2012 interview with Sylvester McCoy & Sophie Aldred where Sophie reveals that Russell T. Davies had planned a scene for Ace in the Sarah Jane Adventures. Sadly that will never happen now. www.youtube.com/watch?v=jCC5hmfljCg

There was a brilliant piece in DW magazine about Ace's return and how it would have been dealt with too.

'Asylum of the Daleks'
I guessed what the twist was going to be within the first 10 minutes. However, that was easily the best series opener of the "New Who" era.
..... and ***** ****** ********'s character was amazing. I can't wait and see how that all fits in to this ********* special.

I did really enjoyed that as well, intrigued that the supposed next assistant was in the ep. and supposedly died. She was very good as well, and very easy on the eye!

Very good opener from the new series, enjoyed it, loved Oswin, as Andy said, very easy on the eye, hope I don't get slapped for it.

Was really impressed with Asylum, definitely one of the stronger Matt Smith stories!
I would have liked to see Amy and Rory's marital problems go on a bit longer though. Karen and Arthur acted it really well but it seemed kinda pointless IMO.

Was awesome in every respect. Jaw dropped to floor throughout most of the episode!

That was an almost perfect episode! Oswin was incredible, and I'm fascinated to see how they work round that one. I struggled to see her as a companion before this episode but now I totally get it. I agree that the marital problems should have lasted longer, although they weren't really that feasible to begin with. The outcome of the Daleks forgetting the Doctor is interesting too... is this what's going to happen through the season, after the whole "On the fields of Trenzalore, at the fall of the eleventh, when no living creature can speak falsely or fail to answer, a Question will be asked, a question that must never, ever be answered" thing? Will everyone forget so no one can answer and silence will fall? I'm thinking about this too much, haha.

I did think that that question couldn't be asked, and yet all the daleks were saying it and the doctor was ok with that... I assume the marital problems were just for the bit between love and hatred when Amy was forgetting..

I think that episode was set in the future, so I can see how Oswin was in that episode as a teaser, so to speak. There must be another Dalek episode coming up at some point.

Enjoyed it, good opening episode i thought. Will be interested to see how they bring Oswin back into it later on. I was impressed, i think she will make a great companion.

I assume he can go earlier into her timeline and she can become his companion, timey wimey stuff, with all the timelines River Song had, I'm sure the same can happen again, or maybe because she was a dalek and had forgotten everything that she had already been his assistant, but couldn't remember it.

Would be rather repetitive of the River Song storyline though, with their first meeting being her death, and a very depressing end for a companion to ultimately have! I read another way out theory based on an old Tom Baker story "City of Death": what if she's splintered through time and appears in lots of different adventures in different times and places before he rescues her in time for Christmas?

That sounds more likely The thing is if it was the depressing end, this way the doctor would think up something to save her in time.

But he doesn't ordinarily go around altering timelines just to save his companions. He knows how River died way back, similarly Adric died in the 80s and he couldn't change time to save him. Also, if he altered time here, he'd risk the Daleks knowing about him again and Rory and Amy's relationship never being healed.

Is it just me who would have loved to see a series of him wandering around everywhere with an actual Dalek as a companion, trying to work out a way to free her? Certainly would have been different.

But would we have seen her as a Dalek or as Jenna Louise? Would be a massive waste of a good actress who is also very easy on the eye!
