So what do we think of this band that have come from nowhere and are set to have the biggest hit of the year.
I really like the single 'How to Save a Life' - yes it's a bit Dawson Creekish but it's really quite beautiful, especially the piano, and the topic matter is certainly deeper than most top 10 hits. And nice to see the Yanks copying us for a change by trying to be the new Coldplay.
Anyone got the album, any good?

The song is the worst so far this year. So dull and boring, it's almost as if it doesn't exist.

I loved this song even before it hit the airwaves here

They are dull and rather bland. Can't see them going much beyond 1 or 2 singles in the UK.

they're like the latest version of the calling - bland, MOR emo-pop. their songs are inoffensive enough, and i don't mind the new single or "over my head" (better imo), but as people have said they are a bit on the dull side. looking like they could do very well, though...

this might be one for the classical forum, but does anyone know the name of the piano piece they use? been driving me mad, trying to remember!

Thought I was the only one who found "How to save a life" rather boring! These kind of songs are always like that for me, either they're amazing to me, or like this one they're ok but nothing special.. I'm still waiting for it to hit me. One thing's for sure it will be No 1 and maybe for quite a while, didnt expect it to be as high as this so soon.

Same goes with Ruby actually, as the download market changes much more quickly, it's difficult to predict where songs will eventually peak. I do hope that JK or Joke is proved wrong about their unusally confident predicition that "this would be the bestseller of the year", as we seem to hear every week I like the song a lot, but I'm a sucker for these kind of songs anyway

I'm surprised this song is such a big hit in the UK! This kind of lite-rock has been a staple of US radio over the last 10+ years but rarely does anything in the UK. So I'm quite surprised to see this taking off.
I agree with MK, "Over My Head" is sure to be the second single. That was their debut US hit.

As greend says, it sounds just like the Calling - wherever you will go, surprised so many like it, not a fan at all, but I do like surprise hits as well.

I find the singer's voice slightly annoying. He sounds like he's trying his best not to sing properly!

It's far better than the Calling I think - the piano is lovely and it's got more emotion to it.

They're far worse than The Calling who are themselves one of the worst bands of the decade!

I don't think this song sounds like the Calling, their singer had a rougher-sounding voice. Speaking of the Calling I think they sound exactly like Lifehouse (who may not be known here, they only charted one single in the UK). There are so many sound-a-like US rock bands.
But I don't like this Fray song either. This type of "sensitive bloke" ballad usually doesn't go over well with me anyway...

I actually loved Lifehouse's 'Hanging by a Moment' - that should have done much better than it did over here, it had an amazing tune.
The band I loathe with a passion of this ilk has to be Nickelback - pure evil.

aren't lifehouse a christian group? the genre tends to overlap quite heavily with this sort of music, i find...
"hanging by a moment" is the best song so far mentioned in this thread, but i still never got that excited about it.
