But did he have an unfair advantage? By saying that, you are totally misunderstanding what Robin is saying, and totally misrepresenting how good Lewis Hamilton is. It's easy to say that he was in a top 2 car and you would expect him to win races. But his sheer speed and consistency had a double world champion on the ropes. He could have done that it any car and it would have been impressive. The fact he was in a competitve car doesn't explain his achievements, it made them more visible.

And going slightly off-topic, his time around the Top Gear test track on Sunday's show (recorded last week) was amazing. It was wet but he was only 2 tenths of a second behind Mansell (on a dry track), and only about half a second behind the Stig who knows the track like the back of his hand. He said he wants to come back and do it again in the dry, which would presumably be in the spring. Whether McLaren would give him the time off is debatable though.

If there was any doubt Hatton's defeat last night means Hamilton is a cast iron certainty for the award.
I think we're going to watch the Royal Variety Show anyway!

Yeah, Hamilton should win it now. I'd like to see Calzaghe win it though.
Still annoyed at Victoria Pendleton's omission.

Wow, that was a surprise but in the end the British public got it right.

Shocked by Calzaghe winning and Hatton only coming 3rd.
Generally a boring show, the highlight being the lifetime achievement award given to Sir Bobby Robson, touching the reception he got too. It was quite sad to see him struggling to the platform.

Glad Joe Calzaghe won. Hamilton's time will come. It was great to see Enzo Calzaghe's work recognised as well.
Roger Federer was a boring, predictable choice for the overseas award but there weren't too many other options.
Sir Bobby's speech was the highlight of the evening...

It was actually a reference to McLaren nicking info from Ferrari, and being fined millions, and losing their constructor points, but not their individual points. I think he has doen great, I do like to see drivers start lower though and work up, I think it was Damon Hill, I remember doing really well in some low down car in his 1st season.

Of the 3 nominated for overseas personailty of the year Roger would have been the last person I'd give it to. I think Harrington deserved it
Shocked at Hamilton only coming 2nd I really thought he had it in the bag.
Doesn't the NEC arena look loads bigger on the telly? lol I've been a few times and it looks half the size in reality than how the telly makes it lol

Well it's only recently they made it a shortlist of 10, rather than 5 or 6 and until a few years ago there was no vote on the night itself, it was decided purely on votes from Radio Times readers...
I suspect there was a mass vote from bike fans for Toseland. His piano playing probably gave him a boost as well.
Zara Phillips had a 33% share of the vote last year.
Joe Calzaghe is the first Welshman to win the award since David Broome in 1960 and the first boxer since Lennox Lewis in 1999.

The spy scandal will be something that will rumble on and on, and I'm still not sure how much McLaren really got from the Ferrari info. On a driver level though it is clear that Alonso and test driver de la Rosa knew about the Ferrari information and used it, whereas Hamilton didn't have a clue. Damon was in a dog of a Brabham when he entered F1 and failed to qualify for several races, then went straight into a race winning Williams, so I'm not sure who you're referring to there.

Never even heard of the winner - following Zara Phillips win last year I think Krazykriss may be in for a chance of next year's award.

It might have to be - there's no sports in the world left that we don't have an undisputed world champion apart from post whoring.
