This is based on taking the different geographical regions of England (plus Wales) and awarding a regional championship to each region's highest placed League club at the end of the season.
I'm using the current specified regions and current county boundaries, so it's possible some clubs may have fallen into a different region in the past.

Interesting tables.
Southampton won the South East for 29 consecutive seasons from 1975/76-2003/04. Has any other club dominated their region for such a long, uninterrupted period ?

Great tables although I think I'd group Oxfordshire in with the West Midlands looking at the geography of the others.
The four other South-East teams are all in the same division now so will make for a great rivalry.

Great tables although I think I'd group Oxfordshire in with the West Midlands looking at the geography of the others. Valid point but Oxfordshire actually borders four different regions. As well as the South East and West Midlands, it also borders the South West and the East Midlands(!) so you could make a case for each of them. Officially though, under current regional boundaries, Oxfordshire is classed as part of the South East.

Interesting tables. Southampton won the South East for 29 consecutive seasons from 1975/76-2003/04. Has any other club dominated their region for such a long, uninterrupted period ? Cardiff also had a 29-season run going from 1951 to 1979. Portsmouth had a 28 season run, beginning in 1925 but it lasted 34 years due to the gap for World War II. Southampton's run would've been 44 seasons, had it not been for Oxford's sole win in 1975. Longest running champions in other regions: North West - Liverpool 14 seasons (1971-1984) North East - Sunderland 13 seasons (1891-1903) Yorkshire & Humber - Leeds 10 seasons (1965-1974) West Midlands - Wolves 9 seasons (1953-1961) (Aston Villa are currently on a run of 8 in a row) East Midlands - Nottingham Forest 19 seasons (1978-1996) East - Luton 16 seasons (1938-1960) London - Arsenal 14 seasons (1894-1907) (they were the only London club in the League for most of that time) South West - Bristol City 19 seasons (1902-1924) (see Arsenal)

^^ Thanks
In the early 80s, one of the football weeklies aimed at teenagers (it might have been Match, it wasn't Shoot) had a fantasy league made up of regional teams, whose results were calculated by a computer. London was split in two (North and South), Manchester and Merseyside were separated, and there was a Scottish team as well, from what I remember. I can't recall much about it, but do recollect arguing in the playground about whether they'd picked the right strikers for some of the teams (e.g. Bob Latchford and Kenny Dalglish, with Ian Rush on the bench).

It was Scoop magazine, published between 1979 and 1981. Teams included Birmingham United, Pool City, East England, Thames Southern, North London, and there were two in Scotland split west/east (in practice, Glasgow/Edinburgh, Dundee and Aberdeen). I have a complete run of Scoops somewhere, I'll dig out the whole line-up when I get home. It was a heck of a comic, mix of stories and real articles on all sports. Jon Stark (football mercenary - the footballer of the future), Ben Leiper the goalkeeping medic, Ben Norton the bionic athlete/spy, the Kamikaze Kid (speedway), Buster (tennis thug) and so on. Best was The Goalmaker, a player who had an uncanny resemblance to some stars of the past...

^^^ Thanks vas. I got Shoot, and my brother got Scoop. I spent ages putting together my own versions of Pool City, North London etc. Needless to say, the team from the South was always Southampton, with no space at all for Portsmouth players. I suspect Mark Lawrenson and Peter Ward might have squeezed in while they were playing for Brighton.

It was called the Inter City Superleague with players fed into the SuperScoop 2000 Sports Computer (which looks like one of those giant cabinets with a tape recorder and some writing on it), and the teams were as follows...
Thames Southern (orange) - West Ham, Chelsea, QPR, Palace, Fulham, Millwall, Charlton, Orient, Wimbledon, Brentford, Reading, Gillingham
North London (dark blue) - Arsenal, Spurs, Luton, Watford, Southend
Southcoast City (maroon) - Bristol City & Rovers, Southampton, Portsmouth, Exeter, Colchester, Swindon, Aldershot, Torquay, Plymouth, Brighton, Bournemouth, Cardiff, Swansea
East England (red & white stripes) - Ipswich, Norwich, Coventry (!), Leicester, Oxford, Peterborough, Northampton, Cambridge
Birmingham Utd (green) - Blues, Albion, Wolves, Shrewsbury, Walsall, Newport (!), Hereford and Villa
Midlands Select (claret) - Forest & County, Derby, Stoke, the Sheffields, Rotherham, Lincoln, Mansfield, Port Vale
Manchester Town (orange) - Man U/C, Oldham, Stockport
Pool City (red) - Liverpool, Everton, Tranmere, Wrexham, Southport, Crewe, Chester
Leeds District (white) - Leeds, Bolton, Blackpool, Burnley, Hull, Doncaster, Blackburn, Huddersfield, Preston, Barnsley, Bradford, Scunny, Bury, Rochdale, Halifax, York, Grimsby
Northern Town (blue) - Newcastle Sunderland, Boro, Carlisle, Darlo, Hartlepool
Glasgow Wanderers (blue, white & green hoops) - everyone in Scotland who wasn't...
Eastern Town (red) - Aberdeen, the Dundees, Hibs, Hearts, Arbroath, Montrose, St Johnstone, East Fife, Raith, Dunfermline, Berwick, Meadowbank, Cowdenbeath, Brechin & Forfar
After 33 games (you can tell Scoop was a Scottish publication), the positions were as follows:
1. Manchester Town (46), 2. Pool City (45), 3. Glasgow (45), 4. Birmingham (43), 5 Midlands (37), 6. Leeds (29), 7. Eastern (29), 8. North London (28), 9. Southcoast (27), 10. Thames (26), 13. East England (24) and 12. Northern (17).
The title was decided on the last day when Manchester beat Leeds 2-0 and Glasgow lost for the only time at home to Pool 2-1, thanks to a last-minute Jimmy Case winner from an Andy King pass. Birmingham's challenge collapsed when Trevor Francis was sold to Midlands for £1m.
Pool City won the Supercup and North London the League Cup. Top scorer was Glasgow's Derek Johnstone with 22. And Player of the Year was John Blackley of Northern...

NORTH EAST Newcastle United (50th title, 2nd in a row)
YORKSHIRE & HUMBER Hull City (5th title, 2nd in a row)
WEST MIDLANDS West Bromwich Albion (13th title, 2nd in a row)

SOUTH WEST Bristol City (48th title, 6th in a row)
SOUTH EAST Southampton (48th title, first since 2004)
WALES Swansea City (24th title, 3rd in a row)
Next season: Hull are guaranteed the Yorkshire/Humber title as the only top flight club in the region. Southampton are guaranteed the South East title for the same reason. Norwich will be guaranteed the East title if Watford lose the Championship playoff final. Bristol City will lose their South West title following their relegation to League One and Bournemouth and Yeovil being promoted to the Championship. Bournemouth have only been the top South West club once, in 2001, while Yeovil never have been. The last first time winners of a region were Hull in 2008.

I think Bradford City came 2nd in their region in 1988 (behind Sheff Wed), and the two Premier years of 2000 and 2001 (both behind Leeds). Haven't won it since 1921 though, and Charlton haven't won the London region since 1939...
