1 2 Diana Vickers - Music To Make Boys Cry VIDEO V.2 (21 weeks; peak #1) 7 WEEKS AT #1! 3rd time at the top!
2 10 London Grammar - Metal and Dust AUDIO STREAM VIDEO (2 weeks; PEAK) 3 17 Goldfrapp - Annabel VIDEO (2 weeks; PEAK) 4 5 London Grammar - Strong VIDEO (10 weeks; PEAK) I have all the top four on CD - as part of their albums. In fact pretty soon i will have 9 of the top 13 on CD which will be nice!
5 1 Light Asylum - Shallow Tears (3 weeks; peak #1) 6 15 London Grammar - Wasting My Young Years (2 weeks; PEAK) 7 38 Banks - London (EP) (Waiting Game / NEW This Is What It Feels Like AUDIO STREAM VIDEO / Bedroom Wall AUDIO STREAM VIDEO / Change (6 weeks; PEAK) EP STREAM Those two tracks are the Banks i love from Warm Water.
8 3 Swiss Lips - Carolyn (2 weeks; peak #3) 9 6 Nine Inch Nails - Everything (4 weeks; peak #5) 10 9 Nine Inch Nails - Copy Of A (5 weeks; peak #6) 11 26 Goldfrapp - Drew (9 weeks; peak #2) 12 4 Bethel Music feat. Jenn Johnson - Chasing You (4 weeks; peak #2) 13 RE Diana Vickers - Cinderella (19 weeks; peak #3) 14 NEW The Polyphonic Spree - Raise Your Head VIDEO Another one that p*sses on Arcade Fire. Cute video with a comedic performance duo called The Umbilical Brothers.
15 NEW Grum - The Theme AUDIO (full length original mix) Why isn't THIS on radio and chart lists?? Out now, eighties-nineties throwback euphoric score-influenced instrumental dance.
16 8 The Polyphonic Spree - You Don't Know Me (5 weeks; peak #2) 17 NEW NYPC (New Young Pony Club) - You Used To Be A Man VIDEO They're back and with a shortened name and lovely Lou absent  . This is as funky as they were on the debut, though. Prince influence abounds here, too.
18 NEW Abel Raise The Cain - Too Late VIDEO Epic ballad rock a bit like Embrace or Elbow. Available as a free download or CD single from their site.
19 NEW Her Royal Harness - Mercenary Man VIDEO Third hit by the synth duo and the one that sounds la bit Eurythmics (and almost shares a song title!).
20 11 Silibil N' Brains - Eat Your Brains (3 weeks; peak #3) 21 NEW Bright Light Bright Light - Inside Out AUDIO STREAM AND FREE DOWNLOAD 22 24 Mutya, Keisha, Siobhan - Flatline (10 weeks; peak #1) 23 7 Donkeyboy with Kiesza - Triggerfinger (2 weeks; peak #7) 24 12 Polly Scattergood - Cocoon (2 weeks; peak #12) 25 52 Example - All The Wrong Places (5 weeks; PEAK) 26 48 Natalia Kills - Saturday Night (9 weeks; peak #8) 27 14 Moby with Wayne Coyne - The Perfect Life (2 weeks; peak #14) 28 20 Natasha Khan and Jon Hopkins - Garden's Heart (2 weeks; peak #20) Hopkins has been nominated for a Mercury (Khan hasn't :-? ). Check out his album Immunity - i may re-chart it in future.
29 29 Emiliana Torrini - Speed Of Dark (6 weeks; peak #2) 30 32 Little Boots - Satellite VIDEO (3 weeks; peak #13) 31 NEW Caitlin Rose - Waitin' LIVE SESSION VIDEO 32 NEW NYPC (New Young Pony Club) - Hard Knocks VIDEO 33 RE Natalia Kills - Controversy (5 weeks; PEAK) 34 NEW The Bloody Beetroots with Paul McCartney and Youth - Out Of Sight VIDEO Rock-dance track that started as a sample of Macca and Youth's The Fireman project but Macca liked their treatment so much he recorded new vocals and is in the video. He's in great voice and this European hit is far better than his own new single.
35 NEW Lovers Electric - Waiting For Something To Happen VIDEO One of FOUR "waiting" songs on the chart! See #s 7, 31 and 55! (and the #4 album)
36 NEW Inouwee - One Hand, One Heart VIDEO Recorded for a Norwegian political compilation.
37 25 Chvrches - The Mother We Share (16 weeks; peak #4) 38 NEW Arcade Fire (with David Bowie) - Reflektor VIDEO / INTERACTIVE ALTERNATIVE VIDEO (for Google Chrome) Sprawl II was a better song and interactive video but the alternative video is neat - especially seeing yourself in a smashed mirror! Bowie provides some notable backing vocals.
39 28 Nine Inch Nails - Came Back Haunted (15 weeks; peak #17) 40 23 The Saturdays - Disco Love (3 weeks; peak #16) 41 16 Ballet School - Heartbeat Overdrive (5 weeks; peak #4) 42 31 Envy - Am I Wrong? But it IS amazing that she's only 16. I'm hoping she's a Del Rey and this is just her over-rated Video Games and she has better in store that will bowl me over. Tennis Court had the right elements but nothing of substance there.
51 34 Laura Welsh - Undiscovered (2 weeks; peak #34) 52 22 Vulkano - Choir Of Wolves (3 weeks; peak #8) 53 19 Light Asylum - In Tension EP (Skull Fuct / Dark Allies / A Certain Person / Knights and Week Ends) (3 weeks; peak #19) 54 37 Lucy Spraggan - Mountains (4 weeks; peak #10) 55 44 Bebe Black - I'll Wait (3 weeks; peak #34) 56 58 Birdy - Wings (2 weeks; PEAK) 57 35 Capital Cities - Safe and Sound (3 weeks; peak #35) 58 NEW Bright Light Bright Light - Blueprints VIDEO From The New Batch album repackage.

MY ALBUM CHART for SEPTEMBER 15th 2013:
1 NEW Diana Vickers - Music To Make Boys Cry DEEZER STREAM SPOTIFY STREAM Got pre-ordered CD with signed photo today! It's just come out to download past midnight today, physical release Monday. I'm delighted to say it's a brilliant pop album and am charting it a week early after London Grammar set a precedent last week.
2 1 Nine Inch Nails - Hesitation Marks (2 weeks; peak #1) 3 NEW Goldfrapp - Tales Of Us
DEEZER STREAM SPOTIFY STREAM More committed to a theme and mood than any of their albums since Felt Mountain though it could do with a bit more musical "oomph" like the stunning Thea.
4 3 London Grammar - If You Wait (2 weeks; peak #3) So i caved in and bought it - as no stream sites have it and i wasn't going to chart it from memory for several months! Believe me, a drop to 4 is in no way a sign that you should disregard this. Although it too is a bit samey and drifts away towards the end, the six bonus download tracks are probably best to hear isolated unless you want an insomnia cure! I'll check them out later.
5 NEW Natalia Kills - Trouble
DEEZER STREAM SPOTIFY STREAM This girl beats GaGa at her own game with a second (auto-biographical and daring) album. Again, not perfect but it's a crying shame the media are basically ignoring this US-based Brit.
6 NEW Emiliana Torrini - Tookah SPOTIFY STREAM The synthy single is misleading. It's more like her usual more gentle quirky music.
7 NEW Factory Floor - Factory Floor DEEZER STREAM SPOTIFY STREAM Dance group's new album.
8 NEW College - Heritage] DEEZER STREAM SPOTIFY STREAM New album from French electronic act from Drive OST. This one goes further back to the 70's Tangerine Dream era.
9 NEW College - Secret Diary DEEZER STREAM SPOTIFY STREAM 2008.
10 NEW College - Northern Council DEEZER STREAM SPOTIFY STREAM 2011.
11 6 White Lies - Big TV (5 weeks; peak #1) 12 7 The Polyphonic Spree - Yes, It's True (5 weeks; peak #2) 13 9 Light Asylum - Light Asylum (3 weeks; peak #7) 14 8 Silibil N' Brains - The Eat Your Brains EP (mini-album) (3 weeks; peak #3) 15 2 Exuma - Exuma (2 weeks; peak #2) 16 NEW Natalia Kills - Perfectionist DEEZER STREAM SPOTIFY STREAM 2011 debut.
17 5 Bethel Music - Tides (2 weeks; peak #5) 18 NEW Arctic Monkeys - Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not DEEZER STREAM SPOTIFY STREAM 2006.
19 RE Bright Light Bright Light - Make Me Believe In Hope (14 weeks; peak #2) The New Batch repackage DEEZER STREAM Another THIRD(!) version of the album - Blueprints (with various guest duet recordings) is out on Monday!
20 NEW Arctic Monkeys - AM DEEZER STREAM SPOTIFY STREAM 21 4 Exuma - Exuma II (2 weeks; peak #4) 22 NEW Arctic Monkeys - Favourite Worst Nightmare 23 12 The 1975 - The 1975 (2 weeks; peak #12) 24 NEW Janelle Monae - The ArchAndroid 25 NEW The Weeknd - Kiss Land 26 NEW Arctic Monkeys - Humbug 27 NEW Janelle Monae - The Electric Lady 28 10 Space March - Mountain King (2 weeks; peak #10) 29 11 Space March - Monumental (2 weeks; peak #11) 30 NEW Janelle Monae - Metropolis (Suite 1: The Chase) (mini-album)

MY CHART for SEPTEMBER 22nd 2013:
1 1 Diana Vickers - Music To Make Boys Cry VIDEO V.2 (22 weeks; peak #1) 8 WEEKS AT #1!
2 2 London Grammar - Metal and Dust (3 weeks; peak #2) 3 NEW White Lies - First Time Caller VIDEO
Described by the band as the best song they've ever written, it's not but it is the best on the album.
4 3 Goldfrapp - Annabel (3 weeks; peak #3) 5 4 London Grammar - Strong (11 weeks; peak #4) 6 10 (9) Nine Inch Nails - Copy Of A / Everything (5 weeks; peak #6) I've decided to merge the two releases to clear up space as neither has a video.
7 5 Light Asylum - Shallow Tears (4 weeks; peak #1) 8 NEW FKA Twigs - EP2 (Papi Pacify VIDEO (plus EP playlist stream) / Water Me VIDEO / How's That? VIDEO / Ultraviolet
An alternative urban electronica artist formerly known as Twigs. This is eerie, sensual and in the case of Papi Pacify quite unsettling (just watch the video!). Water Me is the chosen lead "single" but Papi Pacify is the one that gets me the most.
9 6 London Grammar - Wasting My Young Years (3 weeks; peak #6) 10 8 Swiss Lips - Carolyn (3 weeks; peak #3) 11 7 Banks - London (EP) (Waiting Game / This Is What It Feels Like / Bedroom Wall / Change (7 weeks; peak #7) 12 NEW Alice In Chains - The Devil Put Dinosaurs Here VIDEO Young Earth Creationists (those that insist the earth was created 6,000 years ago and that dinos lived alongside men) get right on my wick, misrepresenting Christians as stupid and ill-informed.
13 13 Diana Vickers - Cinderella (20 weeks; peak #3) 14 NEW VV Brown - The Apple VIDEO More Christian symbolism! This is from her new alternative music album - more in the album chart.
15 17 NYPC (New Young Pony Club) - You Used To Be A Man (2 weeks; PEAK) 16 14 The Polyphonic Spree - Raise Your Head (2 weeks; peak #14) 17 50 Lorde - Royals LIVE TV CLIP (2 weeks; PEAK) She was on UK TV - Jools Holland (see above) and i suddenly saw what everyone else saw in her!

36 21 Bright Light Bright Light - Inside Out (2 weeks; peak #21) 37 33 Natalia Kills - Controversy (6 weeks; peak #33) 38 RE The Joy Formidable - Silent Treatment Passion Pit Remix AUDIO STREAM VIDEO (4 weeks; peak #32) Great mix.
39 NEW The Killers - Shot At The Night AUDIO STREAM VIDEO Equally as eighties as the College track. Sounds like something off a John Cusack film.
40 25 Example - All The Wrong Places (6 weeks; peak #25) 41 NEW Lovers Electric - If Love Is Not The Answer VIDEO 3rd video from 5-track EP - see album chart.
42 34 The Bloody Beetroots with Paul McCartney and Youth - Out Of Sight (2 weeks; peak #34) 43 27 Moby with Wayne Coyne - The Perfect Life (3 weeks; peak #14) 44 NEW VV Brown - Samson VIDEO 45 RE Solange - Lovers In The Parking Lot VIDEO (5 weeks; peak #31) 46 35 Lovers Electric - Waiting For Something To Happen (2 weeks; peak #35) 47 40 The Saturdays - Disco Love (4 weeks; peak #16) 48 36 Inouwee - One Hand, One Heart (2 weeks; peak #36) 49 38 Arcade Fire (with David Bowie) - Reflektor (2 weeks; peak #38) 50 32 NYPC (New Young Pony Club) - Hard Knocks (2 weeks; peak #32) 51 43 James Arthur - You're Nobody 'Til Somebody Loves You VIDEO (3 weeks; peak #30) 52 61 Lovers Electric - Storm (5 weeks; peak #21) 53 37 Chvrches - The Mother We Share (17 weeks; peak #4) 54 RE Gary Numan - I Am Dust FAN VIDEO / OFFICIAL AUDIO STREAM VIDEO (6 weeks; peak #10) 55 44 Placebo - Too Many Friends (3 weeks; peak #33) 56 41 Ballet School - Heartbeat Overdrive (6 weeks; peak #4) 57 NEW Gary Numan - Love, Hurt, Bleed AUDIO 58 47 SPC ECO - Fallen Stars (2 weeks; peak #47) 59 55 Bebe Black - I'll Wait (4 weeks; peak #34) 60 RE Bright Light Bright Light with Beth Hirsch - Grace (4 weeks; peak #24) 61 51 Laura Welsh - Undiscovered (3 weeks; peak #34) 62 42 Envy - Am I Wrong? (3 weeks; peak #31) Now removed from UK iTunes which suggests a big push for radio with a rerelease?
63 NEW The Temperance Movement - Only Friend SESSION VIDEO Brit blues-rock band set to score a surprise entry on this week's UK album chart. Features former members of Rooster and Jamiroquai.
64 57 Capital Cities - Safe and Sound (4 weeks; peak #35) 65 65 OMD - Night Cafe (8 weeks; peak #16) 66 56 Birdy - Wings (3 weeks; peak #56) 67 NEW Tegan and Sara - Goodbye, Goodbye VIDEO They keep releasing the worst songs from the album (or avoiding the best). :x
68 58 Bright Light Bright Light - Blueprints (2 weeks; peak #58) 69 RE Katie Melua - I Will Be There (4 weeks; peak #46) 70 48 Tricky with The Antlers - Parenthesis (3 weeks; peak #27) 71 45 The Dolly Rockers - One More (9 weeks; peak #9) 72 53 Light Asylum - In Tension EP (Skull Fuct / Dark Allies / A Certain Person / Knights and Week Ends) (4 weeks; peak #19) 73 46 John Foxx and Jori Hulkkonen - European Splendour (EP) (Evangeline / Strictly / Something Is Coming Down The Avenues / Can't See You Anymore) (4 weeks; peak #13) 74 52 Vulkano - Choir Of Wolves (4 weeks; peak #8) 75 RE Lucy Spraggan - Last Night (Beer Fear) 2013 VERSION VIDEO (3 weeks; peak #36) Rather too polished compared to the original.

MY ALBUM CHART for SEPTEMBER 22nd 2013:
1 1 Diana Vickers - Music To Make Boys Cry (2 weeks; peak #1) 2 3 Goldfrapp - Tales Of Us (2 weeks; PEAK) 3 2 Nine Inch Nails - Hesitation Marks (3 weeks; peak #1) 4 4 London Grammar - If You Wait (3 weeks; peak #3) 5 NEW Mark Lanegan Band - Blues Funeral
SPOTIFY STREAM Catching up on 2011 release as his new covers albums charts considerably lower.
6 5 Natalia Kills - Trouble (2 weeks; peak #5) 7 NEW VV Brown - Samson and Delilah
DEEZER STREAM SPOTIFY STREAM After years of trying to be a popstar she goes in a completely unexpected direction and makes an alternative album! Produced in part by Dave Okumu (The Invisible - Jessie Ware's main collaborator) as well as Liam Howe (Marina) and Pascal Gabriel (Ladyhawke etc.). The first track Substitute For Love is astounding and so are other parts of it. 8 NEW Lovers Electric - Waiting For Something To Happen (mini-album) DEEZER STREAM SPOTIFY STREAM
9 NEW OMD - Night Cafe (mini-album) DEEZER STREAM SPOTIFY STREAM 6 tracks plus mixes of Night Cafe. Too long and too many tracks to be a single. At 10 tracks, it's practically an album! But that's how they want it as they won't ever chart again with a single.
10 6 Emiliana Torrini - Tookah (2 weeks; peak #6) 11 7 Factory Floor - Factory Floor (2 weeks; peak #7) 12 11 White Lies - Big TV (6 weeks; peak #1) 13 8 College - Heritage (2 weeks; peak #8) 14 NEW The Naked and Famous - In Rolling Waves DEEZER STREAM SPOTIFY STREAM If you feel (rightly) let down by their insistence on being introspective rather than big epic pop go and listen to VV Brown.
15 9 College - Secret Diary (2 weeks; peak #9) 16 10 College - Northern Council (2 weeks; peak #10) 17 NEW Lorde - The Love Club EP (mini-album) DEEZER STREAM You can no longer buy this in UK but it's still up on Deezer! Featuring future hit Royals - as a 5-track OCC wouldn't allow it to chart anyway. 18 12 The Polyphonic Spree - Yes, It's True (6 weeks; peak #2) 19 19 Bright Light Bright Light - Make Me Believe In Hope (15 weeks; peak #2) Blueprints Version DEEZER STREAM
20 14 Silibil N' Brains - The Eat Your Brains EP (mini-album) (4 weeks; peak #3) 21 13 Light Asylum - Light Asylum (4 weeks; peak #7) 22 NEW The Temperance Movement - The Temperance Movement 23 NEW Mark Lanegan - Imitations 24 NEW Placebo - Loud Like Love 25 NEW Katie Melua - Ketevan 26 NEW Elton John - The Diving Board 27 NEW The Bloody Beetroots - Hide 28 NEW Yoko Ono Plastic Ono Band - Take Me To The Land Of Hell 29 NEW Carcass - Surgical Steel 30 16 Natalia Kills - Perfectionist (2 weeks; peak #16)

MY ALBUM CHART for SEPTEMBER 29th 2013:
1 1 Diana Vickers - Music To Make Boys Cry (3 weeks; peak #1) 2 NEW Tangerine Dream and Co. (Woody Jackson, The Alchemist, Oh No and DJ Shadow) - The Music of Grand Theft Auto V, Volume 2: The Score (game OST)
DEEZER STREAM SPOTIFY STREAM I don't play computer games (i played the first GTA on a friend's PC ages ago) but i love TD and this score is fantastic. Great to see them back in public consciousness thanks to this phenomenon - the fastest selling entertainment product in history. If you want classic TD electro-synth magic go straight to track 5. The score as a whole integrates all the acts at various points.
3 NEW Chvrches - The Bones Of What You Believe
DEEZER STREAM SPOTIFY STREAM And there's a Tangerine Dream influence on the best track on here Science/Visions! A shame two of the best tracks are download only and not on the CD.

MY CHART for OCT. 6th 2013
1 NEW Badfinger - Baby Blue TV CLIP Classic 1971 track and 1972 US single by Brit rock band. Was assigned a UK catalogue number but problems at Apple records prevented a release (you can get a copy of the US vinyl online, though). It made the US top 15 and is now charting on UK downloads for the first time. Why? It was used in the finale of Breaking Bad - a fantastic TV drama about one man and his "love" for "Baby Blue" - crystal meth. Although the ending was less ambiguous than The Sopranos, the song was as inspired as that show's use of Don't Stop Believing which became a huge hit when Glee piggybacked it afterwards. Will Glee take this on, too?

MY CHART for NOVEMBER 3rd 2013:
1 NEW Zombi - Sapphire AUDIO / Digitalis FAN VIDEO This week i bought the long-awaited debut album by synth duo Miracle. As a result i have also been catching up on the numerous other bands the members are or have been in. One half of the duo Steve Moore is in this space rock / prog rock / electronic dance act. Sapphire was a b-side of Digitalis in 2007 and was recently remixed and issued as a single in its own right. I combined both releases. I previously charted Zombi's most recent album and single Escape Velocity. Sapphire is a stunning slice of Tangerine Dream-ish prog synth electronic disco. The section near the end is worth waiting for!
2 NEW Peter Godwin - Images Of Heaven VIDEO (nudity) / ALTERNATE VIDEO FOR MTV
An incredible ignored (apart from US college radio) synth track from 81 or 82 (it's not clear from research, could be either). Discovered this while researching adds on the Retro Charts for 1983. Got to the uncensored video (which is rather tame by today's standards and not good quality in that only upload anyway. If you can spot a clear nipple i'll give you a medal!) via a dodgy metal band! Godwin is British and still active.
3 1 Echosmith - Cool Kids (3 weeks; peak #1) 4 RE Miracle - Good Love VIDEO (just to remind people!) (12 weeks; peak #3) Hurts, Depeche Mode blah blah blah...
5 NEW Mothlite - Something In The Sky VIDEO
Daniel O'Sullivan from Miracle's other synth project and one of the many things (i discover only now) that held up the Miracle album.
6 2 Regina Spektor - You've Got Time (3 weeks; peak #2) 7 13 Miracle - Mercury AUDIO VIDEO STREAM (the album is not available to stream yet) (6 weeks; PEAK) 8 3 Marsheaux - Inhale (2 weeks; peak #3) 9 7 Vaults - Cry No More (2 weeks; peak #7) 10 NEW Peter Godwin - The Art Of Love 1984 SINGLE VERSION AUDIO / 2013 REMIX VIDEO Another classic lost in the 80's now with a new mix by Godwin's fellow band member in Nuevo.
11 NEW Grumbling Fur - The Ballad Of Roy Batty VIDEO Daniel O'Sullivan again. This duo are more art rock/ experimental than Miracle and Mothlite. This track takes Rutger Hauer's famous dialogue from Blade Runner and sets it to a synth backing. Inspired by Vangelis' OST but not quite in the same league.
12 5 FKA Twigs - Water Me / Papi Pacify / How's That? / Ultraviolet (EP2) (7 weeks; peak #1) 13 NEW Grumbling Fur - Wylderness Waiting AUDIO 14 4 Anna Calvi - Sing To Me (5 weeks; peak #3) 15 NEW Mothlite - Seeing In The Dark VIDEO 16 NEW George Barnett - Animal Keeper VIDEO Absolutely crazy alt-electronic track from the BBC Introducing part of the Radio 1 playlist.
17 8 White Lies - First Time Caller (7 weeks; peak #3) 18 6 Korn - Never Never (6 weeks; peak #1) 19 9 Banks - This Is What It Feels Like / Waiting Game / Bedroom Wall / Change (London EP) (13 weeks; peak #4) 20 10 The National - Graceless (3 weeks; peak #6) 21 14 Swiss Lips - In The Water (3 weeks; peak #12) 22 11 Gary Clark Jr - Numb (2 weeks; peak #11) 23 12 Chloe Howl - Paper Heart (2 weeks; peak #12) 24 23 Holly Henry - Paper Love ^ (2 weeks; peak #23) 25 17 Lorde - Tennis Court (7 weeks; peak #11) 26 18 Charli XCX - SuperLove (6 weeks; peak #15) 27 16 Gary Numan - Love, Hurt, Bleed (5 weeks; peak #13) 28 15 The Jezabels - The End (3 weeks; peak #14) 29 RE Foxes - Youth (5 weeks; PEAK) 30 27 London Grammar - Nightcall (3 weeks; peak #22) 31 19 Ballet School - Heartbeat Overdrive / Ghost VIDEO / Crush / Yaoi (/ Boys Again EP) (9 weeks; peak #4) 32 25 Mefjus and Icicle - Contemporary (2 weeks; peak #25) 33 20 Sons Of The Sea - Lady Black / Space and Time / Where All The Songs Come From / Come Together (Compass EP) (6 weeks; peak #4) 34 RE Lorde - Team (3 weeks; PEAK) 35 NEW The Naked and Famous - I Kill Giants VIDEO 36 NEW DJ MEG with Serebro - Ugar VIDEO (adult) Unveiling new blonde Serebro member Dasha. Somewhat questionable video.
37 29 Anoushka Shankar with Norah Jones - Traces Of You (4 weeks; peak #24) 38 21 Say Lou Lou - Better In The Dark (2 weeks; peak #21) 39 40 Echosmith - Talking Dreams (3 weeks; PEAK) 40 26 Korn - Love and Meth (3 weeks; peak #17) 41 24 Polly Scattergood - Cocoon (9 weeks; peak #12) 42 39 Lorde - Royals (7 weeks; peak #17) 43 NEW Janet Devlin - Wonderful VIDEO 44 NEW Prince Innocence - Dissipate LIVE VIDEO 45 31 Deap Vally - Walk Of Shame (4 weeks; peak #27) 46 28 NYPC - You Used To Be A Man (8 weeks; peak #9) 47 30 Goldfrapp - Annabel (9 weeks; peak #3) 48 33 Diana Vickers - Music To Make Boys Cry (28 weeks; peak #1) 49 35 London Grammar - Metal and Dust / Wasting My Young Years (9 weeks; peak #2) 50 41 London Grammar - Strong (17 weeks; peak #4) 51 22 Hillsong Young and Free - Back To Life (5 weeks; peak #9) 52 RE Paul McCartney - Queenie Eye (allstar) VIDEO (2 weeks; PEAK) 53 37 Swiss Lips - Carolyn (9 weeks; peak #3) 54 32 Anna Calvi - Eliza (4 weeks; peak #23) 55 36 VV Brown - The Apple (7 weeks; peak #10) 56 34 Lonely The Brave - Black Saucers (4 weeks; peak #11) 57 50 Echosmith - Come Together (3 weeks; peak #50) 58 NEW Chas and Dave - Right String Baby (But The Wrong Yo-Yo) VIDEO 59 38 Natalia Kills - Saturday Night (16 weeks; peak #8) 60 RE Ellie Goulding - How Long Will I Love You? VIDEO V.2 (2 weeks; peak #59) Now for Children In Need. Second video is also from a short film starring Ellie.
---------
MY ALBUM CHART for NOVEMBER 3rd 2013:
1 NEW Miracle - Mercury Sadly no stream yet. I have the CD - it's brilliant synth pop that has dark and progressive elements. Totally puts Depeche Mode's latest to shame. And Hurts'. See also #s 3, 4, 9, 10, 13 ,14 ,19 and 20 for Daniel O'Sullivan and Steve Moore's (9, 13 and 14) other acts!
2 NEW Nico - Drama Of Exile
YOUTUBE STREAM Lou Reed died and through listening to him i listened to the singer he worked with, the late Nico. This was from 1981 and is infused with new wave and post-punk amazingness. Features a JOYOUS closing cover of Bowie's Heroes and her own version of VU's Waiting For The Man. A strange story behind the original release caused a 1983 rework of the album. AFAICT this playlist stream is the 1981 version. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Drama_of_Exile
3 NEW Mothlite - Dark Age
DEEZER STREAM SPOTIFY STREAM Influenced by Tears For Fears and Kate Bush.
4 NEW Grumbling Fur - Glynnaestra
SPOTIFY STREAM It's proggy and has titles that look incomprehensible!
5 1 Marsheaux - Inhale (3 weeks; peak #1) 6 NEW The Velvet Underground and Nico - The Velvet Underground and Nico
DEEZER STREAM (45th AE set features Nico's Chelsea Girl album) SPOTIFY STREAM (as above) 1967.
7 NEW Lou Reed - Transformer
DEEZER STREAM SPOTIFY STREAM 1973.
8 NEW Nico - The End...
DEEZER STREAM SPOTIFY STREAM 1974. Still don't like that awful Doors song, though... I tried her acclaimed 69-70 albums The Marble Index and Desertshore (on the set The Frozen Borderline) but they were far too drony and dreary for me.
9 NEW Zombi - Surface To Air
DEEZER STREAM SPOTIFY STREAM 2006. Maybe their best. Previously charted Escape Velocity earlier this year which may also be.
10 NEW Grumbling Fur - Furrier
DEEZER STREAM Earlier 2011 set and way more prog rock and less synth.
11 NEW Nico - Chelsea Girl
DEEZER STREAM (see also #6) SPOTIFY STREAM (see also #6) 1967, followed VU and Nico, features several VU members. The song Chelsea Girls is wonderful but the rest of the set can't match it.
12 2 Anna Calvi - One Breath (4 weeks; peak #1) 13 NEW Zombi - Cosmos
DEEZER STREAM SPOTIFY STREAM 2004 debut. Again, more prog, less electronic than later.
14 NEW Zombi - Spirit Animal
DEEZER STREAM SPOTIFY STREAM 2009. Track 2 should be titled Spirit Warrior on the streams.
15 NEW Lorde - Pure Heroine DEEZER STREAM SPOTIFY STREAM She has promise but this isn't there yet..
16 NEW Nico and The Faction - Camera Obscura YOUTUBE STREAM (most of album) 1985 - Nico's final studio release.
17 NEW Arcade Fire - Reflektor DEEZER STREAM SPOTIFY STREAM It's not bad, i need to give it more attention as i was rather sidetracked with all the OTHER epic progressive and alternative stuff this week!
18 3 Katy Perry - Prism (2 weeks; peak #3) Nice trio of connecting titles there, plus Lorde's which connects with a VU song from #6!
19 NEW Mothlite - The Flax Of Reverie SPOTIFY STREAM 2008 debut. Less accessible than the second.
20 NEW Ulver - Wars Of The Roses DEEZER STREAM SPOTIFY STREAM Norwegian prog folk band that featured Daniel O'Sullivan until recently.
21 4 Prefab Sprout - Crimson / Red (4 weeks; peak #2) 22 6 Marsheaux - Lumineux Noir (3 weeks; peak #4) 23 9 Diana Vickers - Music To Make Boys Cry (8 weeks; peak #1) 24 7 Anna Calvi - Anna Calvi (4 weeks; peak #4) 25 10 Marsheaux - Peekaboo (3 weeks; peak #7) 26 11 Marsheaux - E-bay Queen (3 weeks; peak #8) 27 12 Echosmith - Talking Dreams (3 weeks; peak #12) 28 5 Polly Scattergood - Arrows (2 weeks; peak #5) 29 8 Korn - The Paradigm Shift (4 weeks; peak #3) 30 14 Gary Numan - Splinter (Songs From A Broken Mind) (3 weeks; peak #12) 31 20 London Grammar - If You Wait (9 weeks; peak #3) 32 13 San Cisco - San Cisco (4 weeks; peak #6) 33 17 Chvrches - The Bones Of What You Believe (6 weeks; peak #3) 34 15 Goldfrapp - Tales Of Us (8 weeks; peak #2) 35 16 Tangerine Dream and Co. - The Music of Grand Theft Auto V, Volume 2: The Score (game OST) (6 weeks; peak #1) 36 19 Sons Of The Sea - Sons Of The Sea (6 weeks; peak #5) 37 23 Nine Inch Nails - Hesitation Marks (9 weeks; peak #1) 38 18 Fuzz - Fuzz (4 weeks; peak #5) 39 21 Capital Cities - In A Tidal Wave Of Mystery (5 weeks; peak #6) 40 22 NYPC - NYPC (4 weeks; peak #9) 41 25 VV Brown - Samson and Delilah (7 weeks; peak #7) 42 27 Natalia Kills - Trouble (8 weeks; peak #5) 43 26 Kids In Glass Houses - Peace (5 weeks; peak #12) 44 28 Holy Ghost! - Dynamics (5 weeks; peak #13) 45 NEW Lou Reed - Metal Machine Music I got throught it in one go!
46 NEW Boy George - This Is What I Do 47 NEW Chas and Dave - That's What Happens ^^Straighttalking couple of titles!
48 29 Dan Le Sac vs Scroobius Pip - Repent, Replenish, Repeat (4 weeks; peak #13) 49 31 Anoushka Shankar - Traces Of You (4 weeks; peak #16) 50 30 Lucy Spraggan - Join The Club (4 weeks; peak #12)

FULL "Tom & Issy" SHORT FILM (3 weeks; PEAK) Her brilliant acting in this as a nervous budding singer really helped me chart this higher. Note the Lily Allen "diss".
28 20 Grumbling Fur - Wylderness Waiting (3 weeks; peak #13) 29 21 Mothlite - Seeing In The Dark (3 weeks; peak #15) 30 22 Korn - Never Never (8 weeks; peak #1) 31 25 Chloe Howl - Paper Heart (4 weeks; peak #12) 32 33 The Naked and Famous - I Kill Giants (3 weeks; PEAK) 33 31 Holly Henry - Paper Love (4 weeks; peak #23) 34 27 The National - Graceless (5 weeks; peak #6) 35 34 Gary Numan - Love, Hurt, Bleed (7 weeks; peak #13) 36 30 Lorde - Tennis Court (9 weeks; peak #11) 37 43 Tom Odell - I Know (2 weeks; PEAK) 38 32 Gary Clark Jr - Numb (4 weeks; peak #11) 39 45 Paul McCartney - Queenie Eye (4 weeks; PEAK) 40 NEW Matt Cardle - When You Were My Girl VIDEO This is more like an Imagination track from the 80's than anything Cardle-esque! His first hit since When We Collide. There's a better track on the album, too.
41 28 Dorothy's Legs - Mable (2 weeks; peak #28) 42 36 London Grammar - Nightcall (5 weeks; peak #22) 43 RE The Killers - Shot At The Night (5 weeks; peak #36) 44 NEW Royksopp with Susanne Sundfor - Running To The Sea VIDEO 45 39 Mefjus and Icicle - Contemporary (4 weeks; peak #25) 46 37 Bombay Bicycle Club - Carry Me (2 weeks; peak #37) 47 40 Prince Innocence - Dissipate (3 weeks; peak #40) 48 NEW Celine Dion - Loved Me Back To Life LYRIC VIDEO Yes, following her surprisingly good French album last year, she's taken on that less-is-more approach for her next English release. This was co-written by Sia (who also co-wrote one of the good songs on Katy Perry's Prism) and is more like Enigma than a power ballad. She still hasn't made a proper video for it, though. 49 46 Diana Vickers - Music To Make Boys Cry (30 weeks; peak #1) 50 38 Ballet School - Heartbeat Overdrive / Ghost / Crush / Yaoi (/ Boys Again EP) (11 weeks; peak #4)

7 NEW Scroobius Pip - Distraction Pieces DEEZER STREAM SPOTIFY STREAM Catching up on his solo outing from 2011. Actually better than all the albums with Dan Le Sac bar the debut. The last track is a cover of Kate Bush's Feel It. You should check out his own torrent version of album tracks (on YouTube, of course not the evil torrent sites) where he spoils the tracks with improvised monologues. www.youtube.com/watch?v=NtYBD_z_CXo and www.youtube.com/watch?v=H5H6vR316T0 If it's on a stream site, why the hell are you torrenting it?

MY CHRISTMAS CHART for DECEMBER 22nd 2013:1 5 Beyonce - XO YOUTUBE VIDEO (2 weeks; PEAK) First #1 since Lose My Breath (Destiny's Child) in 2004. Who'd have thought?? Now the official first single.
2 1 Katy Perry - Unconditionally VIDEO (3 weeks; peak #1) 3 3 Keep Shelly In Athens - Oostende VIDEO (3 weeks; peak #2) Some comments on this would be nice.
4 4 Kelly Clarkson - Underneath The Tree VIDEO (4 weeks; peak #4) 5 NEW Chloe Howl - Rumour (reissue) VIDEO V.2
As with No Strings, another song from her free download Rumour EP is set to get a full paid release and has a brand new video. The Rumour EP got to #2 on my chart, largely on the strength of this song. As with the paid release of No Strings, it now gets a new chart run.
6 2 Rebecca Black and Dave Days - Saturday (3 weeks; peak #2) 7 NEW Phildel - Comfort Me VIDEO / Delerium Remix AUDIO
Go to the excellent Delerium mix first - it elevates the song by about 20 places. From her new winter-based mini-album The Glass Ghost.
8 6 Bright Light Bright Light - In Your Care / An Open Heart / Same Dream / Movement In The Dark (In Your Care EP) (5 weeks; peak #1) 9 7 Keep Shelly In Athens - Recollection (3 weeks; peak #6) 10 13 Beyonce - Jealous (2 weeks; PEAK) 11 8 Sia with The Weeknd and Diplo - Elastic Heart (5 weeks; peak #2) 12 9 Diana Vickers - Mad At Me (5 weeks; peak #2) 13 11 Electric Lady Lab - Open Doors (7 weeks; peak #3) 14 12 Andy Hunter with Beth Bullock - Spiral (3 weeks; peak #12) 15 10 Keep Shelly In Athens - Madmen Love (3 weeks; peak #7) 16 35 Future Of Forestry - O Come All Ye Faithful VIDEO (2 weeks; PEAK)
17 19 Dan Le Sac vs Scroobius Pip - You Will See Me (2 weeks; PEAK) 18 NEW Warpaint - Love Is To Die AUDIO STREAM VIDEO
A video by Chris Cunningham is coming.
19 14 Chvrches - Lies (19 weeks; peak #5) 20 15 Charlotte OC - Colour My Heart / Hangover / Cut The Rope / Stolen Car (Colour My Heart EP) (5 weeks; peak #6) 21 NEW Kerli - Skyscraper AUDIO
I loved this Estonian-born US-based singer's first album - not so much her generic dance-based later stuff. What i didn't know was that she co-wrote the original version of this Demi Lovato / Sam Bailey (UK X Factor winner) hit and an unreleased demo is on YouTube. Inflected with genuine emotion, it's the best version, not as grand but way more vulnerable and affecting. Demi's is fine, though i haven't been inclined to chart it.
22 16 Echosmith - Cool Kids (10 weeks; peak #1) 23 20 Friends - The Way (3 weeks; peak #20) So sad to hear producer Dev Hynes and Friends singer Samantha Urbani's flat burnt down this week, the couple lost everything including their new puppy.

MY CHART for DECEMBER 29th 2013:
1 1 Beyonce - XO VIDEO (3 weeks; peak #1) I hadn't realised this uses a clip of the NASA Challenger Space Shuttle tragedy controller audio - i can see why they're in uproar over it. If it was used in a more sombre song, it wouldn't seem so inappropriate. This is surely too joyous a song for it? news.sky.com/story/1188714/beyonce-attacked-over-nasa-audio-in-xo-song
2 2 Katy Perry - Unconditionally (4 weeks; peak #1) 3 3 Keep Shelly In Athens - Oostende (4 weeks; peak #2) 4 7 Phildel - Comfort Me (2 weeks; PEAK) 5 5 Chloe Howl - Rumour (reissue) (2 weeks; peak #5) 6 NEW The Blockheads - Boys Will Be Boys VIDEO (Dun Punkin' Short Film)
Video starring Toyah Willcox and members of The Clash, Madness and The Hot Rods.
7 8 Bright Light Bright Light - In Your Care / An Open Heart / Same Dream / Movement In The Dark (In Your Care EP) (6 weeks; peak #1) 8 13 Electric Lady Lab - Open Doors (8 weeks; peak #3) 9 9 Keep Shelly In Athens - Recollection (4 weeks; peak #6) 10 12 Diana Vickers - Mad At Me (6 weeks; peak #2) 11 6 Rebecca Black and Dave Days - Saturday (4 weeks; peak #2) 12 11 Sia with The Weeknd and Diplo - Elastic Heart (6 weeks; peak #2) 13 14 Andy Hunter with Beth Bullock - Spiral (4 weeks; peak #12) 14 NEW Impact - One Step Away VIDEO One of three entries this week by Hi-NRG / pop producer Ian Levine prompted after i saw him discuss smashing Sinitta's So Macho over Simon Cowell's head when he pestered him to play it at the Heaven club - told in doc Queer As Pop on Channel 4. This was made (but not released) in 1997 after his success with Bad Boys Inc and (ahem) Optimystic. And it is a thing of wonder!
He's not answered my comment yet:
"You can actually buy this! It's on Amazon and iTunes. This video is fascinating. Firstly - and i'm sure you wanted this reaction - the lead girl is, from this hetero male's angle - bangin'! What's her name? She's like Kym Marsh, Michelle Heaton and the obscenely under-rated Kelly O'Keefe from obscenely under-rated Deuce kind of rolled into one! The other girl seems a bit unused vocally, poor thing. The lads are clearly aimed at being identifiable to straight lads, right? The one with the glasses looks like he turned up for a Northern Uproar video (infamous over-hyped indie band) and walked in on the wrong video shoot! Hilarious! He's like Terry from East 17 but better!"
 I don't know if it will be here next week so this is your one chance to see this amazing video.
15 NEW David and Olivia - Finally Fine VIDEO Americana / folk duo. And here she is solo...
16 NEW Olivia May - Honey VIDEO She started out as an actress in racy American Pie knock-offs - Google image is your friend (Olivia Alaina May) - and is now in her music incarnation like a better Zooey Deschanel, who she looks a bit like with her fringe. More from her and Her and Him  on the album chart.
17 31 Katy B - Crying For No Reason VIDEO (2 weeks; PEAK) 18 18 Warpaint - Love Is To Die (2 weeks; peak #18) 19 10 Beyonce - Jealous (3 weeks; peak #10) 20 15 Keep Shelly In Athens - Madmen Love (4 weeks; peak #7) 21 NEW Desiderata - Heart Of Glass AUDIO (12" Mix) More Ian Levine. From 1988, a Hi-NRG version of the Blondie classic, released the same year as both a Harry / Blondie remix album and a substandard cover by The Associates. Desiderata was a pseudonym for Jill Saward of Shakatak and the 1981 Enigma group, and later of the techno act Jackie O.
22 20 Charlotte OC - Colour My Heart / Hangover / Cut The Rope / Stolen Car (Colour My Heart EP) (6 weeks; peak #6) 23 19 Chvrches - Lies (20 weeks; peak #5) 24 21 Kerli - Skyscraper (2 weeks; peak #21) 25 17 Dan Le Sac vs Scroobius Pip - You Will See Me (3 weeks; peak #17) 26 25 The Blockheads - Express Yourself (4 weeks; peak #21) 27 22 Echosmith - Cool Kids (11 weeks; peak #1) 28 NEW Crystal Fighters - Wave VIDEO 29 23 Friends - The Way (4 weeks; peak #20) 30 4 Kelly Clarkson - Underneath The Tree (5 weeks; peak #4) 31 26 Paper Crows - Anomaly (4 weeks; peak #16) 32 40 Grouplove - Ways To Go (2 weeks; PEAK) 33 NEW David and Olivia - Key To My Heart VIDEO 34 NEW Lily Savage - Tough At The Top FAN VIDEO Ian Levine track from 1988 again! Yes, it's Paul O'Grady in his drag queen alter ego that shot him to fame. This track is an utter rip-off of Always On My Mind by Pet Shop Boys (and also has a part like It's A Sin in the middle eight) though O'Grady has a certain charm. Levine trying to make him a popstar like Divine didn't quite happen! You can also buy this as a download (as you can Desiderata, too).
35 27 Fenech-Soler - In Our Blood (3 weeks; peak #25) 36 33 Little Boots - Strangers (Nocturnal Version) (6 weeks; peak #9) 37 37 Tricky with Francesca Belmonte - Hey Love (2 weeks; peak #37) 38 24 Say Lou Lou - Better In The Dark (8 weeks; peak #17) 39 NEW David and Olivia - Every Now N' Then (I Could Use A Friend) VIDEO 40 29 Beyonce - No Angel (3 weeks; peak #29) 41 NEW Olivia May - Recipe VIDEO 42 RE Choir Of Young Believers - Hollow Talk (Theme from The Bridge) (6 weeks; peak #31) 43 30 Beyonce - Pretty Hurts (3 weeks; peak #28) 44 28 Banks - Before I Ever Met You (3 weeks; peak #23) 45 16 Future Of Forestry - O Come All Ye Faithful (3 weeks; peak #16) 46 32 Ed Sheeran - I See Fire (4 weeks; peak #32) 47 NEW Kim Wilde - Song For Beryl VIDEO 48 34 Beyonce with Frank Ocean - Superpower (2 weeks; peak #34) 49 38 Beyonce - Rocket (2 weeks; peak #38) 50 43 Lorde - No Better (3 weeks; peak #32)

MY CHART for JANUARY 12th 2014:
1 1 Beyonce - XO VIDEO (5 weeks; peak #1) 4 WEEKS AT #1!
I failed to point out last week that her 11 hits in one week was a joint record with rock band Skillet who only spanned positions 5-59 in November 2008, Beyonce managed to get them all in the top 40 - a first. She is also the first to have 5 out of the top 6 - though The Birthday Massacre managed the entire top 4 in one week the previous November.
2 2 Beyonce - Jealous (5 weeks; peak #2) 3 3 The Blockheads - Boys Will Be Boys (3 weeks; peak #3) 4 4 Beyonce - Haunted (2 weeks; peak #4) 5 5 Beyonce with Drake - Mine (2 weeks; peak #5) 6 6 Beyonce - No Angel (5 weeks; peak #6) 7 NEW Paul Thomas Saunders - Let The Carousel Display You and I AUDIO STREAM VIDEO / Santa Muerte's Lightning and Flare / The Trail Remains Unseen / A Lunar Veterans Guide To Re-entry (Descartes Highlands EP) EP STREAM
Progressive "indie" singer/ musician whose new single is at 11... This is a 2012 release. It may be former UKMix member Beren Reid under another name!
8 9 Chloe Howl - Rumour (reissue) (4 weeks; peak #5) 9 NEW Nina Persson - Animal Heart VIDEO
She's back! With her first actual solo album (not counting A Camp which was a project under a group name). From one Animal Heart to another...
10 NEW Leo The Lion - Only For One Night VIDEO
Leo was vocalist on two albums by The Streets and toured with them and had a top 30 hit helping out Kano. Since leaving The Streets he's struggled and is now on The Voice UK after sending future coach Kylie into a quivering orgasmic mess on TV! Now trading under his real name Leo Ihenacha, this debut solo album as Leo The Lion came out last year completely unnoticed and ignored by the media, the only single from it came out the year before and is an old-fashioned (well, if 90's / early 00's is "old") pop-urban stomper with an allstar video (David Harewood, Tamer Hassan, Martin Offiah) that supposedly was "to be continued..." . Maybe now it will be - with Kylie as guest!
11 NEW Paul Thomas Saunders - Good Women VIDEO More instant and overtly synth, this new single is on XFM's playlist.
12 10 Phildel - Comfort Me (4 weeks; peak #4) 13 NEW Beth McCarthy - Mr Cliche / Lucy's Song (It's Okay To Cry) Northern Light EP STREAM (go to track 3) This folk girl from York iis also on The Voice UK. I listened to all her singles / videos and this is what i liked enough to chart. The second track is about a girl who lost her mother.
14 7 Katy Perry - Unconditionally (6 weeks; peak #1) 15 13 Katy B - Crying For No Reason (4 weeks; peak #13) ^^
16 12 Beyonce with Frank Ocean - Superpower (4 weeks; [peak #12) 17 NEW Magistrates - When We Are Apart VIDEO Thanks to Ivan for informing us this great synth band are back! (I will not denigrate bands by calling them indie, if something is over 70% synth, it's synth! "Indie" is a much misused term these days)
18 8 Keep Shelly In Athens - Oostende (6 weeks; peak #2) 19 11 Beyonce - Blow (4 weeks; peak #11) 20 18 Diana Vickers - Mad At Me (8 weeks; peak #2) 21 14 Bright Light Bright Light - In Your Care / An Open Heart / Same Dream / Movement In The Dark (In Your Care EP) (8 weeks; peak #1) 22 17 David and Olivia - Finally Fine (3 weeks; peak #15) 23 16 Beyonce - Rocket (4 weeks; peak #16) 24 21 Choir Of Young Believers - Hollow Talk (Theme from The Bridge) (8 weeks; peak #21) 25 19 Olivia May - Honey (3 weeks; peak #16) 26 15 Electric Lady Lab - Open Doors (10 weeks; peak #3) 27 20 Beyonce - Pretty Hurts (5 weeks; peak #20) 28 26 Beyonce with Jay Z - Drunk In Love (2 weeks; peak #26) 29 22 Sia with The Weeknd and Diplo - Elastic Heart (8 weeks; peak #2) 30 24 Warpaint - Love Is To Die (4 weeks; peak #18) 31 29 Echosmith - Cool Kids (13 weeks; peak #1) 32 NEW Crystal Fighters - Love Natural VIDEO 33 30 Crystal Fighters - Wave (3 weeks; peak #28) 34 27 Charlotte OC - Colour My Heart / Hangover / Cut The Rope / Stolen Car (Colour My Heart EP) (8 weeks; peak #6) 35 23 Andy Hunter with Beth Bullock - Spiral (6 weeks; peak #12) 36 31 The Blockheads - Express Yourself (6 weeks; peak #21) 37 36 Paper Crows - Anomaly (6 weeks; peak #16) 38 32 Beyonce - Blue (2 weeks; peak #32) 39 25 Chvrches - Lies (22 weeks; peak #5) 40 33 Dan Le Sac vs Scroobius Pip - You Will See Me (5 weeks; peak #17)

MY CHART JANUARY 19th 2014:
1 NEW Lily Allen - Air Balloon AUDIO STREAM VIDEO
Far better than the yes-it's-accurate-but-it's-still-crap-modern-urban-pop-musically Hard Out Here and the-wet-performed-to-formula-for TV-advert cover of Keane, the first proper single from her comeback album is a Betty Boo-like nutty pop delight. Her first #1 on my chart since The Fear and her second in total. Although i went off The Fear by the time it was eventually released, hopefully this won't suffer the same decline.
2 1 Beyonce - XO (6 weeks; peak #1) 3 NEW Nina Nesbitt - Selfies VIDEO
Sitting very nicely next to Lily as the other high entry is this stormer of a pop tune! And she beats last week's Nina by 6 places! Less of the Sheerans and more of the Allens / Nashes / Doolittles would be preferable from Nesbitt.
4 2 Beyonce - Jealous (6 weeks; peak #2) 5 4 Beyonce - Haunted (3 weeks; peak #4) 6 6 Beyonce - No Angel (6 weeks; peak #6) 3 WEEKS AT #6! 7 3 The Blockheads - Boys Will Be Boys (4 weeks; peak #3) 8 5 Beyonce with Drake - Mine (3 weeks; peak #5) 9 9 Nina Persson - Animal Heart (2 weeks; peak #9) 10 11 Paul Thomas Saunders - Good Women (2 weeks; PEAK) 11 7 Paul Thomas Saunders - Let The Carousel Display You and I / Santa Muerte's Lightning and Flare / The Trail Remains Unseen / A Lunar Veterans Guide To Re-entry (Descartes Highlands EP) (2 weeks; peak #7) 12 NEW Boards Of Canada - Kid For Today AUDIO / Amo Bishop Roden / Zoetrope / In A Beautiful Place Out In The Country (IABPOITC EP) EP STREAM With most of their material now on stream sites i can catch up on the things i didn't manage to find physically. This EP is from 2000. Kid For Today was used in a UK BMW advert. There is also a 1998 Peel Session which i decided not to chart.
13 NEW Foster The People - Coming Of Age "Mural Time-Lapse" VIDEO Save us from false prophets Haim and Bastille and Imagine Dragons! O thou STILL worthy of praise!
14 10 Leo The Lion - Only For One Night (2 weeks; peak #10) 15 15 Katy B - Crying For No Reason (5 weeks; peak #13) 16 8 Chloe Howl - Rumour (reissue) (5 weeks; peak #5) 17 NEW Clare Maguire - Black Coffee AUDIO STREAM VIDEO / Paper Thin / Whenever You Want It AUDIO STREAM VIDEO "Clare Maguire" EP STREAM I charted the first two songs last year when she debuted them online, not knowing if they'd get a single release (Black Coffee got to #37 but is now my lead choice, Paper Thin got to #15), the third song is brand new, there's also a Joni Mitchell cover that i'm not keen on.
18 13 Beth McCarthy - Mr Cliche / Lucy's Song (It's Okay To Cry) (2 weeks; peak #13) 19 16 Beyonce with Frank Ocean - Superpower (5 weeks; [peak #12) 20 17 Magistrates - When We Are Apart (2 weeks; peak #17) 21 12 Phildel - Comfort Me (5 weeks; peak #4) 22 NEW Jennifer Hudson with TI - I Can't Describe (The Way I Feel) AUDIO STREAM VIDEO Hudson's first ever hit on my chart. MY ALBUM CHART JANUARY 19th 2014:
1 1 Beyonce - Beyonce (6 weeks; peak #1) 3 WEEKS AT #1! 2 NEW Suicide - Suicide: The Second Album
STREAM (2007 release with bonus tracks) Hugely influential techno-punk duo who Springsteen has covered on his new album - Dream Baby Dream from this 1980 release that originally had no clear title. Veering away from the hard edge of the debut, this set embraces disco and pop and is described by some as proto-house music. Literally 70% of all the acclaimed bands you know of would not exist if not for this group.
3 NEW Suicide - Suicide
STREAM (2013 release with bonus live tracks) The 1977 debut. If you want to know just how hated they were by the punk-loving public, check out the track(s) 23 Minutes Over Brussels where the hostile Elvis Costello crowd had them removed from the stage. They were so "bad" they caused riots - this is years before The Jesus and Mary Chain incited such responses! en.wikipedia.org/wiki/23_Minutes_Over_Brussels
4 10 Boards Of Canada - Tomorrow's Harvest (12 weeks; peak #1) 5 9 Diana Vickers - Music To Make Boys Cry (12 weeks; peak #1) 6 NEW Burial - Burial STREAM 2006 debut. Sorry, Kuba, this is not in the same league as BOC. And it's a mistake to compare them in the first place. Burial is based on dubstep grooves and existing songs, BOC are based on samples from less-known sources that aren't song-based and the beats are less important than the mood. Burial take you to the gutter of the ghetto, BOC take you to the edge of the universe and the heart of religious cults. It's a much more exciting journey with more sights and smells for your money.
7 NEW Choir Of Young Believers - Rhine Gold STREAM Latest album by Danish power-indie project - 2012.
8 NEW Burial - Untrue STREAM 2007. Basically a load of soul tunes thrown into a wind tunnel. I'm not saying it's bad but it's nothing amazing.
9 2 Paul Thomas Saunders - Lilac and Wisteria (mini-album) (2 weeks; peak #2) 10 NEW Choir Of Young Believers - This Is For The White In Your Eyes STREAM The one with Hollow Talk - 2009.
11 12 Miracle - Mercury (9 weeks; peak #1) 12 RE Plumb - Need You Now (12 weeks; peak #1) 13 NEW Bruce Springsteen - High Hopes STREAM Features Tom Morello on several tracks.
14 NEW Switchfoot - Fading West STREAM Yet another hard rock band that has ditched the guitars for synth. This isn't bad, it's just so derivative, trying to get a Coldplay-ish sound.
15 5 Leo The Lion - Big Trouble In London (2 weeks; peak #5)
