3rd: INTO THE GROOVE :: 186 pts (7.8 av) Madonna's best selling UK single is Haven's 3rd favourite. It won the second Heat, and picked up 10 points from 7 people in the Final. And this makes it the most popular single here from Madonna's first 5 years of chart action.

2nd: FROZEN :: 195 pts (8.1 av) A full 9 points clear of 3rd place, with a maximum of 10 points from 9 people. Only 2 people gave Frozen less than 6 points. And it is, therefore, Madonna's most popular single at Haven from the 1990s.

1st: LIKE A PRAYER :: 208 pts (8.7 av) Romping to victory, by a 13 point margin, is the title track from 1989's Like A Prayer album. It scored more 10 points than any other single, from 10 people. And it was the only track not to be the least favourite of someone at Haven. Indeed, only 3 people didn't give this 8, 9 or 10 points. Ladies and gentlemen, thank you for taking part in the Haven Madonna Rate. I give you our winner, Like A Prayer.

Great summaries Shireblogger - fascinating results! Really surprised Holiday is so low.

Worthy winner (even though it is between Vogue and Ray of Light in my heart) - thanks so much for all your work pulling this together!

"Into The Groove" was the highest rated that I liked. Not too keen on the Top 2... they're good but there are better for me. Anyway great polling all in all. Thanks Shireblogger - was fun! Who's next?

Great rate, even though most of my favourites (Borderline, You'll see & Crazy for you) are way too far down the list. I can't believe anybody would give Crazy for you a 0.

Thanks for doing this, Shireblogger - it was a lot of fun, and great to be reminded of some of the older singles which I didn't all know very well I guess I like Madonna more than I realised: I gave 6 songs in the rate either a 9 or a 10, though they had very varying fortunes - Rain (5th-favourite) and Don't Tell Me (2nd-favourite) did terribly, but I guess I'm not too surprised, especially about Don't Tell Me which isn't very 'Madonna'. Holiday (6th-favourite) bombing was a bit of a shock. Ray Of Light (3rd-favourite) did a lot better, but I'm genuinely surprised that it was surpassed by Frozen, which I found hadn't aged as well as I expected (although I still liked it enough to give it a 7). I'm sad about Live To Tell, which is my favourite Madonna song by a country mile, missing out on the top 3 by one point (I should have docked one from Into The Groove ) - but 4th is still pretty respectable. And Like A Prayer is a pretty incredible song, and my highest-rated 9, so overall I'm pleased with how the results have turned out.

Thanks, Shireblogger , this was fun and interesting. I'm not so surprised at "Holiday" falling low than one might have initially expected -perhaps it has been overplayed (and released so many ties), that the limitations of its charms have become apparent. Really pleased, again, to see "Oh Father" do so well - it really would have made a better "third single from LaP" than "Dear Jessie" in the UK, as it was elsewhere, and really pleased to see "Frozen" do so well too. Good and not entirely unexpected no 1, too.

I am so surprised Crazy For You isn't higher, it's my favourite Madonna song ever.

Like A Prayer was one of only 2 songs to get the maximum 10 from me

Thank you Shireblogger, not an unsurprising win, it is by far on paper her best track. If I had to pick my all time Madonna favourites it would be:
3) Borderline 2) Open Your Heart 1) You'll See
Album tracks:
3) She's Not Me 2) I Want You 1) Nothing Fails
Although, the last three change all the time... Albums:
3) True Blue 2) Something To Remember 1) Like A Prayer
Worst track: Hey You, or perhaps I'm Going Bananas.

the top 5 are all 10s for me, so cannot complain, although Live to Tell is my ultimate fav of hers

Maybe we could do one with album tracks, and not released as a single, off all her albums

Did we do a Michael Jackson rate already? I have a vague memory that we might have, but can't find the thread if we did...
Hard to think of that many other retro acts universally liked as much as Madonna to be honest.

I wouldn't mind an MJ one. I also have a vague recollection of a Michael Jackson rate, but it must have been a long time ago. If you'd like to host one greendemon or meister, please go ahead. I'll definitely take part.

Michael Jackson would be good - Kylie, maybe? ABBA would be too quick. Rihanna has plenty to choose from, but perhaps not retro enough. I don't think we've done a Beatles one for a while.
