Bloody hell, I've just read this! I don't think that move will do Fernando's career any harm at all, McLaren being my favourite team and everything.

There's something going on behind the scenes here. In McLaren I think Ron knows one of his drivers is going elsewhere for 2007 - probably Kimi to Ferrari. JPM isn't contracted to McLaren for 07 - maybe he will be moving - to Toyota perhaps? If neither of them are moving, surely Ron is going to get rid of Montoya, after being very critical of him all season. It's a great position McLaren are in, theoretically having the option of 3 of the 4 or 5 most talented drivers in F1 Alonso has said he is looking for a new challenge with another team (nice dig on Schumacher there ). That's all fair enough, but does this suggest that Renault might quit F1? Alonso's departure is good news for Fisi, and maybe Webber. Almost certainly Kovalainen will be in the other Renault in 2007. Te other (less exciting) news today is that Polish driver Robert Kubica has been signed up as BMW Sauber's test driver. The significance of this is that they probably rejected Pizzonia in favour of Kubica...

Kimi cannot go to Ferrari! I'm not letting it happen!

If Kimi hasn't signed for Ferrari, surely the Vodafone sponsorship and Alonso as a teammate may persuade him to stay
More McLaren news today, Briton Gary Paffett, DTM champion, has signed up to be an official McLaren test driver for next season alongside de la Rosa. That more or less means that Wurz is out of the team, as McLaren will surely not need 3 test drivers

I agree with you, I reckon Montoya, or Alonso, would be more suited for Ferrari than Kimi. But I reckon McLaren is the team for Heidfeld, but looks like that will never happen now Super Aguri apparently have consent from all teams now to be on the grid for Bahrain. Sato will almost certainly get the no 1 seat, Davidson has done a lot of work with Honda lately, will he test for them for another year or will he go straight into an uncompetitive team?

Williams have surprisingly signed Alex Wurz as their third driver for next season. Rumours suggested he was set to sign a race deal with BMW Sauber but he was too tall to fit in the car. Rumours also suggest that Wurz could be placed at Williams so he could get a race drive for them next season, as Webber's contract expires at the end of the year, and maybe Flavio his manager might want Webber at Renault alongside Kovalainen.
With Super Aguri set to be confirmed as the 11th team on the grid, Sato will almost certainly drive for them. Japanese drivers Yoshimoto, Ide and Matsuura have all been mentioned and will all bring money to the team, as will Kathikeyan if he chooses not to accept a test drive spot for Williams. They have said that when they get their proper car together (by Imola or Europe at the latest apparently), they would want Davidson heavily involved with the team, so it is likely he will drive from then

Thats if they are going to use the old Arrows chassis

Davidson will continue as a 3rd driver for the Honda team so with that, its more likely there could be 2 Japanese drivers on the grid.
BTW, should be now be making an F1 2006 Thread now?

Yeah we probably should actually
I think Davidson knows how bad Super Aguri will be next season, and while he may beat Sato, he won't look as impressive for a 2007 seat as he would test driving what is sure to be a quick car next season.
Interesting rumours are floating about that Michael could join Ralf at Toyota in 2007, not sure I'm convinced about that though. In any case, I don't think Jarno will be a Toyota driver in 2007
And McLaren are testing in a lurid orange livery, before their official new livery is unveiled at their launch next month
