Day 12:
ANTHONY McGILL 8-13 SHAUN MURPHY BARRY HAWKINS 13-12 NEIL ROBERTSON DING JUNHUI 4-13 JUDD TRUMP STUART BINGHAM 13-9 RONNIE O'SULLIVAN
Semi-finals: Shaun Murphy v Barry Hawkins Judd Trump v Stuart Bingham
Not massively surprised by Ronnie being knocked out as he hasn't looked comfortable all tournament, though I thought it would be Trump that did it, rather than Bingham. For me, Robertson going out is a bigger shock, even though Hawkins has a good Crucible record. Trump very much the favourite to win it now and I think Murphy is the only one who can stop him.
Robertson's exit this evening means Mark Selby is guaranteed to finish the season as world #1.

Here's hoping for a Trump win. He's been playing some great snooker again, so he would be a worthy winner.

I'd be surprised if it wasn't either Murphy or Trump who won the title on their current form.

SHAUN MURPHY 17-9 BARRY HAWKINS JUDD TRUMP 16-17 STUART BINGHAM
A final very few expected but Bingham has been outstanding throughout the tournament. It would be a great story if he went and won it at the age of 38, having been a pro for 20 years.

Murphy should be a lot fresher than Bingham, at the start at least.

9-8 to Murphy overnight. Really good final so far.

I'm a few minutes behind, but what an extraordinary 31st frame that was.

Terrific final and what a deserving winner Stuart Bingham is. 20 years a pro and becomes the 3rd oldest winner.

Even by the high standards set by snooker players, Shaun Murphy was a wonderfully gracious loser tonight.

Indeed. He's had a bad press in the past due to certain actions (which he himself has said he regrets) but he's always gracious in defeat and very much respects the traditions and etiquette of the game.

The UK Championship will be the next BBC tournament in November but the Champion of Champions will be on ITV4 a couple of weeks earlier. All the tournaments before then should be on Eurosport.

Q School 2 continues this weekend. Reanne Evans has been knocked out again, in case anyone's keeping track. Meanwhile, the first tournament of the 2015-16 season will be the World Cup, starting on 15th June and taking place in Wuxi in China instead of the usual Wuxi Classic ranking event. The tournament will feature 24 pairs representing 23 nations, drawn into 4 groups of 6. The top 2 teams in each group will progress to the knockout stages. GROUP A China A (Ding Junhui & Xiao Guodong) Norway (Kurt Maflin & Anita Maflin) Singapore (Marvin Lim Chun Kiat & KK Chan) India (Aditya Mehta & Pankaj Advani) Malta (Tony Drago & Alex Borg) Austria (Andreas Ploner & Paul Schopf) GROUP B Hong Kong (Marco Fu & Au Chi Wai) Scotland (John Higgins & Stephen Maguire) Iran (Hossein Vafaei Ayouri & Ehsan Heydari Nezhad) Malaysia (Thor Chuan Leong & Mohd Reza Hassan) Brazil (Igor Figueiredo & Itaro Santos) Belgium (Luca Brecel & Thomas Skalski) GROUP C Australia (Neil Robertson & Vinnie Calabrese) Wales (Mark Williams & Michael White) Pakistan (Hamza Akbar & Muhammad Sajjad) Qatar (Ahmed Saif & Ali Alobaidaly) Poland (Mateusz Baranowski & Adam Stefanow) Northern Ireland (Gerard Greene & Joe Swail) GROUP D England (Mark Selby & Stuart Bingham) Republic of Ireland (Ken Doherty & Fergal O'Brien) China B (Zhou Yuelong & Yan Bingtao) Thailand (Dechawat Poomjaeng & Thepchaiyah Un-Nooh) United Arab Emirates (Khalid Alkamali & Mohamed Shehab) Germany (Lukas Kleckers & Felix Frede) The teams have been determined by world rankings, with invitations being used to complete the field, where there aren't enough ranked players or where people (Mark Allen) have chosen not to play. One player to watch out for is Anita Maflin. She's the wife of Kurt Maflin and the reason he qualifies for Norwegian nationality. She's a player in her own right and has won tournaments across Scandinavia, playing against men and women. The Chinese pair of Ding and Xiao will take some beating on home soil but with the top 2 players in the world, England are likely to start as favourites.

The final Q School places were won the other day with James Weston and Paul Davison of England, and Gareth Allen and Duane Jones of Wales earning two year tour cards.
On a negative note, the WPBSA announced today that Irish amateur player John Sutton has been banned for six years for breaching rules relating to corruption and misuse of inside information regarding an International Championship qualifying match he lost 6-0 to Jamie Burnett last year.
