I like a bit of Bon Jovi but only have Crossroads - Best Of. Aren't they releasing a more complete Greatest Hits this Autumn?

The same here.
Yes, Greatest Hits - The Ultimate Collection will be a double disc, 28 song collection out Nov 9th - probably after another appearance on The X-Factor.

Great. I'll probably buy that then. I've never liked them enough to buy a studio album but they've had some good songs as singles.

From Los Angeles Examiner. Bon Jovi GREATEST HITS will be a 16-song single disc chock full of the band’s biggest chart-toppers including “Livin’ On A Prayer,” “Always,” “It’s My Life,” “Wanted Dead or Alive,” and “Who Says You Can’t Go Home.” Two new songs, including lead single “What Do You Got,” round out the tracklisting. “What Do You Got?” will hit radio airwaves globally at the end of August. Bon Jovi GREATEST HITS - THE ULTIMATE COLLECTION will be a 28-song two disc edition made up of the GREATEST HITS CD from the standard edition and a second disc featuring beloved fan favorites including “Bed of Roses,” “Blood on Blood,” “These Days,” and “Keep The Faith” plus the third and fourth new tracks created for this project. The four new songs (“The More Things Change,” “No Apologies,” “This Is Love, This Is Life” and the first single, “What Do You Got?”) were written specifically for inclusion in this compilation. The complete tracklistings for Bon Jovi GREATEST HITS and Bon Jovi GREATEST HITS - THE ULTIMATE COLLECTION will be unveiled exclusively at www.bonjovi.com.

Lots of hits still missed off and Disc 2 could have had more than just 12 tracks.

This is a topic about Bon Jovi, so the comment about Meat Loaf is off-topic here.
Bon Jovi though have just entered my chart.

Jim Steinman wrote most of the best songs for Meat Loaf and also wrote a lot of great songs for others. For me they remain classic rock even though the singer didn't write them (and everybody knew Steinman wrote them at the time), and I haven't stopped liking this music even though Jim Steinman later on in his career produced Take That (Never Forget) and co-wrote a song that was a big hit for Boyzone (No Matter What). I was personally rather disappointed with Whistle By The Wind but as with many songwriters who couldn't reproduce their best later on, it doesn't diminish his earlier work. Desmond Child was clearly a great songwriter even if not everything he wrote was great. Although these were all "co-writes" so you just wonder how much they all wrote. Plenty of the major rock bands of the time seemed to use him. (And actually, Nirvana covered songs by the Vaselines, as I discovered when I looked into that band's history further).

My post was mostly about Desmond Child and his role as co-songwriter of some early Bon Jovi hits. I brought in Jim Steinman as an example of how not every "rock" artist wrote their own music.
The post that bumped this was simply about a new release by Meat Loaf.

well they obviously read the whole thread and as meat loaf and jim steinmen were being discussed decided to give an opinion on something already discussed, I mean there hasn't been a Bon Jovi post in here for 6 year so not exactly bouncing with Bon Jovi posts

The worst thing about this thread is cringing at the over earnest 9th rate Charlie Brooker wannabe poster attacking Jon Bon Jovi's Chinese Democracy (since he fired co founder Richie Sambora in 2014 (JBJ said he quit amicably; RS said he was fired with a pay off) .... and then realising that was my posts from 6 years ago.
