearly still there and she tries to be the star of the show and be all about her.
Her engagement with the contestants isn't offensive as such, it's not racist either. Admittedly there is some gender bias. It's just plain cringeworthy which includes stupid follow up questions and the sarcastic responses she gives when the contestants say how many they got.
Follow up questions like: -
"How long have you been with your wife?" "30 odd years"
"Oh... is she not sick of you yet?"
One from this week "Do you come over to England often?" (contestant is from Ireland) "Yeah I come over to record shops a few times a year to see if there are good records to buy" "Oh...don't they have record shops over in Ireland?"
I'm sure there are many more but as said previously, most of the time I'm out of the room or muted the TV

Not a word was said today about it being Robinson's last episode. Either she didn't want any sort of fuss or her departure was very sudden.

Managed to catch up on today's episode and was expecting a farewell segment but it felt like a normal episode. I wouldn't have known it was her final episode if the announcer yesterday didn't say anything.
I don't believe it's either option to some extent. IIRC the last octochamp (or might be the hippy like person who was 1 shy of being an octochamp) she said to them she won't be seeing them in the series final. So if I heard correctly, it was obvious she was leaving and was not going to host the series final.
I wonder if the producers were trying to persuade her to stay to host a last batch of shows before Anne spoilt their plans and made the whole spiel about only contracting to host for a year.
Be interesting if there are tributes paid by Colin and Rachel to Anne in tomorrow's show.

And the mute button was not pressed even once today!
Not even a mention or a thank you in the intro today for Anne, which supports the theory that she left abruptly and on bad terms.
Anyway it's good to see the show flowing as it should today, although I hope Colin can curb his enthusiasm over time as he got slightly patronising in some rounds.

So colin murray is only temporary. Just give him the job permanently.

Maybe he doesn't want to do it permanently

Where does he host his BBC radio 5 late night show? Presume it's in London as with the other BBC radio shows.
If so, presume that is the main stumbling block for him to take the job permanently.

Radio 5 is based in Salford.

And even then - it's only for 1.5 weeks between 4th Aug to 15th Aug

According to something I read elsewhere, Colin Murray had Covid so Les Dennis stepped in at short notice. That doesn't count as a full-time host in my book.

Not a bad presenting debut from Les today given the circumstances he was put under and the fact he was meant to be a guest at Dictionary Corner.

Agreed. He wasn't as good as Colin Murray but good on him for agreeing to do it at short notice.

Not a bad presenting debut from Les today given the circumstances he was put under and the fact he was meant to be a guest at Dictionary Corner. Does this mean there's a parallel universe somewhere where Giles Brandreth was booked that week and *he* had to step in? My blood has just run cold!

Could be worse...could have had Anne Robinson back in the chair...
Speaking of Gyles, I haven't seen him on the show in yonks. Suppose Covid and lockdowns have played a part for him not to appear.

One of those rare occasions today when I got a numbers game before Rachel. She got it eventually but using a different method from mine.

Good job by Les - solid job manning the host seat.
Jenny Eclair next hosting from tomorrow with Janet Street Porter as guest in Dictionary Corner. Could be potential to be an annoying week.
