No European grand prix Would I be right in thinking that they just introduced that around 1990, before which time they had East German and West German races?

I've only been into F1 for a relatively short period of time so I'm not really sure. Nurburgring was always a crappy circuit in my opinion so it's no great loss for me.

The 2007 GP will be held at the Nurburgring, Hockenheim is dropped for 2007. The circuits will alternate as the host of the German GP until 2010. It's a nice system, I'd like to see Japan, Spain and Italy do that in the future.
The European GP has been around since 1983 held at Brands Hatch, Donington, Jerez and Nurburgring. To be honest, it is generally held in European countries that Bernie thinks should have a 2nd race for commercial or political reasons. For instance, Germany has had 2 races in recent years because of Schumacher, Mercedes and BMW. The European GP has also been used as a replacement for circuits where races where scheduled but couldn't go ahead. For example in 1997 Jerez was used instead of Estoril (which was deemed unsafe) and in 1993 Donington was used in place of an Asian race (which wasn't ready).

I think they'll be 8th It's just that Red Bull and Toyota have supposedly made big improvements and I can't see them ahead of BMW with Kubica and Heidfeld...

If Toro Rosso can use an Adrian Newey designed car, and if Super Aguri can use a Honda, Williams could even be 10th. I don't see Williams making any improvement - they have the worst engine in the pitlane, they will get no help from Toyota and they have an uninspiring driver lineup in Rosberg, Wurz, Karthikeyan, Nakijima
Speculation is hotting up over the Toro Rosso seat. Speed has said he has signed a contract, Liuzzi seems confident about staying. However, Berger has said that Speed and Liuzzi made major errors last year, and focused more on Red Bull's party image than racing. Ernesto Viso (GP2 driver) has now said he has signed a contract with the team and will drive a couple of races. The Bourdais rumours will not go away, Monteiro and Doornbos are also possibly in the frame

Yes, it is rather horrible. I think the main problem is that band of yellow in the centre of the car just doesn't suit the ING colours like they suited the Mild Seven livery.
Still, it isn't as bad as Toro Rosso's awful livery last season

Interesting story...
Super Aguri have insisted they have a valid contract with test and reserve driver Giedo van der Garde after the Dutchman was announced as a tester for the rival Spyker team on Thursday.
Van der Garde was confirmed in Super Aguri’s driver line-up last December and made his test debut with the team at Jerez on Wednesday. However, after completing just four laps with the Japanese squad, he is understood to have signed a Spyker contract in the early hours of Thursday morning.
Outlining their position on the matter, Super Aguri have issued the following statement: "Super Aguri F1 Team has a valid contract with Giedo van der Garde to drive for the team in the position of Friday and Test Driver for the 2007 FIA Formula One™ World Championship. The contract was submitted by the SAF1 Team to the Contracts Recognition Board on 23rd January 2007."

The van der Garde story is bizzare. Rumours suggest that van der Garde wasn't happy with the direction the team and his role in the team was going. I would guess that maybe he wasn't going to get running on the Friday of Grand Prix weekends with Super Aguri, whereas the Spyker deal will see him share Friday running with Fauzy and the race drivers.
Following the announcement at the end of last year that Korea will get a GP in 2010, Abu Dhabi has been confirmed as the venue of a Grand Prix in 2009. Rumours are suggesting that a night street race in Singapore may join the calendar next year, and India also in 2009. With Mexico, Romania, Russia and a 2nd US race rumoured, what will this mean for some of the classic European venues?

Today Toro Rosso have confirmed Liuzzi for 2007, but have not confirmed Speed citing contractual reasons and motivation. A bit of a curious one - I still reckon that STR are trying to get Seb Bourdais out of his Champ Car contract to replace Speed. Incidentally the new Toro Rosso car looks nearly identical to the Red Bull car. Williams and Spyker have threatened legal action against STR and Super Aguri if they field customer cars, so expect a lot of controversy about this in Australia.
McLaren continually look as though they have the strongest package in testing, although Ferrari ended today very strongly. Renault are not looking like the frontrunners they have been, but could be poised to nab the odd win and podiums. Massa, Alonso, and Berger have all commented that the BMW looks very strong, to the point of possibly scoring a first win in 2007. Williams have also made steps forward, and have been looking quicker than parent team Toyota. Honda and Red Bull have unanimously disappointed though.

I'm really glad for BMW. I've always loved Heidfeld and Kubica is exciting too! I do hope they can be top 4!

Massa has even said that BMW look like the team to beat from looking at the test results. You can't read too much into them admittedly, but I do hope they can carry it over into the races. They were brilliant last season.
