From BBC News:
TV and radio presenter Chris Evans will be the new Top Gear presenter, the BBC has announced.
Evans said he was "thrilled" to get the job, describing the motoring show as his "favourite programme of all time".
"I promise I will do everything I possibly can to respect what has gone on before and take the show forward," he added.
He will replace Jeremy Clarkson, who was sacked after punching a producer while on location.
Evans, a car enthusiast, has signed a three-year deal to lead an all-new Top Gear line-up.
He said the programme was "created by a host of brilliant minds who love cars and understand how to make the massively complicated come across as fun, devil-may-care and effortless".
"When in fact of course, it's anything but and that's the genius of Top Gear's global success," he added.
Controller of BBC Two and BBC Four Kim Shillinglaw said: "I am so delighted that Chris will be presenting the next series of Top Gear.
"His knowledge of and passion for cars are well-known and combined with his sheer inventiveness and cheeky unpredictability, he is the perfect choice to take our much-loved show into the future.
"Chris is a huge fan of Top Gear and has great respect for the craft and work ethic of one of the best production teams in the world.
"He knows the phenomenal attention to detail it takes to make a single sequence of Top Gear, let alone a whole series. He is already full of brilliant ideas and I can't wait for him to get started."
Production on the new series of Top Gear will start in the next few weeks and more information will be announced in due course.

The last half hour was effectively his Top Gear audition anyway.

Not the worst idea in the world from the BBC. It could work depending on the other participants.

One tit replaced by another. We have people in our office who say they don't like Chris Evans, but say they liked Jeremy Clarkson, I don't get it, I thought they'd be happy with this appointment?

I guess it depends which paper you read as Jeremy Clarkson is the essence of The Sun newspaper; and the 2010s model of Chris Evans is the very essence of the Mail On Sunday. More importantly with Chris Evans track record, I suspect ratings will go up rather than down, because he'll be producing the show, and he's proven time and time again he knows how to make great TV that brings the ratings in. I just hope the rumours for the delay in shooting TG16 is so it can gain a very good looking male co-host from Frome (whom the Ginger Top had a meal with him whilst in Monte Carlo recently alongside Suzi Perry, and his manager) who has a collection of over 150 cars and growing, and certainly knows how to drive cars rather fast. One thing is sure, Chris Evans has the ego that ensures failure is a last resort.

As for TFI it was good in it's day, but I just remember enjoying the music really, and I expect that will go down the line of dance/garage etc. so I wont bother watching.

taken from the tv guide, here's the description of tonights's final ever top gear with jerimy clarkson
Motoring magazine. This episode features two films that were shot for the last series. In the first film, Jeremy, Richard and James immerse themselves in the lifestyle of the traditional classic car enthusiast. Armed with affordable classics including a Fiat 124 Spyder, a Peugeot 304 Cabriolet and an MGB GT, the trio set off on an adventure that features brown beer, breakdowns and a hair-raising classic car show. In the second film, Clarkson, Hammond and May try to become lifestyle leisure enthusiasts with the help of some incredibly cheap lifestyle leisure vehicles. Restricted to a maximum budget of £250, the trio buy three massive mileage SUVs - a Vauxhall Frontera, a Jeep Cherokee and a Mitsubishi Shogun - and then embark on a series of action-packed challenges that include battling with the Stig's Leisure Activity Cousin and a race with terrifying consequences for the loser.

www.mirror.co.uk/tv/tv-news/jeremy-clarksons-new-itv-show-5961274Clarkson's new ITV car show to go head to head with Chris Evans Top Gear Makes perfect sense as to why the Daily Mail have run a number of pieces making out Jeremy Clarkson as a Saint/Martyr. Personally, I hope Chris Evans gets the heavily rumoured Jenson Button, and Jodie Kidd in and smashes the ITV show to bits if they go head to head, in the way Graham Norton's Chat Show has seen off another former BBC employee Jonathan Ross. As Clarkson and co will find out, with sponsors they have to say nice things about their products, and the public will soon sense that.

so reports going about that jerimy clarkson is banned from ITV until 2017
him, richard hammond and james may are apparently sure of a way around the ban
BBC are doing all they can to stop them though
in an artickle i read today, it was suggested that perhaps their new show may go on netflicks only
