Well that's pretty much Chris. He's in his 40s and a house-husband...

Westlife did do original songs originally, for example Flying Without Wings was original in that it was written for them, if not by them, and you have to accept that there are people who like that sort of thing, even young people. When I was a certain age I would probably have liked that too. And very few would have known the original of "The Rose" by Bette Midler so in many ways it was good that they brought it back to make it famous.
And my wife isn't particularly fond of Westlife although I don't think she hates them either.

As an Elvis fan since 1956 I cannot get enough of the man. The more releases the better in my opinion as they remind people of his importance and longevity.

Radio 1 would be top of my list! Getting worse minute by minute. Now that they've f**ked up the Top 40 I'm really mad. The people that they employ there don't really have an interest in music at all, just in forwarding their own careers and making ridiculous sums of money. Ok, Zane Lowe is a huge exception, but the REAL music fans are over on 6Music playing new, interesting and diverse music that they love. I want to burn the bloody station down. Who's with me?

it's typical that a supposed indie fans slags off indie bands that produce real music above all else and then wonders why manufactured pop is still ruling the way...
the worst thing about 2007 musically was all the great lost music like Slow Club - Me And You.

For me, the second-worst thing about music in 2007 is all the bitching. In previous years it hasn't been so bad, but this year especially, there's been more "waaa waaa my favourite song/album/act didn't do well" than I ever remember before.
With the introduction of downloads counting towards the charts, and the previous success of bands like Arctic Monkeys who had a high profile but very low cost word-of-mouth internet advertisement campaign, the door was well and truely open for a whole host of bands to follow in their footsteps. It is less of a deal now if you don't get playlisted at big radio stations, it's less of a deal if shops don't stock your physical, you just have to put the work in promoting your songs over the internet in as many places as possible, which in most cases comes at a very small cost. If it's a good piece of work, it will get heard, and it will get purchased.
The worst thing about 2007 is that so many bands, who could have put the work in and had hits, didn't. And they have no-one to blame but themselves for not getting the promotion right.

But they aren't indie bands though. And I'd rather listen toANYONE (ok, maybe not Nickelback or Soulja Boy) than Scouting For Girls. Dull, annoying, unimaginitive, repetitive rubbish.

RIAA deserve to be on this list.. but it's more in the US obv... I heard they tried to sue somebody for ripping from a CD which they'd bought, onto a computer. Somebody burn that place down as well please.

10 More Elvis Re-issuesBut worst of all... 01 Commercial Indie-PopMainly Orson, The Hoosiers, Maroon 5 and Scouting For Girls. All absolutely dreadful bands yet for some unknown reason people seem to like this repetitive, rip-off nonsence. There's nothing wrong with indie bands making pop songs. The Shins and Rilo Kiley have done it brilliantly this year but these are just appaling. Completely unoriginal and not one redeaming feature. Anyone could have wrtitten 'She's So Lovely'. I couldn't agree more with this point, definitely the lowest point of the year when bands like these become succesful. It only encourages them

I think the worst thing about music is that it was the year when really i stopped caring about it. I don't listen to the chart that often (well apart from December), only bought half a dozen albums throughout the year (and for someone who used to buy several albums a month thats saying something), and hardly ever listen to the radio anymore. I listen to Radio 1 for Moyles, but thats it and i'm not really that fussed whether i listen to his show anymore either.
Of the points mentioned in the original post i agree with a lot of it except for...
Cascada - Whilst their recent singles haven't been good they haven't been that bad, and i like Everytime We Touch (though thats more for the remixes than anything else).
Indie-Pop - Really surprised at this, and so high on your list too, I'm with Earl. The Hoosiers are one of the most likeable indie bands, and although Scouting For Girls can be considered rather boring and irritating they're not that bad. But then not many indie bands impressed me in 2007.
Didn't realise the Soulja Boy song was about that, but then i'd never bothered to listen to the lyrics before as the song is so bad

Good points and well expressed - personally I'm a fan of the Fray so don't agree with that. And the Hoosiers are fine.
