Queens of the Stone Age - Go With The Flow Manics - Motorcycle Emptiness James - She's A Star White Stripes - 7 Nation Army Badly Drawn Boy - Disillusion Coldplay - Yellow
All of these songs have a monster guitar riff that I simply can't resist... The kind of song you just can't help but sing along with the guitar notes... Any favourites of yours please???

Cue pop fans to say the songs are not well known... Saying that, I dont know the BDB song at all. I quite like the bass in Black Rebel Motorcycle Club and Spread your love.

Guns N' Roses - Sweet Child Of Mine Surely one of the most recognisable guitar riffs of all time Very memorable guitar riff, if not the most memorable, was more glam rock/metal but i class all rock, indie, in the same category if its catchy and i love it. Anything by Tom Morello www.youtube.com/watch?v=GM5N5lC-FNgand Ash - Burn Baby Burn The Fratellis - Chelsea Dagger Andrew W.K - Party Hard

Ah yes, I neglected to notice the 'indie' part.

ironically over the years it has become pop, even shery crow and texas have covered it, its just catchy, always gets played in every indie club i go to and as indie crossed over into pop i guess all the lines are blurred anyway

personally the Pixies are the best at guitar riffs IMHO especially Debaser... I also like Nirvana's riffs but basically it's Kurt Cobain trying to copy the Pixies but of course Teen Spirit might be the best known guitar riff ever (alongside 7 Nation Army) I also like Radiohead's... Just, Paranoid Android... and not a big fan of some classic riffs like Smoke on the Water or Stairway to Heaven

for me from old style rock:
ACDC - whole lotta rosie Kinks - you really got me Black sabbath - paranoid Nirvana - Smells like teen spirit Deep purple - smoke on water Led zepplin - whole lotta rosie
Indie Rock:
Guns n roses - sweet child Sonic Youth - Teenage riot Pixies - here comes your man Muse - small print Smiths - what difference does it make.

Id still have to pick Muscle Museum as the definitive Muse riff. I wouldn't really call QOTSA "indie", more just "rock", but No One Knows is the riff for me by them.

^ what EP just said, especially about QOTSA.
i guess they could also be accused of being more 'rock' than 'indie', but i can't believe no-one has mentioned 'just a day' by feeder yet...

More rock than indie, but Led Zeppelin - Whole Lotta Love.
My sister once asked why someone was playing the theme tune to Top Of The Pops. She got a death stare.

And I've got to agree with Daz, Tom Morello can belt out cake effortlessly.

Jet "are you gonna be my girl"
Although Pixies-wise I LOVE the riff in "dead".

"friday i'm in love" - the cure
also, i'm not sure how 'indie' it is, but "there she goes" - the la's has to be one of the most instantly recognisable riffs in modern music.

Do Fleetwood Mac count? I imagine they don't, but the riff in The Chain is the best I've ever heard!
