What part of your job do you enjoy? What made you want to be a fireman? From what age?

Been a fireman must be very frightening, have you ever been in a position when it was life threatening for you.

What part of your job do you enjoy? What made you want to be a fireman? From what age? I enjoy going to incidents where I can help a member of the public. I used to want to be a pilot but my laziness at school put paid to that as I didn't get enough qualifications. It's a problem thats afflicted me most of my life. Because I was the best at pretty much every subject, especially the sciences and maths, I thought life was too easy. Anyway I then joined a bank and after a few years decided I did want to do a job with a little bit of action and variation so I applied for the fire service. I decided at 20 but didn't finally get in until 24.

We train very hard and have a lot of technical knowledge to take in. That all comes to the fore when we are doing the real thing.

Do you have a fave card game? I heard firemen play cards a lot!!!!! I used to like cribbage when I was younger. That's where you are completely devoid of reality Chris. I'm a Watch Manager at the busiest station in my brigade. I hardly have time to phone my girlfriend during the day let alone sit and have a game of cards

Ooh! I remember you Elmer! I remember you too Sim. Apologies for the other day btw. Hope we can put it behind us Of course, as fun as arguments can be, it's nicer when we all get along! The idiots round parts of South Yorkshire have had a shocking attitude towards the firemen of our region - calling hoaxes and then throwing rocks at them. Disgusting. Has anything like that ever happened to you or do you generally find the public are more grateful and positive towards you?

Has anything like that ever happened to you or do you generally find the public are more grateful and positive towards you? Well I'm from West Yorkshire as you probably know. I've had isolated incidents but fortunately not too bad. The worst of it is in Bradford and in areas of Halifax. In the main the public are very grateful and are positive towards us.

What was the last CD album you bought Elmer? It was the Essential Rory Gallagher album. It's a few months since I bought one that was in the charts.
