Beth had a clear advantage being a gymnast.
Matt got all perfect scores from the panel vote in the final but failed to win the public vote. I question how much the general public can know about ice skating, but obviously they want to have a public phone-in vote partly for the public interest and partly for their cash.

I question how much the general public can know about ice skating, but obviously they want to have a public phone-in vote partly for the public interest and partly for their cash. And Matt has a clear advantage being an actor, therefore finding it much easier to put emotion into what he was doing in front of the camera. They both had different strengths, neither strength gave the competitor a distinct all-round advantage. On the night, Matt appeared a little arrogant and was over-marked compared to Beth, in my opinion. The public picked up on that and voted accordingly.

Matt was a total tosser all series and I switched off precisely because I didn't want to see the judges fawning over his less than perfect routines. Luckily for me I tuned in for the final 10 minutes of the series to see the lovely Beth win. Great winner. I used to really like this show but I hope it isn't back next year.

sad to hear Tony Gubba has died. I thought Matt was the best skater, although they both did great in the final.

I wholeheartedly agree with this statement. The idea that Matt was the best skater on Dancing On Ice of all time (better than Ray Quinn = you must be joking) let alone the best dancer in this series was a total embarrassment which reflects very badly on the show. Ultimately Matt should have been KO'd when he stumbled in the Dance off a few weeks ago when only Jason Gardiner voted correctly. When they completely ignored the fact Pamela went out in Week 1 for stumbling in her skate off performance, and her stumble was cited as the reason for her departure. They can't have different standards for different contestants! Strictly learned its lesson that panel favouritism is detrimental to the show and has gone on from strength to strength because it corrected this, DOI (just like fiX-Factor) needs to do the same otherwise viewers will continue to switch over.

^ If Matt had been voted out for stumbling you'd be up in arms that the better skater of the two in that skate off went. Matt was a better skater, but he came across as arrogant. Beth was more likeable. Exactly the same thing happened with Chris Fountain and Suzanne Shaw. And exactly the same thing will continue to happen on shows like this. It's not a big deal. Disappointed however that Karen Barber didn't call Jason a c**t on live TV though

I think that's doing Suzanne a disservice as she was incredible in her final and absolutely the strongest skater on the night. I didn't think Chris was arrogant either

That final was up for grabs going into the final, but on that night Suzanne nailed it and deserved to win. Whilst I never found Chris evenly remotely close to the arrogance shown by Matt. As proved by his twitter last night when he went into a childish meltdown after his ex-congratulated Beth.

I have ALWAYS believed if you have a talent show (whether its SCD, DOI, XF, etc) and there is an elimination Dance/Sing off then everything beforehand should be ignored and the contestants should be judged purely on that Dance/Sing Off performance. Only if that Dance/Sing Off is a close call should previous performances be taken into account.

The voting stats are out. Matt was hilariously unpopular throughout. Last on many occasions and only 25% against Beth's 75%.

Totally agree with all of the above - Matt never hugged and thanked his partner when he was saved to the next week, he always just jumped around, punching the air, shouting "yes". He should have been voted off when he stumbled in the skate off. And actually I preferred Beth's Bolero, not based on my dislike of Matt but based on the fact that I thought there were more to her performance than Matt's and she executed it perfectly.
