The number 2's from 1981
Please rate the following out of 10. If you don't know a song, please look it up on Youtube before voting.
I'll tot the scores up at the end to see which is Havens favourite #2 of 1981. I'll probably leave it open for a few months, to make sure we get everyone's votes.
n.b. Where the single is listed as a double A side, I have gone for the "lead" of the two.

It was really the summer holiday come-down. I remember it was all over the place that August - people came back home and looked it out. And couldn't find it, so a bunch of session musicians made a soundalike copy. So they bought that instead. The original - by The Electronicas - only scraped the thirty.

The Birdie song is ok although it repeats the same two tunes again and again far too many times. That's a change I guess from the three on that list that move from one tune to another including the wonderful instrumental "Hooked On Classics".
I expected it to get bad votes compared to O Superman which I guess will be split between those who think it's a work of genius and those who remember it was the most nauseating 6 or 7 minutes or however long it was when it was played on the countdown. Fortunately its chart life was short (unlike the length of the track).
Didn't she end up marrying Lou Reed?

Yeh think John Peel thought it was genius didn't it top the festive. 50 that year or pretty close to as 10 year old I thought it was bonkers nonsense It is bonkers, but it is also wonderfully eccentric. Remember, the Festive 50 was voted by a large number of his listeners, it wasn't one man's selection. Of course, many of those listeners were bonkers eccentrics, but that was part of the charm of John Peel's show.

Not a stellar year and unfortunately not one of Cliff's finest moments for me.

One of many reasons to be thankful to the great man.
