********************64 Green Day - Holiday/Boulevard Of Broken Dreams ************************
We now have a double A side, both songs are brilliant. A very political record but it works if you have the tunes to go with it. First the power punk pop of 'Holiday' then the amazing ballad of 'Boulevard Of Broken Dreams'. To be fair Boulevard is the better song and maybe should be higher. It reached #5 in 2005.

********************63 Foo Fighters – All My Life************************
More rock now, this was the first single of their 4th album 'One By One' and it has a distinct Queens of The Stone Age influence, pretty heavy but as catchy as ever as well. It reached #5 in 2002.

********************62 Filter-The Only Way Is The Wrong Way************************ I so nearly entered this in Rock Idol. This is the biggest album track on the list finishing in a very high position. This was a great lost single I have no idea why Filter didn't release this brilliant power ballad. They have more to come though. From their third album 'The Amalgamut'. Only a lyric video

********************61 The Darkness – Love Is Only A Feeling************************
If Filter was a modern power ballad, this is how you do it classic rock style. This is really too low as I think it is fair to say its the best ballad of the 00s. Although Blink 182 still to come may argue. This reached #5 in 2004.

********************60 Linkin Park – One Step Closer***********************
I seem to have a thing for debut singles. Highest song for Linkin Park on the list and it is possible if I redid this list they would have more songs and be much higher. One of the oldest songs on the list it reached #24 in 2000. Definitely one of the best nu-metal bands.

Which groups have the most number of songs in your top 1000 ? Biffy Clyro 11 Idlewild 10 Coldplay 10 Kasabian 10 The Strokes 9 Doves 9 Editors 9 Muse 9 The Killers 9 Do you include album tracks in your top or only singles + official videos ? Three acts will have 10 or more songs in my top list of 2000s. I will include only singles + songs with official videos like Marina & Diamonds - Seventeen. For Lithuanian acts I use a factor of TV performance / radio airplay, because this country didn't have the singles market and the official videos also is very rare thing, especially for the previous decades.

I do allow some album tracks but I set a limit of 10 per artist , Biffy managed to break that

In what sense are Holiday and Boulevard of Broken Dreams a double a-side? Boulevard was no. 5 in the charts in December 2004, Holiday was Number 11 in March 2005

Ah, ok, no worries. Thought I was missing something. Didn’t Guns N’ Roses once make the top 10 with a song which had been the b-side to their previous single? I wondered if there was something like that going on.

and that leads us nicely to
********************59 Green Day – American Idiot***********************
Title track from their 2004 and their biggest hit peaking at #3. And yeh I do prefer 'BOBD" after playing them so close together but this song had a huge impact so it gets highest placing.

********************58 Arcade Fire – Rebellion (Lies)******************************
Another band that would be higher if i redid this list today shocking that their biggest song on the list is only #58. Another album that got me through a dark time don't know how many times I played it that year. 'Rebellion Lies' is still their biggest hit single in the UK peaking at #19 in 2005.

********************57 Panic! At The Disco – I Write Sins Not Tragedies******************************
I though there was only one more emo song to come but I missed the highest appearance from the big 3. Panic! always made such flamboyant videos which this was no exception. This reached #25 in 2006 and peaked at #7 in the US.

Another highest placing this time for the biggest Chili Pepper song on the list. Their biggest hit in the UK peaking at 2 in 2002.

********************55 Friendly Fires – Paris******************************
I said cow bells would be back. Into the upper end of the chart there is not many acts who have never had a top 40 hit but sadly Friendly Fires are one of them. They still have one song to come. Unbelievably this didn't even make the top 100!!

********************54 Klaxons - Golden Skans******************************
More indie dance now with by far the best single from The Klaxons. This actually finished as by #3 song of 2007. It reached #7 in 2007.

********************53 The Raconteurs – Steady, As She Goes******************************
This was my number one year end track of 2006 so it really should be higher, it was #18 on the early list. Beating all but one song by The White Stripes I just loved this nu-wave style track. It peaked at #4 in 2006.

********************52 Evanescence – Bring Me To Life******************************
Now an absolute classic which I have never tired of, one of the best UK number ones of the 00s. Its a brilliant mix of operatic vocals with nu-metal and its just a brilliant catchy song so infectious. It also has a really cool video. they are actually back in my charts at the moment after a long absence.
