72 Rage Against The Machine - Wake Up ( 1992 , Rage Against The Machine )
"I think I heard a shot"
At least the second song from the Matrix soundtrack to make it into this rundown.

71 Michael Jackson - Black Or White ( 1991 , Dangerous )
The third early-90s track in a row, and Jacko's only entry in this chart, although if I ever did an 80s chart, he'd doubtless feature. He made some epic music videos, too - this is actually the shortened version, featuring Macaulay Culkin.

70 Blink 182 - Dammit ( 1997 , Dude Ranch )
"Well I guess this is growing up"
Bilnk 182 really came to prominence with their third album - this is from their second, and another song that I discovered thanks to guitar hero.

69 Pulp - Disco 2000 ( 1995 , Different Class )
"Won't it be strange when we are fully grown- be there two o'clock by the fountain down the road"
From a band with a number, to a track with a number, and a great one for jumping about to with mates at a club.

68 Republica - Drop Dead Gorgeous ( 1996 , Republica )
This two-hit-wonder band actually played in my village a few years back - normally we only get local acts and cover bands.
A bit of a guilty pleasure this one; I initially had it somewhere outside the top 100, but as I ranked tranches of the songs, the catchy shoutiness of this one kept being at or near the top of the list, eventually settling here.

67 Faithless - Insomnia ( 1996 , Reverence / Irreverence )
The undisputed kings of 90s club music. This song features possibly the best drop of any dance song.

66 Foo Fighters - Learn To Fly ( 1999 , There Is Nothing Left To Lose )
Possibly the best music video of the 90s, featuring Tenacious D and a bunch of shenanigans on a plane.

65 Supergrass - Sun Hits The Sky ( 1997 , In It For The money )
More upbeat goodness from the band who were the second band I ever saw live (following on from Ash, who supported them).

64 Radiohead - Bones ( 1995 , The Bends )
"I used to fly like Peter Pan, all the children flew when I touched their hands"
Another outstanding Radiohead album track. The Bends is undoubtedly in the top 5 albums of the 90s.

62 Baddiel, Skinner + The Lightning Seeds - Three Lions ( 1996 , Three Lions )
"I know that was then but it could be again..."
While I watched a few games of the preceding world cup, Euro 96 was the first tournament I was properly into, and this song was at the heart of it. Every few years, we come back to this song and hope again...

61 Radiohead - Street Spirit (Fade Out) ( 1995 , The Bends )
Yet another song from the Bends, this time a haunting single with an appropriately haunting video. Amazing closing track, although there are actually a few more closing tracks (not from Radiohead) still to come...

60 Massive Attack - Teardrop ( 1998 , Mezzanine )
"Fearless on my breath"
Gorgeous, relaxing track that was once as high as #6 in my all-time list.

And now for something completely different: 59 Rage Against The Machine - Killing In The Name ( 1992 , Rage Against The Machine )"F*** you, I won't do what you tell me" The highest-place RATM song, and also the highest placed Christmas #1 Has there been a greater expression of sweary defiance?

58 Green Day - Welcome To Paradise ( 1994 , Dookie )
"I want to take you through a wasteland I like to call my home"
In which Billie Joe tells his mother about his experiences living in an abandoned house in California.

Another contender for best video of the 90s - the sad story of a lost milk carton...

56 Underworld - Born Slippy (Nuxx) ( 1995 , Born Slippy (Nuxx) [Radio Edit] )"shouting lager lager lager"
The peak of techno, and so, so appropriate for Trainspotting.

This song gave rise to one of the best examples of the literal video version trend of the noughties:

53 Dario G - Carnaval de Paris ( 1998 , Carnaval de Paris )
One of the most globally recognisable football tunes; the first version, made for the 1998 world cup in France, featured instruments from all 32 competing countries. In the video, the appearance of each country's instrument is marked by fans painted in that country's flag.
