^I think I prefer shows divided by seasons rather than a continuum like Eastenders but there are other shows during those months, usually small new shows...

Oh, I don't mean like soaps and that, I meant more that we have new shows that start pretty much every month - and I've honestly heard of no American shows that are on in the summer. I know Futurama and True Blood are on then, but that's it

^No, no, there's lots of new and returning shows, both scripted and reality, starting every summer!! usually they're like 2nd class shows but still there's Weeds, True Blood and a bunch of reality shows like So You Think You Can Dance and a new singing competition called Duets on ABC!

I'm gonna have to check a US TV schedule at the end of June to see what's actually on, haha!

And the audiences for the top shows are higher perhead in UK than US. Example, those Saturday night shows in UK can attract up to 15m people in a population of 60m. In The US the top shows are only 15-20m in a population of 300+m...
They have a lot of channels, so do we now.
I believe Thusday is their big night for TV showings; if a sit-com moves rom that slot it knows it is on the slide.
Also our soaps like Emmerdale, Eastenders and Corrie would be daytime shows in the US - not primetime evening.
We get their shows - bit on the main networks comedy shows from Steptoe tp the Officer always ahd to be re-made fro an American audience. Can't they understand our accents?
I hate CNN for its corrsepondence always having to look like the 'natives' of the region they are based in. Their Far Eastern correspondent will look Oriental, their Middle Eastern look Arab and African correspondent will be black. is this to remind viewers about the people in those regions?

The figures that really matter in the US are the 18-49 demos.
This is the group advertisers aim at.
Sometimes you see big overall viewing figures for a programme but the 18-49 age group watching isn't so big.
This is particularly prevalent on CBS which tends to have an older audience.
Shows like Without A Trace were high in the top 20 overall but got cancelled because the 18-49 demos weren't as good.
