don't believe in revisionism liked them before they broke in UK , nobody slagged them off until they got too big its always the way, it became fashionable to hate on them see also Razorlight. Their first three albums are great then they lost it. Far worse bands in that genre than them just they are one of the most famous, rather they were number one in the charts than what we have now. Honestly I could listen 30 pop punk/ numetal bands that are way worse. you would rate them all 0 probably but I would rate them from 3 to 0. Example one Drowning Pool and they are still not close to be thw absolute worst, their are many layers lower yet.

I utterly detest that sort of nu-metal - then again I can (just) remember punk the first time around and then grunge. But there was something that was so calculated about Limp Bizkit et al. Even to the asinine mis-spelling of their name. It was more "there is a market for this sort of stuff, so let's fill it" rather than "this is an artistic statement we need to make".

Nope disagree they were around years before nu-metal was even a word as were The Offspring , the band that fills what you say are Linkin Park who would probably have been a boy band if nu-metal hadn't go big. But Linkin Park were awesome even if they were manufactured a little.
Really stuff like this doesn't bother me, songs are sounds I like to listen to can't be bothered with all the Haters and hipsters , if you like something listen to it if you don't don't.
I can't say I detest an entire genre of music I find something I like everywhere
Guess I try to find something I like rather than find things I hate different PoV

been thinking about this all night, yes the guy is a tw*t, he is a fat bloke that dresses like a teenager, the music only got big as UK indie was in the doldrums. But it was the media that hated a jock rock band from the US getting number one singles so the attack on nu-metal was swift and effective. Saying all that 'Rollin' is still a tune sorry. Every band have one good song in them and this was theirs

I have no idea whether the media liked Limp Bizkit et al, I haven't read the NME since about 1993. I just call it as I see it.

620 The Open – Elevation 619 Velvet Revolver – Slither 618 Ñu – Disco Hurts
This band were and are quite big in Europe this was the song that could have broke them in Uk basically its No Doubt.
617 The Killers – Spaceman 616 Paramore – Decode 615 New Found Glory – My Friends Over You 614 Jim Noir – My Patch
A real oddity this which somehow got stuck in my brain for ages, its what I would call a NM type song not sure what it did in Neils chart but I'm sure it must have been big.
613 JJ72 – Oxygen 612 Thursday – Standing On the Edge of Summer 611 Idlewild – Little Discourage
Have to feature this video as it was filmed on the Cromarty Firth where I grew up.

Ok now we are in the top 600 that means nearly every song could be a top 50 of that year so top tunes all the way so will feature more videos and chat.
600 The White Stripes – My Doorbell
Love this video more than the song I think.
599 Kylie Minogue – Can't Get You Out Of My Head
and really do I even need to show this video, its imprinted in our minds forever so I will save bandwidth and skip it. 598 Gary Jules, Michael Andrews - Mad World (Feat. Michael Andrews)
We all know this one of course the dark slow version of the Tears For Fears classic from 'Donnie Darko' and a shock number one.
597 Hot Hot Heat – Goodnight Goodnight
I loved Hot Hot Heat they were kind of in the shadow of The Killers but they had so many great quirky indie pop songs like this one.
596 The Hives – Two-Timing Touch and Broken Bones
By now we knew what we were getting with The Hives it was just a matter of how long we could keep listening to them but for now they were still excellent.

595 Glassjaw – Cosmopolitan Blood Loss
Some people think emo was not a very inventive genre that was just poor little rich boys with ridiculous hair, too much make up and cuts obviously have never heard Glassjaw. They were amazing live and even their side project Head Automatica had more new ideas than anyone.
594 Band of Horses – The Funeral
Their debut single and they went on to be one of the finest US bands around they have more to come.
593 The Wombats – Kill The Director
They were one of the best of the new breed of major signed bands that wanted big hits with an indie sound as we know this eventually ended badly for everyone but this is a good single.
592 Green Day – 21st Century Breakdown
One of their first songs not to chart but we are into 2009 so hardly surprising as rock was in decline big time chart wise but generally we were starting to tire of them a bit unfortunately.
591 Goldfrapp – Train
Their first top 40 hit and the start of their successful glam influenced era.
