I like the early stuff and I like how they've developed as well. Still a top band.

Anyone who watched their Glastonbury headlining set last night would realise they have improved significantly as a live act compared to when they first headlined the festival in 2007.
The irony of their debut album is whilst it undoubtedly contained their strongest set of songs it was ultimately let down by their (lack of) musicianship and weedy production of that record ... Two things which have improved significantly on their latter output, even if inevitably the quality of songwriting has not been as prolific.
Put it this way I seriously doubt in the next two days Mumford & Sons and the "Strolling Bones" will come close to that performance.
For me they are neck and neck with Elbow as Britain's Greatest Band of the 21st Century ... certainly better than Muse and Coldplay.

arctic monkeys song writing and music output the last 5 year has nose dived almost on par with mcfly. not sure how that constitutes being miles better than muse. muse have released 6 amazing albums and have been the best live band for over a decade. arctic mokeys have 2 great albums and one glasto show, they need atleast 3 more amazing albums and keep up them kinda live shows for a decade to be even on par with muse. arctic monkeys were outdone by chic last night

I personally don't think AM have released anything less than a 7/10 album ; whilst Muse have only released one album better than 7/10 (Black Holes and Revelations). Muse are miles too prog rock and bombastic for me; and their drop off in quality in their last three albums is far more dramatic than AM's over their entire output. But then again I think The Jam, The Clash & The Smiths are much better than Queen, Deep Purple & Yes.

I agree with you on your cores for the AM albums, nothing less than a 7 for me either. I dont have any Muse albums to pass opinion on, but have on the whole loved their singles.

Thought they were really good last night although mainly because they played so much stuff on the first album and didn't do too much later stuff which helped. They have always been a good live band, but I don't think they were ready to headline festivals in 2007 and I saw them at Reading in 09 I think it was and they were boring then as well. Their gigs around the first album though were amazing.

Should add that Alex's stupid accent during the set made him look a bit of a dick.

He did also take the p*ss out of himself at one point when he got them to sing happy birthday, plus he mentioned it afterwards, of how he puts on that persona for the gig, I think his tongue is firmly in his cheek!

the last arctic monkeys song i can remember actually liking was "don't sit down 'cause i've moved your chair".
this just sounds like a re-working of "R U mine?" - neither is a bad song but i think i preferred the other one to this.
oh and i actually really like the video!
