Gillingham won 1-0 at Rochdale today from what was, from what i heard of the 2nd half, a non-event. Gillingham rested players and Rochdale brought on their 35 year old assistant manager Flitcroft for most of the 2nd half! Apart from being utterly bewildered by the whole thing the commentators werent best pleased as having not played at all this season he made some poor tackles which could well have injured a Gillingham player, and going further in suggesting that it was unprofessional of Rochdale. They said the whole thing had a "testimonial" feel to it, which even stretched to the ref being unwilling to get cards out! Of course you can guess who Gillingham have got in the playoffs now! Also a word for Scott Davies who scored his 14th goal of the season today on loan from us for Aldershot

We are poor, lack of investment off the pitch, no youth team, no reserve team, weak management, need I say more! Hmmm... My brother who plays for Arnold Town U16s played the U16s of Notts county last month...

So the Rochdale tactic was to put out a team of players that were never going to play in the playoffs anyway, and then go out and injure the top Gills players in preparation for the playoff games?

Well the Gills rested players too by the sounds of it, but that thought did cross my mind. There were still enough players that could be involved in the playoffs and they actually took their goalscorer off at half-time. I think it was more to do with Rochdale making sure that Gillingham didnt learn anything about them before the playoff games, though.

Congratulations to Paul Tisdale and Exeter City FC who secured automatic promotion with a 1-0 win against Rotherham and a second successive promotion. Next season they will be playing at Southampton, Norwich City and possibly Leeds, amongst others. What a result considering they were outside the league only 4 seasons ago!!

That FA Cup tie against Manchester United certainly helped them. They made about a million from that tie, which went to a replay after they drew 0-0 at Old Trafford.

I think most of that money left the club... They were in dire financial straits fairly recently, hopefully they are on a sound financial grounding now, and can kick on, survival is key for them.
