ok now we are into the top 150 so here is a bit about the songs I chose and why I chose them
149. Pearl Jam – Corduroy www.youtube.com/watch?v=k4BSbLTv7x0
First up we have a belting song from my man crush Eddie Vedder of Pearl Jam from 1994 album Vitalogy, The guy is a poet and his social commentary is second to none, I don't think they get the credit they deserve (apart from in my top 1000 where they feature 20 times so expect more). "Everything has chains... absolutely nothing's changed" never a truer word has been spoken
148. Haddaway – What Is Love www.youtube.com/watch?v=HEXWRTEbj1I
On the face of it this might stand out amongst all the Britpop, Grunge and Alternative Indie but it has to be the best Europop song of the 90's and in my early days when I owned 2 cd's, this was on both of them.
147. R.E.M. – Man On The Moon www.youtube.com/watch?v=tOzUZDL5ngs
If I was asked who were my favorite bands of the 90's it would be REM, I own all their albums, they were one of my first loves musically and still are today, it was a single from Automatic for the People, probably there most mainstream and most popular period and lyrically the song is a tribute to the comedian and performer Andy Kaufman
146. The Connells – '74-'75 www.youtube.com/watch?v=l-ITv4OBV9c
Ok, maybe one of the uncoolest songs in my top 150 but it just reminds me of the cover XTM did in the 00's which hit all the clubs so reminds me of the good old days www.youtube.com/watch?v=BAV1ERz2YxA but over the years The Connells version has grown on me too
145. The Beautiful South – Don't Marry Her www.youtube.com/watch?v=FH8ll5yHxWs
The Beautiful South, what can I say, Paul Heaton is a genius, we are not talking one or two good songs, they have a back catalogue that rivals anyone of this era, even the new stuff he is doing with Jacqui Abbott now is top notch, this was the opening track on their album Blue is the Colour which also feature Rotterdam, another one of my favorites so keep an eye out for that one
144. Soundgarden – Spoonman www.youtube.com/watch?v=T0_zzCLLRvE
Ahhh, more 90's grunge, the first single from 1994 Superunknown and my favorite Soundgarden song with 4 of their songs already featuring in my top 1000, Chris Cornell later went on to form Audioslave with 3 members of Rage Against the Machine and had a big solo hit with James Bond song "You Know My Name"
143. Badly Drawn Boy – Once Around The Block www.youtube.com/watch?v=RPVAipmV7jY
One of the more recent songs in my countdown being released as a single in August 1999, for a couple of years in the early 2000's Badly Drawn Boy released some brilliant singles Silent Sigh, Something to Talk About (About a Boy), All Possibilities etc
142. The Charlatans – Just When You’re Thinkin’ Things Over www.youtube.com/watch?v=blqPQP7RPXw
"Just When You're Thinkin' Things Over" was a 1995 single by the English indie band The Charlatans, released from their self-titled fourth album. It charted at #12 on the UK Singles Chart, between 1995 and 1997 their single output was amazing with back to back singles which all make my countdown "Just When Your Thinkin' Things Over" (142) "Just Lookin" (202) "One to Another" (225) "North Country Boy" (363) "How High" ( ) "Tellin' Stories" (376)
141. Dave Matthews Band – Crash Into Me www.youtube.com/watch?v=WqEOvEoCV3w
Ok for those who don't know Dave Matthews is a South African-born American singer-songwriter best known for 2001 single "The Space Between" (one of my favorite songs). In the 2010 documentary "The Road to Big Whiskey", Matthews explained that most of "Crash into Me" was inspired by his wife, Ashley Harper, whom he described as "the love of his life". Beautiful song
140. Radiohead – My Iron Lung www.youtube.com/watch?v=pRU-6vaKaf4
Just about everything Radiohead did around this time was gold, OK Computer and The Bends are probably considered 2 of the best albums of the 90's so nothing to explain here I guess

139. Ace of Base – Beautiful Life www.youtube.com/watch?v=wh-07BzfgYY
Ok back on the case, first up in this batch is Sweden's Ace of Base with some perfect Europop, I am a sucker for 90's pop, It was so much better in the 90's

"Maria" is a song by the American band Blondie, taken from their 1999 album No Exit. This song was Blondie's comeback single, their first since "War Child" in July 1982, who doesn't love a bit of Blondie
137. The Supernaturals – Smile www.youtube.com/watch?v=L_bdWVzTHIk
Scottish band with a bit of a one hit wonder, although it wasn't really a hit its the song they are remembered for. The band were nominated for an Ivor Novello Award in 1998 for best contemporary song for "Smile" along with The Verve's "The Drugs Don't Work" and Radiohead's "No Surprises". "Disco 2000" is a hit single by British band Pulp, released in 1995. It reached No. 7 in the UK Singles Chart. It was the third single from the album Different Class, following "Common People". Britpop at its best
135. The Goo Goo Dolls – Long Way Down www.youtube.com/watch?v=zK6PiJCw_Jg
"Long Way Down" is the fifth single by the Goo Goo Dolls from their breakthrough album, 1995's A Boy Named Goo. This song is often overshadowed by the low-key ballad "Name", which launched the band to household names
134. The Verve – Bitter Sweet Symphony www.youtube.com/watch?v=1lyu1KKwC74
Another 90's classic maybe more remembered for its brilliant music video and the high profile copyright lawsuit, Bitter Sweet Symphony" is a song by English alternative rock band The Verve, and is the lead track on their third studio album, Urban Hymns (1997). It is based on an Andrew Loog Oldham orchestral version of The Rolling Stones' song "The Last Time", from which it samples a main theme, and involved some legal controversy surrounding a plagiarism charge as a result. Consequently, Mick Jagger and Keith Richards were added to the songwriting credits
133. Cast – Fine Time www.youtube.com/watch?v=ET7AoIvv-f8
"Finetime" is the debut single by the Liverpool britpop band Cast, fronted by ex La's bassist John Power. The song is taken from the debut album All Change. Brilliant song from a great live band still touring and making new music today
132. Red Hot Chili Peppers – Under The Bridge www.youtube.com/watch?v=lwlogyj7nFE
"Under the Bridge" is a song by American rock band Red Hot Chili Peppers. It was released as its second single from Blood Sugar Sex Magik in 1992. Vocalist Anthony Kiedis wrote the lyrics to express feelings of loneliness and despondency, and to reflect on narcotics and their impact on his life. Kiedis initially did not feel that "Under the Bridge" would fit into the Chili Peppers' repertoire, and was reluctant to show it to his bandmates until producer Rick Rubin implored him to do so. The rest of the band was receptive to the lyrics and wrote the music.
131. Dodgy – Good Enough www.youtube.com/watch?v=kt3vZYkMB5I
"Good Enough" is a single released by English Britpop band Dodgy. The single was released on 29 July 1996 and was the band's highest charting single hitting number 4 in the UK
130. The Cranberries – Salvation www.youtube.com/watch?v=KotlCEGNbh8
"Salvation" is the lead single for The Cranberries third studio album To the Faithful Departed. The single had some success in the US (where it was #1 on Billboard's Modern Rock chart for four weeks), it reached number 8 in the Irish charts and 13 in the UK, and it showed the true colours of the new album having a darker and rawer sound than the group had previously showed.

129. R.E.M. – E-Bow The Letter www.youtube.com/watch?v=5cnIQHJ169sLosing My Religion? Everybody Hurts? nope this was the highest charting R.E.M. song in the UK peaking at #4 until stand alone single "The Great Beyond" in 2000, featuring Patti Smith it was a number of great songs on the very underrated New Adventures in Hi-Fi 128. Beck – Sexx Laws www.youtube.com/watch?v=IQfwgzoiq4c"Sexx Laws" is a song by American singer Beck, from his album Midnite Vultures (1999). It was released as the lead single from the album in October 1999. In 2014, NME named it the 260th Greatest Song of All Time.[1] It is used on the 2014 Renault Twingo advertisement and in episodes of Futurama and Daria. 127. Eagle-Eye Cherry – Save Tonight www.youtube.com/watch?v=zHxnm1-gVS4"Save Tonight" is a song by Swedish rock musician Eagle-Eye Cherry and the lead single from his 1997 debut album, Desireless. It is the album's opening track and gained substantial radio success, reaching number 6 in the UK, and number 2 in Cherry's native Sweden. Remembered as his signature song, although I do like "Falling in Love Again" (877) which reached number 8 in the UK so not quite a one hit wonder 126. The Smashing Pumpkins – Ava Adore www.youtube.com/watch?v=9uWwvQKGjLIThe Pumpkins at their freaky best written by Billy Corgan, It was the first single from their fourth album, Adore, and exhibited a new sound from the band which integrated traditional instruments with loops and electronic music 125. Roxette – It Must Have Been Love www.youtube.com/watch?v=k2C5TjS2sh4"It Must Have Been Love" is a song written by Per Gessle and performed by the Swedish pop duo Roxette. The ballad became the duo's third number one hit in the United States, and is one of their best selling releases, being certified gold or platinum in a number of countries including #3 in the UK 124. Ocean Colour Scene – You've Got It Bad www.youtube.com/watch?v=GSCRUwJk1_QBack into the Britpop, The song was released in 1996 and reached number 7 in the UK Singles Chart. "Always" is a power ballad by Bon Jovi. It was released as a single from their 1994 album Cross Road and went on to become one of their best-selling singles, with a million copies sold in the U.S. and more than 3 million worldwide reaching #2 the United Kingdom, I mean yeah its Bon Jovi but sometimes its just good to listen to some perfectly crafted pop cheese 122. Elliott Smith – Angel in the Snow www.youtube.com/watch?v=eoGMr5d120sNew Moon is a posthumous compilation album by American singer-songwriter Elliott Smith, released on May 8, 2007 by Kill Rock Stars. It contains twenty-four previously unreleased songs, most recorded between 1994 and 1997 during the sessions for Smith's albums Elliott Smith and Either/Or. It makes me sad someone who wrote the beautiful "Angel in the Snow" isn't with us anymore I'd say you make a perfect Angel in the snow All crushed out on the way you are Better stop before it goes to far Don't you know that I love you Sometimes I feel like only a cold still life That fell down here to lay beside you 121. Kula Shaker – Sound Of Drums www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zt5oDoRLpKYSound of Drums was Kula Shaker's 5th successive top 10 single Tattva 4 Hey Dude 2 Govinda 7 Hush 2 Sound of Drums 3 and it was the first single from 1999's End of the world/millennium concept album "Peasants, Pigs & Astronauts (1999)", for me it was as good if not better than their debut album K 120. Embrace – All You Good Good People www.youtube.com/watch?v=jLi2EkEQo2g
We end the day with another Britpop classic. All You Good Good People is the debut single by English rock band Embrace, on the Fierce Panda label. Only 1300 copies were made in February 1997, but the airplay received by key radio shows was enough to gain significant recognition. The single was released on 17 February 1997, peaking at number 8 in the UK singles chart later in the year. The 1300 originals, mixed by renowned dub and electronica artist Ott, are now collectors items

119. Inspiral Carpets – Saturn 5 www.youtube.com/watch?v=03cy86u6Wi4Inspiral Carpets are an English alternative rock band from Greater Manchester, they had some great songs in the 90's but only 1994's Saturn 5 made my list, it peaked at #20 in the UK chart 118. Oasis – Stand By Me www.youtube.com/watch?v=maTP315XZCQOasis are a band I never got when I was younger, I didn't like their thuggish macho persona when I was a kid but as I grew older I appreciated their music more, when everyone was buying (What's the Story) Morning Glory? I was buying Kula Shaker, Placebo and REM but one song I loved at the time and is still my favorite song now is "Stand By Me" 117. Lenny Kravitz – It Ain't Over 'Til It's Over www.youtube.com/watch?v=TmENMZFUU_0
"It Ain't Over 'til It's Over" is a song recorded, written, and produced by American musician Lenny Kravitz for his second studio album, Mama Said (1991) peaking at #11 in the UK. 90's Lenny Kravitz has some cracking tunes and he features heavily high up in my top 1000 Are You Gonna Go My Way (209) Fly Away (265) American Woman (310) 116. Foo Fighters – Hey, Johnny Park! www.youtube.com/watch?v=XnZ1Ft20pHw
Is "The Colour and the Shape" the best album of the 90's? all I know is 7 tracks from this album make my top 1000, the melodies, the song writing, the diversity of the tracks, its certainly the softest most pop the Foo's have ever been See You (636) Up In Arms (613) Walking After You (330) Hey, Johnny Park! (116) and 3 more in my top 100 115. Suede – Trash www.youtube.com/watch?v=-PdKGDMhau4
Trash is the first single from the album Coming Up by Suede, released on 29 July 1996. It is the first single written without guitarist Bernard Butler. The single is tied with "Stay Together" as the band's highest charting at number three; however, it outsold the earlier single, thus making it their biggest selling single but not my favorite that is still to come
114. Travis – Why Does It Always Rain On Me? www.youtube.com/watch?v=PXatLOWjr-k
"Why Does It Always Rain on Me?" is a song by Scottish band Travis, released as the third single from their second studio album, The Man Who. The song became the group's international breakthrough single, receiving recognition around the world. It was their first Top 10 hit on the UK Singles Chart, peaking at number 10 but just like Suede I have one song I liked better 113. Super Furry Animals – The Man Don't Give A f*** www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gp5IDrTqUBE"The Man Don't Give a f***" is a song by Super Furry Animals, twice released as a single by the group. It is based round a sample from the Steely Dan song "Show Biz Kids" - "You know they don't give a f*** about anybody else". The sample is repeated more than 50 times and so the single is claimed to feature the word "f***" more than any other song, but Insane Clown Posse's "f*** the World" in fact beats it with 93 instances. However, the live re-issue of "The Man Don't Give A f***" broke that record. 112. Real McCoy – Another Night www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pav2f4b-1ZEA change of pace with German Eurodance/europop act Real McCoy breaking up my long run of alternative rock/90's Britpop acts, Another Night was a song I couldn't get away from as a kid, it was on every Smash Hits magazine on the fee cd's and peaked at #2 in the UK chart and is still one of my go to Euro pop songs 111. The Offspring – Gone Away www.youtube.com/watch?v=40V9_1PMUGM
"Gone Away" is a song by American punk rock band The Offspring. It is the second single from the album Ixnay on the Hombre (1997). The song became The Offspring's first No. 1 on the Hot Mainstream Rock Tracks and charted at #42 in the UK and is one of the best songs they have ever done. The Offspring are the perfect example of a band who didn't get anywhere when they were amazing and had global success with much worse singles, my top Offspring songs and where they charted in the UK Self Esteem 37 Gone Away 42 Defy You (Uncharted) Gotta Get Away 43
All I Want 31 Can't Repeat (Uncharted) Can't Get My Head Around You 48 You're Gonna Go Far, Kid (uncharted) Want You Bad 15
Original Prankster 6
The Kids Arent Alright 11 Pretty Fly 1 Why Don't You Get A Job? 2 Hit That 11 110. R.E.M. – What's The Frequency, Kenneth? www.youtube.com/watch?v=jWkMhCLkVOgWhat's the Frequency, Kenneth? was the first single taken from their 1994 album Monster, which peaked at number 9 on the UK Singles Chart, The song's title refers to an incident in New York City in 1986, when two then-unknown assailants attacked journalist Dan Rather, while repeating "Kenneth, what is the frequency?" that the lyrics are about the Generation X phenomenon in contemporary mass media, sung in character as an older critic whose information consists exclusively of media products. Stipe said: "I wrote that protagonist as a guy who's desperately trying to understand what motivates the younger generation, who has gone to great lengths to try and figure them out, and at the end of the song it's completely f***ing bogus. He got nowhere." The song slows down at the end and Guitarist Peter Buck explained “ The truth is, Mike Mills, bassist slowed down the pace and we all followed, and then I noticed he looked strange. It turned out he had appendicitis and we had to rush him to the hospital. So we never wound up redoing it"

109. Red Hot Chili Peppers – Scar Tissue www.youtube.com/watch?v=mzJj5-lubeM"Scar Tissue" is the first single from the American rock band Red Hot Chili Peppers' seventh studio album Californication, released in 1999. In the UK, the song reached number 15 on the UK Singles Chart and won a Grammy Award for Best Rock Song in 2000. It'd the highest charting RHCP track in my 90's countdown with Otherside, Road Trippin and Californication from Californication making my 00's list 108. Rage Against The Machine – Killing In The Name www.youtube.com/watch?v=bWXazVhlyxQ"Killing in The Name" is a howling, expletive-driven tirade against the ills of American society which featured on their self-titled debut album. Written about revolution against institutional racism and police brutality, the song reflects the racial tensions that exist in United States; it was released six months after the Los Angeles Riots, which were triggered by the acquittal of four white police officers who beat black motorist Rodney King. It was released as the lead single from the album in November 1992. In 1993, the song peaked at number 25 in the United Kingdom, but in 2009 became the Christmas number one. In 2012 Tom Morello criticized the UK Independence Party (UKIP) for using the song "Killing in the Name"; Morello stated: "Hey UKIP and Nigel Farage: Stop using 'KILLING IN THE NAME' for your racist/rightwing rallies. We are against everything you stand for. STOP. IT." 107. Edwyn Collins – A Girl Like You www.youtube.com/watch?v=iYFz4pKclyA"A Girl Like You" is a song by Scottish singer-songwriter Edwyn Collins from his third solo studio album, Gorgeous George (1994). The song samples the drums track of Len Barry's 1965 single "1-2-3" peaking in the UK at #4 selling over 200,000 copies. Bit of a one hit wonder but what a great song 106. Santana – Smooth www.youtube.com/watch?v=6Whgn_iE5ucSmooth" is a collaboration between Latin rock band Santana and Matchbox Twenty vocalist Rob Thomas. It won three Grammy Awards: Record of the Year, Song of the Year, and Best Pop Collaboration with Vocals, "Smooth" was originally conceived by Shur as a song called "Room 17". The lyrics were stripped off and the track was given to Thomas, who re-wrote the lyrics and melody and re-titled it "Smooth", In the United Kingdom, "Smooth" first charted at number 75 in the UK Singles Chart in October 1999. On a full release in March 2000 it peaked at number 3, spending eight weeks in the top 40. 105. Cast – Walkaway www.youtube.com/watch?v=S3ZskbLa_Io"Walkaway" is the fourth single by the Liverpool britpop band Cast, fronted by ex The La's bassist John Power. The song is taken from the debut album All Change peaking at #9 in the UK singles chart, still a crowd favorite at live gigs, hopefully get to see them live again later this year when they open for Shed Seven 104. The Stone Roses – I Am The Resurrection www.youtube.com/watch?v=TbU7oVz0Uq0
"I Am the Resurrection" is a song by the Stone Roses and the final song on the UK version of their debut album. The last four minutes of the song is an instrumental outro. The single was released on 30 March 1992, and reached number 33 on the UK Singles Chart, Q magazine placed it at number 10 in its list of the 100 Greatest Guitar Tracks. NME magazine placed "I Am the Resurrection" at number 8 in its list of the 50 Greatest Indie Anthems Ever and also placed it at number 100 in its list of the 500 Greatest Songs of All Time but it just misses my top 100 of the decade 103. Manic Street Preachers – You Stole the Sun from My Heart www.youtube.com/watch?v=YkDaCWXIXCE
"You Stole the Sun from My Heart" was released as the third single from the album This Is My Truth Tell Me Yours. The single was released on 8 March 1999 in the UK, and reached #5 on the UK Singles Chart, spending 12 weeks in the top 100. I have tickets for their big outdoor date in Newcastle in August which I'm really looking forward to.
102. Elastica – Waking Up www.youtube.com/watch?v=WlOje4ly4hg
"Waking Up" is a song by the Britpop group Elastica with Damon Albarn contributing keyboards to the song. It was released as a single in February 1995 and reached #13 on the UK Singles Chart. It preceded the release of their self-titled debut album, which came out the following month. The song, written about being an underachiever, received positive critical reviews. However, it also prompted a lawsuit from the publishers of The Stranglers, who claimed that Elastica took the song's riff from The Stranglers' "No More Heroes". The case was settled out of court.
101. The Cranberries – Zombie www.youtube.com/watch?v=6Ejga4kJUts
Probably not a surprise this features high up after Salvation came in at 130. "Zombie" is a protest song by Irish rock band The Cranberries. It was released in September 1994 as the lead single from their second studio album, No Need to Argue (1994). The song was written by the band's lead singer Dolores O'Riordan, and reached No. 1 on the charts in Australia, Belgium, France, Denmark, and Germany but only #14 in the UK. It won the "Best Song" award at the 1995 MTV Europe Music Awards

98. U2 – Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me, Kill Me www.youtube.com/watch?v=IDl1c0nR5SINot a huge fan of U2 but this is a great song, released in 1995 from the Batman Forever soundtrack album. A number-one single in their home country of Ireland, the single reached number two on the UK Singles Chart. U2's involvement with the soundtrack began when director Joel Schumacher attempted to create a cameo role for Bono as MacPhisto in Batman Forever, in which the character was intended to appear at a party scene. Although both tried to make the scene happen, they came to agree it was not suitable for the film. Instead, the band offered "Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me, Kill Me" as a contribution to the soundtrack.

97. Blur – Song 2 www.youtube.com/watch?v=SSbBvKaM6skBlur intended "Song 2" to be a parody of grunge but the song was their biggest hit in the United States and is often featured in popular culture, and first appeared in the hit video game FIFA: Road to World Cup 98. the second track from their 1997 eponymous fifth studio album. The hook features Damon Albarn yelling "woo-hoo!" as the distorted bass comes in. Released in April 1997, "Song 2" appropriately reached number two in the UK Singles Chart

96. Savage Garden – Truly Madly Deeply www.youtube.com/watch?v=WQnAxOQxQIUSo far in my top 100 we have had an eclectic mix of britpop, reggae fusion, alternative rock and imitation grunge but now we have some pop in the form of Australian pop band Savage Garden, released as the third single from their self-titled debut album in March 1997 peaking at #4 in the UK, probably their best and most well known track although they have 3 others in my top 1000, The Animal Song (513), To the Moon & Back (247) and I Want You (231)

95. Super Furry Animals – Something 4 The Weekend www.youtube.com/watch?v=D1QyO4TkWts"Something 4 the Weekend" is the third single by Super Furry Animals. The title track is a more mellow reworking of the song "Something For the Weekend" from the band's debut album Fuzzy Logic. The original version is included as the last track on the single. It reached #18 on the UK Singles Chart on its release in July 1996. They had some amazing songs in the 90's and this was the best of the bunch, perhaps even peaking in the 00's with "Juxtapozed with U", "(Drawing) Rings Around the World", "Golden Retriever", "Show Your Hand" and "Run-Away" so plenty still to come from them when I get my 00's countdown sorted

94. Nirvana – In Bloom www.youtube.com/watch?v=PbgKEjNBHqMWritten by frontman Kurt Cobain, the song addresses people outside of the underground music community who did not understand the band's message. Nirvana made its first music video for an early version of "In Bloom" in 1990 however the song did not appear on a commercial release until the release of the group's second album, Nevermind, in 1991. "In Bloom" became the fourth and final single from the album in late 1992 peaking at #28 in the UK. It was accompanied by a new music video which parodied musical performances of 1960s variety shows. The music video for "In Bloom" won Best Alternative Video at the MTV Video Music Awards in 1993

828. Primal Scream – Movin' on UpThe bands only #1 single released in 1992, still touring and headlining small fesivals Just reading through the thread, pleasantly surprised by the stuff you've put in so far btw given that I think our music tastes are different, but where did you get the BIB from? It was nowhere near #1! Don't think it even made the Top 10.
