I won't ruin this by coming in and giving all the songs 0 although I might give Love In The First Degree a couple of points. After the freshness and inspiration of the Supremes Bananarama are so bland and untalented it's almost criminal. (Ducks for cover!) Ah well, each to her own. You better! OK, they aren't the greatest singers. It comes to the fore on say the chorus of I want you back, although the rest of the song is ok.I think a good choice of songs, good production from Joley/Swain and Stock Aitken Waterman to name a few helped. And it looked like the girls had fun in the videos!I still play their songs all the time.Their 12" versions were the best imo!I heard a rumour and Cruel Summer are such perfect pop songs, few come close! SUPREMES?!WHO?

OK My Own Ratings because They're the best ever girlgroup and my all time favourite band nobody will beat them in my opinion. They were the first girlgroup of they're kind and if it wasn't for them we wouldn't have girl groups such as The Spice Girls, Sugababes, Girls Aloud, Atomic Kitten or All Saints, in a way each of these girl groups drew some sort of inspiration from Bananarama.
Aie A Mwana 5/10 It Ain't What You Do 7/10 Really Saying Something 7/10 Shy Boy 10/10 Cheers Then 6/10 Na Na Hey Hey (Kiss Him Goodbye) 8/10 Cruel Summer 10/10 Robert De Niro's Waiting 10/10 Rough Justice 10/10 Hot Line To Heaven 7/10 Do Not Disturb 6/10 Venus 10/10 More Than Physical 10/10 A Trick Of The Night 10/10 I Heard A Rumour 10/10 Love In The First Degree 10/10 I Can't Help It 10/10 I Want You Back 10/10 Love Truth And Honesty 7/10 Nathan Jones 7/10 Help 7/10 Only Your Love 10/10 Preacher Man 10/10 Long Train Running 7/10 Tripping On Your Love 7/10 Movin' On 8/10 Last Thing On My Mind 5/10 More More More 6/10 Move In My Direction 8/10 Look On The Floor (Hypnotic Tango) 8/10
They're best tracks = Shy Boy, Cruel Summer, Robert De Niro's Waiting, Rough Justice, Venus, More Than Physical, A Trick Of The Night, I Heard A Rumour, Love In The First Degree, I Can't Help It, I Want You Back, Only Your Love and Preacher Man.
My Least Faves are Aie A Mwana, a really rather unknown track that only Bananarama fans have really heard, still a good track but they've had so much better. Do Not Disturb an ok track but not the best lead single choice from True Confessions though and Last Thing On My Mind, well most people know the Steps version which is probably better, not one of my faves it seemed that Bananarama had stopped trying at this point because it's quite a boring track and they're voices don't sound very good on that track either.
All in all Bananarama are very much underrated and deserve more credibility and plus I really wish Siobhan would come back

Thanks for you comments, acidburn! Another awesome track that came from their 1991 album, is Aint no cure.If you dont have it do yourself a favour and go hunt it down.I t was first recored by a PWL group called Delage which had a minor Top 75 UK hit with Rock the boat circa 1990, but i think Bananrama did a better job with it, or should i rather say Stock Aitken Waterman did a grweat job with it! Oh yes, i loved Siobhan she was sooo sexy in the videos esp Venus and I heard a rumour.Rumour has it though she was VERY difficult to work with.

I know Bananarama but I don't KNOW them enough to rate every single release. So if you'll allow me to just list my faves (the 8/10s and above) ps: Not a fan of their early work or their most recent. My Nana time was Wow (borrowed my sister's copy) and Pop Life. Used to spend hours in my room playing with my toys with Wow in the background... and yes I was 11/12 haha. 10/10 I Heard A Rumour 10/10 Love In The First Degree 8/10 I Can't Help It 10/10 I Want You Back (gorgeous track - feelgood 80s)8/10 Love Truth And Honesty 9/10 Preacher Man (decent comeback)9/10 Long Train Running (my first and last Bananarama purchase)

I have all Of Bananarama's albums apart from Ultra Violet and Exotica which weren't released in this country and you're right "Ain't No Cure" is an awesome track and should have been a single I reckon it would have made a much better choice than "Tripping On Your Love" and also have you heard they're "Please Yourself" album even though it wasn't they're best album but the track on there "Is She Good To You" is really catchy and was planned as the 4th single release but because the album flopped and the other 3 singles didn't do very well it never got released which is a shame.

Although their best singles (the ones I love most) came from 'Wow',the album I listen to the most would actually be 'Please Yourself'.

Out of all the Banana's releases, it would be Wow I have listened to the most. I do have Please Yourself, but only ever skip through the singles and thats about it. The only track on Wow I didn't like is Strike It Rich, but it has I Heard A Rumour on it, which is one of my favourite Bananarama songs, possibly even SAW songs.

(9) 1991 Pop Life (5) 1993 Please Yourself (8) 1995 Ultra Violet (4) 2001 Exotica (3) 2005 Drama (6) Great idea rating the albums as well so here goes I haven't rated Ultra Violet and Exotica because I don't have them albums. 1983 Deep Sea Skiving 8/10 1984 Bananarama 8/10 1986 True Confessions 7/10 1987 WOW 10/10 1991 Pop Life 6/10 1993 Please Yourself 5/10 2005 Drama 8/10 WOW was definately my fave album of they'res because it has all they're best singles on there such as "I Heard A Rumour" and "Love In The First Degree", Some Girls and Bad For Me are stand outs as well. Deep Sea Skiving and Bananarama are equally great, True Confessions was underrated as was Pop Life which showed them taking on a whole new direction and it should have done better than it did, Please Yourself well was OK but kind of weak and was a step backwards in they're career and Drama cruelly overlooked, which should have at least made the Top 75, the singles "Move In My Direction" and "Look On The Floor (Hypnotic Tango)" were fresh and fantastic, plus there should have been more single releases, like "Lovebite" the original third single choice and plus other tracks on there such as Waterfall, Feel For You, Don't Step On My Groove and Middle Of Nowhere were all stand outs and any one of them could have been single releases.

For those who have any of the Bananarama back catalogue missing from their collection, they have reissued the first five albums with additional tracks and remixes, and they are in the current HMV sale!

Wow ! - 8 Pop Life - 4 Please Yourself - 9 Drama - 7
I went to HMV a few months ago hoping to pick up all the reissues in one go,but they only had 'Please Yourself' (which is my fav anyway) so I made do with that.I'll get around to picking up the others eventually.

Ive heard from various soureces that the "remastered" cds was done in a really tacky way, tracklistings incorrect and not really better sound than the originals, so i dont know.Ive bought a number of their tracks from the 12" collection though, great as the 12" of Trick of the night, Cruel summer (awesome "Digital" mix and I heard a rumour are on there. The 12" Garage mix of More than physical is terrible though, sounds like it was recorded there as well!

Not sure on the quality of them to be honest, but then I didn't pick any of them up. Please Yourself is the only one I haven't replaced on CD, and it wasn't there. I just thought a fiver each for them was cheap!

That's a great selection of songs, and a nice pic cover too. I'm forcing myself to stop buying things for completeness sake - I really don't have room on my cd shelves for another Bananarama collection (even if this is the best one) lol.
