Thought I'd start a thread on this. It is the 'level below' Formula 1 for motor racing. What is great about it is that all the cars have the same specifications.
There are 2 races at each venue - a feature race on Saturday and a sprint race on Sunday. The grid for the sprint race is decided by Saturday result with top 8 being reversed, so driver who finished 8th on Saturday will start from pole position and winner will start from 8th place.
The points are awarded as follows: Pole for Saturday races: 2 points Saturday races: 10-8-6-5-4-3-2-1 points for top 8 finishers Sunday races: 6-5-4-3-2-1 points for top 6 finishers Fastest lap: 1 point in each race. Driver recording fastest lap has to drive 90% of race laps.

I caught it in Valencia last week, and I liked it a lot. Carroll loks very reckless, Hamilton justified the praise he is getting with two great drives - he needs to work on his starts though

Eurosport show the races on the day (mostly live, or at least on the day). Well into GP2, just finished re-watching last years on DVD. Adam Carroll was actually pretty solid last year, but he was very scrappy in Valencia. Scary accident too!
Lewis Hamilton seemed to live up to the hype, he was VERY quick, and not afraid to overtake- whereas Carroll was stuck in traffic for lap after lap, Hamilton just caught up and muscled through. Very impressive, and a good shout for the title- surely he will be in F1 next year, if the Mclaren B team gets the go ahead that could be where he ends up.
Piquet wasnt much cop last year to be honest, but he seems to have raised his game, and his stint in A1 has given him confidence. Premat was mighty in A1, and wasnt quite up to speed at the mo.
ITV usually show brief highlights the week after the race, as they did today with Valencia at 11.40am, usually repeated on M&M in the evening.

It's disappointing how little coverage it is getting I must say. It is the closest series to F1 right now, but it doesn't seem to have got the attention F3000 had back in the day.
Carroll's incident was scary, but totally his own fault. He reminds me a lot of Irvine in that sometimes he's right on it, other times he's very careless.
I don't like the way that the qualifying for the sprint race is the top 8 of the feature race reversed. It handed Ammermuller the win last week

Yeah, that system gifted Olivier Pla 2 wins last year when he really is nowhere near a winning driver. I think the coverage is better than F3000, terrestial coverage is a good thing, even if it is brief highlights, and ITV now putting the F1 staff to work on the programme is a good thing and should attract some F1 fans.

A good race in Imola today. Bruni never looked that good in a Minardi . I see Hamilton got black flagged though. I must say that the Eurosport commentators are hilarious - one of them hasn't a clue and spent most of today's race bitching about focusing on Bruni rather than the battles through the field. They take forever to recognise which cars have gone off and stuff What's great about GP2 from a viewer perspective is that the cars look very twitchy in the first place, add in some not so skilled drivers equals lots of race incidents!

I've always thought this to be an interesting formula, i got to watch alot of Liuzzi and Speed (now driving in F1 for Torro Rosso) and also Rosberg Jr and Renault's test driver Heikki Kovalianen

Hamilton really redeemed himself at the Nurburgring. In the first race he was exceptional - he got a drive through penalty, came out just behind Premat, overtook him easily as sauntered off to a dominant win. Very impressive in the sprint race too.
Ron Dennis is now saying that if he continues like this he may just make the jump up to McLaren next season

From what I hear Hamilton was excellent, Ill have to catch the highlights at the weekend. The GP2 racing seems to be better than the F1 parade at the moment!

Great race in Spain today. Hamilton was slow off the line and Piquet pulled away in front. Hamilton came into the pits early and put in some super laps to rejoin just behind Piquet after his stop. After Piquet had a drive through for speeding in the pitlane it looked like an easy win for Lewis, but Premat was closing. Probably bitter after how Premat outclassed him at the Nurburgring, he went for an ambitious pass on the last lap and unclassily spun Hamilton 360 degrees. Thankfully he went on to finish second behind his teammate

Hamilton wins again in Monaco! He wasn't quite as dominant as in the Nurburgring, or as quick as Spain but he got the job done. Perrera second, Premat 3rd. Piquet Jnr scored nothing, so Hamilton has a 10 point lead
Rumours are saying that McLaren don't need JPM next season, it's looking good for Hamilton to replace him

Hamilton's doing well, but it does annoy me how after he's won a few races the british media are desperate to put him in an F1 car

Hamilton's doing well, but it does annoy me how after he's won a few races the british media are desperate to put him in an F1 car I agree. There is a lot of talent there, and I genuinely think he is a better British prospect than Button, but he has a lot to learn. He's only now consistently getting good starts and things like that so he's not ready for a McLaren seat next year. I reckon they will keep JPM on another year, although it has been rumoured that de la Rosa and Hamilton would share the second seat next season Jani will replace Arden's Lapierre for Britain and British driver Martin Conway replaces Pla in the DPR. It would be nice to see Jani impress as he's not been given the chance to do that testing the Toro Rosso
