The plan is to take one at a time from the list, once an artist has been chosen, he cant be chosen again, until we've gone round our reviewers. We'll start a sep. thread for each album and it's reviews.

Sounds like it could be good, count me in.
I noticed there wasn't many females on the list too, the only album I could think of that was missing was Jagged Little Pill.

If we're doing this in the retro lounge then many of the suggested albums by women don't really count.

for blur I would have the album blur or parklife I guess, their first big album and their best album (although everyoes opinion differs)
and from shirebloggers list I would consider these two to be retro/classic/very good albums that I would be interested in checking out fully
Dido - No Angel Kylie Minogue - Fever

If we're doing this in the retro lounge then many of the suggested albums by women don't really count. perhaps it should be moved to 'music', in order to encourage more participation? as we've noted in this thread already, 'classic' doesn't necessarily mean 'retro', and i think having a bunch of albums from the 21st century would be good.

Queen (if anyone can suggest one) i'd say 'a night at the opera' - it was a huge album for them and also is a good choice for this list since only a couple of the really well-known songs are on there (including 'bohemian rhapsody').

It could very easily be moved to Music although I would still be inclined to argue that an album should be at least five years old before it can be considered a classic. That would allow more of the female list in but still exclude albums such as 21. As for the Queen album, I would agree that A Night At The Opera is the obvious choice as the album that really saw their career take off.

^ i think i'd agree with that. '21' is a little too recent; we need to be sure of an album's lasting impact before we can really call it a classic, and the two-and-a-half years since '21' came out probably isn't long enough.
something like 'back to black' is a great example of a recent album from the females-only list that's well worth the 'classic' label (admittedly bolstered by amy's untimely death, but even so...)

We've got such a long list of possible albums, I don't think we need to get too hung up on what should or should not qualify. I think giving the nominated lead reviewer a wide scope to choose the album will help make this concept a success - an endless stream of (say) BritPop albums would quickly turn off a lot of people. Obviously, the better known the album, the more people who will participate, and therefore the more likely it is that Classic Album Reviews will become a Haven institution.
I agree that this should be moved to "Music", to ensure a wide spectrum of participants. I'm now quite eager to see Andy's first selection, and get down to preparing my own review.

Have we abandoned the Reviews forum then?

Good suggestions there, I'll add some in. I'm happy for it to stay here, the idea started as I'm listening to an old album, we can always link up in music, and get more traffic that way. I have to admit I'd forgotten the reviews sub forum was still there.
