The Voice to receive £5m boost for 2013 - Source: MW 15 June, 2012
By Rhian Jones
BBC talent show The Voice is set to undergo a £5million makeover in time for 2013.
Following the mammoth fall in ratings from the early stages of the competition - which pulled in 10.7 million viewers to a series low of 4.5 million for the semi final - producers are set to make changes to the format.
The Daily Star reports that the budget for the show will be £13m and show creators Endemol and the BBC are trying to work out how to make it ‘bigger and better’.
Judge and rapper will.i.am has reportedly hinted he won’t return next year and replacement rumours are pointing to Eurythmics star Annie Lennox.
A show spokesman told the Daily Star: “We are more than happy with our coaches and are in talks with them now to be a part of the second series.”

Humm, if ratings fell, maybe it's telling them not to splash OUR cash on it again!

Jessie J has revealed she will not be back for a second series of The Voice UK, with fellow judge Tom Jones only agreeing to return if he can have final say over which stars join the 2013 series as judges.
This could see a new look panel for the second series of the BBC show, which will be looking to improve on the low ratings scored during the latter stages of the first series when it aired earlier this year.
With a 2013 UK headline tour already announced, it is perhaps unsurprising that Jessie J will not be back. Reports of backstage diva behaviour did not help matters either.
In fact, it seems that staff on the show will not be sad to see the back of her with one insider telling the Mirror how: “Jessie J is only young. I hope in a few years she looks back on the way she behaved during the show and cringes.”
Meanwhile, Sir Tom Jones has expressed his desire to come back, but only if he knows in advance who he will be judging alongside.
"I think I will do another series. We are talking about it now. But there are a couple of things that need to be ironed out," he told Metro.
"One of the things I said I need to know is who the other coaches are, because I don’t want to be sitting there with somebody that I don’t admire or particularly like... there are a few of them! Hopefully, we will have the same four coaches."

That's the first I've heard of Jessie's Diva-ish behaviour, but it doesn't surprise me. I'd love to see Annie Lennox on the panel though.

If something gets sh*te viewing figures on the bbc, it usually gets pulled, but this gets more cash thrown at it, ridiculous, and programmes like the Fades which people raved about dont get a 2nd series!

Jessie J has confirmed that she will be returning as a coach on the BBC talent show The Voice. The singer tweeted: "The Voice UK Series 2... Are you ready?! I AM " Since the show ended earlier this year, there have been rumours that Jessie J would not be rejoining the panel. However her second tweet made it clear she would be part of the second series. "I WILL be a coach on the 2nd series of The Voice UK! "I'm B B B BACK! As I have always said. Unless you hear it from me- Don't always believe what you read! Can't wait!" The first series of The Voice went head to head in the ratings with ITV's talent show Britain's Got Talent. Initial stages of the programme featured mentors Jessie J, will.i.am, Tom Jones and Danny O'Donoghue in chairs facing away from the performers. If they decided they wanted to represent the contestant, they span their chair round to face them. While these stages attracted large audiences, ratings started to dip towards the end of the competition. Jessie J is the first coach to reveal that she will be back for the series two of the programme.

I hope they don't do an X Factor and actually manage to keep all the coaches - I'd like the show to fight back and prove it has a place.

Only just seen this. I'm sure I read somewhere that the contract was for 2 series. So the BBC have got to stick with the show whether they want to or not.

But they dont have to throw more cash (which they haven't got) if it's not working or getting the ratings?

Just checked, "The BBC won a "bidding war" with ITV, paying £22 million for the rights to broadcast the show in the UK for two years."
True, don't really know, maybe as they're stuck with the show they want to try and make a success of it?

All four coaches to return the The Voice new season The BBC has today (November 13) confirmed that all four original coaches will return to the new season of The Voice.
The Script's Danny O'Donoghue, Jessie J, Welsh crooner Tom Jones and Will.i.Am will come back to the show for the new series in Spring 2013 after much speculation about their commitments to the vocal talent contest.
O'Donoghue said in a statement: "The level of singers auditioning has gone through the roof and I can't wait for the rest of the UK to hear and enjoy all the undiscovered artists there are out there."
The Black Eyed Peas hitmaker added: "This season is gonna be doper than last year."
Following the coaches' statements, the BBC's controller of entertainment commissioning Mark Linsey revealed: "All of them are hugely talented individuals and their immense knowledge and first-hand experience in the music industry makes it a line-up that is authentic and second to none."

The Black Eyed Peas hitmaker added: "This season is gonna be doper than last year." I found all of the judges unbearable last year, so I probably won't be watching. Here's hoping that they still get a completely irrelevant winner like series 1 even with their "new changes"!

I must be the only one who liked the show and look forward to its return. Same here, as a concept it is far better than the god awful fiX-Factor. It was just the production by the BBC at the live stages that was a huge disappointment not least due to the judges/mentors sorely lacking the chemistry the 4 judges/mentors have on the quite brilliant US series that is the problem. and as for the Fonz on water-skis moment of booking someone whom is the very opposite of The Voice = Cheryl Cole on the last series to lipsync ... However, I'd much rather they had spent that part on the music budget on a weekly chart show highlighted the popular selling singles and albums that don't get a look in on mainstream TV, or as part of the Syco/Sony-BMG cartel on that show on ITV.

The Voice UK has confirmed details of its new format for series two.
The BBC talent contest - which again features will.i.am, Jessie J, Sir Tom Jones and Danny O'Donoghue as coaches - has introduced a 'steal' twist to the battle rounds and a new 'knockout' stage prior to the live shows.
The 'steal' will give judges the option to recruit losers of the head-to-head battles to their teams after being snubbed by the coach they sided with in the blind auditions.
Following each battle round, the losing act will be given the chance to pitch to the coaches why they deserve to stay in the competition. Coaches will then have an allotted period of time to decide whether to press the buttons on their spinning red chairs and 'steal' the singer.
As with the blind auditions, if more than one coach attempts to 'steal', the power will shift back to the artist to decide whose team they want to join.
Each coach can only steal one artist during the entirety of the battle rounds, meaning they will have to choose wisely.
The coaches will then head into the 'knockout' stage with seven team members each - the six winners of the battles between the 12 they recruited at the blind auditions, plus their one stolen contestant.
In this round, artists will perform a 'killer song' of their choosing and the coaches will each pick three members of their team to go through to the live shows, creating a final 12 for the public vote.
The Voice UK is expected to launch on BBC One in mid-March, with Holly Willoughby and Reggie Yates returning as hosts.

No amount of money can save this show when the coaches just don't work.
