Despite Chris Gayle becoming the first player to score a century in a Twenty20 International, South Africa still managed to win by 8 wickets.

I managed to watch yesterdays game. It was a fantastic spectacle...Both teams were teeing of from ball one..
Just watching this mornings effort and Kenya have been blitzed out by NZ for 73...It was like men against juniors !!

New Zealand ended up winning that match by 9 wickets (Kenya's score is incidentally the lowest ever in a Twenty20 International).
The other result so far today is that Scotland failed to emulate Ireland - in that Pakistan beat them by 51 runs (Scotland did manage to take 9 Pakistani wickets however).

Great result for Zimbabwe, I think they needed that, especially after their plummet back to minnows in one day cricket!

It would be great if the Aussies went out in the first round...
The World Twenty20 is a good idea and could even replace the World Cup (or at least the Champions Trophy) in the future.
However, I'd like to see the ICC open it up for the other teams. There are a lot of countries around the world that play cricket and with Twenty20 games being less predictable I'd like to see them have around 24 teams in the tournament. It would be an ideal opportunity for the smaller teams to get international experience whilst also offering the possibility of some upsets.

England win by 50 runs!
Pietersen scored 79 off 37 balls. Mascarenhas took 3 for 18.
Zimbabwe did threaten England's total early on but collapsed after they lost their first wicket, falling from 74-0 to 89-5.

i had the cricinfo bar open at work all day today, we should have got many more runs, losing peterson signalled a collapse. And for the start of the innings i must admit i though zimbabwe would push us close.

Apparently England will still go through as long as Australia take more than 9.3 overs to reach their target.
22-0 after 3 overs...

Australia win by 8 wickets, with just over 5 overs to spare. Both teams go through, Zimbabwe are out.

Sri Lanka's thrashing of Kenya means Kenya are out and Sri Lanka and NZ are both through.
Interestingly, the draw for the next round is done by pre-tournament seedings rather than finishing positions in the first stage, so the final group games between SL vs NZ and SA v Bangladesh are totally pointless.
Groups for second stage:
Group E South Africa New Zealand England India / Scotland
Group F Australia Pakistan Bangladesh Sri Lanka

The England/South Africa game was a good bit closer than it looked at one point like it was going to be.

Poor performance by England though, sloppy fielding including two dropped catches and why was Mascarenhas batting so low down the order when we need his big hitting?
