This was excellent, but after one number 31 hit, never troubled the chart ever again.

This was excellent, but after one number 31 hit, never troubled the chart ever again. I was in America when this and I'm Not Over were around and they were *everywhere* on US radio, so it was weird to come back home and find out they were pretty much unknown here except for a Cher Lloyd collaboration (a very good one though!)

From the year music forgot. They were not a family and none of them was called Ritchie. They took their name from producer Richie [sic] Rome. And were not a real group. They were a studio creation put together by Jacques Morali, who used the lessons from this to create The Village People.
This was ahead of its time. May have been a bigger hit in the medley craze of 1981.

^ I bought 'The Best Disco In Town', it's still a good song. The record also did better than some of the songs it features, including 'Fly Robin Fly' (Silver Convention), 'TSOP' (MFSB) (both tracks were US number 1s though) and 'Brazil' (originally sung by The Ritchie Family themselves). The B side was titled 'The Best Disco In Town Part 2' and was more of the same. The B side includes a snippet of the disco-delightful 'Lady Bump' which was a massive hit in continental Europe in 1975 for Penny McLean (one of the Silver Convention ladies) but which totally flopped in the UK. Penny's live 1975 appearance on some TV programme has to be seen to be believed. The vocal scream in the chorus could strip paint from walls!

Yep, I’d completely forgotten that one.

Twitter reminded me of this tune and a half this morning. Completely forgotten and bloody good!

Oh yeah, I remember liking that when it was out. I liked Safe From Harm as well.
Got me thinking about random dance tracks from the early 2000's I used to love, this one was the first to spring to mind.

Matchbox. The band The Stray Cats could have been. Their constant use of the Confederate battle flag means they are a bit infra dig these days...

Culture Beat's fourth single was the slower 'World In Your Hands'. It is no 'Mr Vain' but is pleasant enough.

Number 45 in 1993 and other than this home made video, I can’t seem to find it anywhere!

The The 'Dogs of Lust' has a nice harmonica in it.

Bush followed up 'Swallowed' with 'Greedy Fly' which was not quite so big.

Silver sun - I’ll See You Around
....and then after two Top 30 hits in 1998, they disappeared.

Starting out as a backing group for Lennie Peters, who would take a sesquidecade before topping the charts with Dianne Lee, and when Peters tried his luck solo, guitarist Mike Felix took over lead vox and they called themselves the Migil Four. My-gil. After Mike Felix and bassist Gilbert Lucas. Adding a saxophonist turned them into the Migil Five and under that name they got their two chart successes.

Sarah Connor - Bounce Top 15 in 2003. I’m sure she had another hit, but I fail to remember what it was - popped up on my iTunes when I was doing some light housework today. Clearly not forgotten in her native Germany with ELEVEN albums. Paul - who was that dreadful Big Brother contestant that covered it? I want to say Shabnam, but I’m sure that was “Shout”.
