^wow, but Im still not sure, did Christopher get genuine votes from fans that liked him or were those just anti-Simon Cowell votes? and things really changed for James after he was bottom 2!!!! What you & the younger generation need to appreciate is that Christopher's market is the same one that watches Alan Titchmarsh's ITV shows. I.E. Mainly older 50+ females who don't use internet blog sites like DS who buy Michael Buble, Neil Diamond, Alfie Boe, Andre Rieu, Military Wives, Cliff Richard, Barry Manilow, Daniel O'Donnell, Rod Stewart (non rock n roll) albums, and regard Mrs Brown's Boys as the funniest thing on TV. I can certainly testify from a family birthday party I went to on Friday night that most of my Aunties wanted Christopher to win. I can certainly believe towards the end of his run at the top of the votes there was an increasing Rage Against The X-Factor/Cowell sausage factory element, but at the beginning certainly not. But what this does suggest is all the negative stories in the press towards Christopher can now be taken with a pretty large truckload of salt as a clear attempt by Max Clifford's PR at black arts smearing to sabotage his chances of winning, and enable Simon Cowell/Syco to get the winner he wanted which was James.

X Factor loses 6m viewers in two years Source: MW by Rhian Jones The X Factor has lost six million viewers in just two years, with ratings down two million on 2011 following this weekend's finale.
The average audience in this ninth season of the television talent show was 8.9 million. Compared to the record-breaking series of two years ago – which launched the careers of One Direction – viewing is down 40%.
Advertising revenues are down by an estimated 10% also, with advertisers paying from £150,000 to £170,000 per 30-second slot from the shows on both Saturday and Sunday night.
At its peak, X Factor spots were going for more than £200,000 – the broadcaster is expected to be £4m short on 2011's haul of revenue. Over the whole season the once £100m programme will generate about £85m.
The weekend final saw performances from Rita Ora, Kylie Minogue, One Direction and Rihanna – James Arthur was crowned winner, with Jahmene Douglas taking second place.

Interesting - Ella Henderson was never higher than 3rd in the voting and that was only in 2 weeks.

Does anyone else think it looks odd from week 7 to week 8, has there ever been such a huge turnaround in % and placings? Bottom two and 13.7% to top and 40.7%? What did he sing that week that had such a dramatic effect?

What did he sing that week that had such a dramatic effect? That was the week he did Let's Get It On. I'm not that surprised really. Typically if an act is in the bottom 2 they will get a bounce the following week. But given that the Ella vs James bottom two was so shocking I think it prompted people to wise up and vote for the actual talent and not for Rylan and Chris.

a simple interpretation is that people started voting for james in his droves when they started to worry he might not survive.

But the same didn't happen for the others acts who were bottom two and saved, it's just a huge jump in % that's all. I guess if voting is relatively low, it's not that many more people voting. So if James had gone, would Ella have had a massive bounce or were we looking at a Jahmene victory?

To be honest its not the best X Factor series, a lot of crap acts, I did think Carolynne Goode was the strongest of the lot, but she had the worst song choice to sing. One good thing though, the best act won in the end and the better song choice, its not the greatest song choice in the world, but its better than having Jehmene bleating Let It Be during your Xmas dinner.

Whether that would have been sustained or not through the rest of the series I'm not sure - probably not given the differences between voters for male & female competitors.

I think James did up his game as well. I didn't actually rate him that much in the early weeks but he really came into his own and started to shine in the latter rounds.

I really disliked him up until he did Sexy And I Know It, which totally changed my opinion of him, and I loved everything he did after that. I didn't even want him to make it through boot camp to start with

Speaking of bottom, anyone else see Rylan get to grips with Nicole S's pert bottom at the end when all the contestants came onto the stage?

I also see chris was number one 7 weeks in a row, do you think the bad press started to change the votes?
