Will just do non-league for today - it's not exactly quick!
Conference
Dover - The difficult second season and I think they'll find it hard to replicate last season, but they've been tipped by the local Kent journalists/reporters/commentators to be top half possibly playoffs so what do I know? They've lost defender Connor Essam to Leyton Orient (assuming it goes through after a tribunal) which is a big loss but if they start well (which they definitely didn't last year) another top half finish could happen. At worst they've got enough to stay up. Bromley - Really hope they stay up, like their style of play (assuming they continue that way having signed ex Maidenhead striker and "big old unit" Alex Wall this summer) and they've got a few players i'm familiar with who I like to see do well (including the aforementioned Wall) but for a part time newly promoted side it's going to be a struggle. Having taken a few years to win promotion they may be able to use that as a galvanising effect (using my Reading experience here) and surprise people. They've targeted the Football League in 3 years but to do that they have to stay up first. Welling - After they lost their manager Jamie Day to Ebbsfleet mid-season I thought they'd go down, but to my surprise with Glen Little, AKA Blakey and Reading legend as assistant manager they stayed up on goal difference. I'm not sure they'll stay up this time though.
Conference South
Ebbsfleet - the bookies favourites for a reason. I looked at their signings in January (including a couple from Gillingham who had played numerous times in recent years and who I think had both played in L1 last season) and thought they had to make the playoffs last season followed by promotion this season. They didn't make the playoffs and Jamie Day left before the season even finished (nightmare for him with Welling staying up - always thought it was a strange move though). Can their new manager promoted from their academy live up to the pressure? Maidstone - Long-term I think they're targeting the Conference, with their 3G pitch and a stadium that holds 2200 IIRC they've probably got one of the best stadiums in the division. Very interested to see how they get on after all their success last season, think they'll be looking for at least mid-table. Dartford - Going to be tough for them to bounce back after relegation at the first attempt, they've probably got the smallest budget of all the Kent clubs. Margate - Don't know what to make of their chances following promotion. I thought their main aim would be just to stay up but they've signed Taiwo (ex Dover I think) and Jolley from Grimsby so they've clearly got ambition and the bookies have made them 3rd favourites The main interest for me is that Maidenhead finally have an away game close to me. Shame i'm probably not going to be able to go... (unless it's postponed). Maidenhead - Plans for a 3G pitch and they've enticed Alan Devonshire back as manager (replacing Drax Hippolyte after 8 and a half years) following his recent experience managing in the Conference. Those two things make me wonder what Maidenhead's ambition is this season, I've read very positive things recently as well... Basingstoke - Bookies have tipped them for playoffs again. I do wonder how hard it will be to replace a couple of their Reading loanees though, keeper Stuart Moore and defender Rob Dickie. I believe they were their two best players last season (Moore was even voted best keeper in the division) and they won't be going back. Moore is now Reading No 3 and if he does go on loan will only be to a football league team, and Dickie will go to a higher level too if he's on loan again. They've still got James Harper though... Eastbourne - Don't know about them but would be surprised to see them go down, they've been in this division for some time now.
Ryman 1 South
Herne Bay - I think they'll be aiming for the playoffs after their flirtation with it last season, but another mid-table finish would be just fine in what will be a fascinating season. There's more Kent derbies so that alone should make it more competitive, and last season was just stunning with record points totals for the top clubs and high goals for and against tallies I happened to notice at one point in the second half of the season for those sides around Herne Bay (i.e mid-table-playoffs). It does seem to be an exciting division to watch, rather feel I missed the boat in not going to watch a game last season...and not just talking Herne Bay here, both the Faversham-Whitstable games produced plenty of goals (IIRC 4-1 in both).

Four Four Two's predictions: Thanks for typing those up. I usually get the "new season" version of 442, but not sure I'll bother this year. Do you think it's worth getting it just for the predictions book, or are there better previews out there? (I have the new WSC waiting for me to unwrap, but the 'new season' part of that tends to have less neutral analysis and insight)

Nothing particularly new or different about this year's but it always makes for an interesting read (especially how deluded some teams' fans are). I haven't bothered with the actual magazine for years - based on the covers when I see it in the shops, it seems to have morphed into a euro football galactico fanzine.

Premier League - with rough points totals.
I will say before I post my table that I don't know much about the majority of the foreign signings. Also, the order of the Top 4, and maybe the Top 6, depends on how those clubs do in Europe this season.
1 Chelsea 85 2 Arsenal 81 3 Man Utd 80 4 Man City 78 5 Spurs 73/74 - been quite impressed with their signings 6 Liverpool 68 - have also improved
Don't see anyone else challenging. Will do the rest tomorrow.

I've been a subscriber for about 20 years! I generally try to read all of it as it is all worth reading. Unfortunately, I often fall behind, but I still keep them in the hope that I will get a chance to read them at some point. When asked to describe it, I generally call it a football magazine for Guardian readers.

Don't see anyone else challenging. Will do the rest tomorrow.
If De Gea leaves Man Utd and they don't bring in a decent replacement (Romero is no more than a no 2) then i'd put them down to about 70.
Here's the rest: 7 Crystal Palace 59 - fairly unimpressed with the signings they've made (I also think given their attacking options 1 or 2 players may go) but they're still best of the rest after what Pardew did last season. 8 Everton 57 - no European football will help 9 Swansea 56 10 West Brom 52/53 11 Sunderland 52 12 Stoke 51 13 Newcastle 49
The final lot will all be in a relegation battle 14 Norwich 42 - Alex Neil had an amazing impact last season and I wouldn't have put them in a relegation scrap but he's made poor signings. 15 Southampton 42 - Feel bad for putting them this low but Schneiderlein is a big loss and I think they're going to take the Europa League seriously, can see them making the knockout stages. The worse they do in that competition the higher I think they'll be here. 16 Bournemouth 42 17 Villa 33 - Benteke and Delph gone and I don't know if they've replaced them adequately, Gestede for one is unproven at this level. Micah Richards is a fine signing though. Sherwood has got to hope he can make more signings with PL experience or that his signings from France work well. As it is I think there'll be 3 worse teams than them. 18 West Ham 26 - Before Razzle Dazzle gets upset, there are 3 reasons for this. Bilic is unproven in the PL, Downing is a huge loss, and Valencia is injured for 3 months. 19 Leicester 21 - I don't know whether Ranieri is a good or bad appointment, but he's not Nigel Pearson and I think that makes a big difference. 20 Watford 20 Appointing a manager with no English experience and making 9 new signings is a massive gamble and I can see it ending in tears. They may end up with more points though as if they do as badly as this then i'm not convinced Sanchez will last the season.

Championship
Haven't looked at all the ins and outs yet and after last season doing a full table may not be a wise move anyway, so here's some thoughts for the top and bottom.
Middlesbrough look at least Top 2, and champions if they get Jordan Rhodes. Derby appointing Paul Clement is a gamble, more experienced managers than him haven't found the Championship easy (Steve Clarke springs to mind here). Hull may be in the mix but i'm surprised at players like Quinn, McShane, and Rosenior leaving. QPR may do well, (thinking Top 6 here) though I hope i'm completely wrong on that. I'm not sure about Burnley, some big players have left. Can see Ipswich and Wolves being in the mix for the playoffs. As for the bottom end, not sure how strong MK Dons and Preston will be so they may be battling relegation, if Blackburn sell Rhodes then they are in big trouble, and I think with players looking likely to leave Brentford plus a new manager they will struggle too. Can see Rotherham going down and i'm not sure about Sheffield Wednesday either. I'm hoping Reading won't be involved in all this! Expecting no lower than 18th with those 6 clubs mentioned being involved in a relegation battle.
League 1
Gillingham to be there or thereabouts for the Top 6. If Justin Edinburgh had been there for the whole of last season they would have finished 5th and a whisker off 4th and they seem to have kept the majority of their successful loanees which is significant. The exception is John Marquis from Millwall who has returned to his parent club and will be a big loss. I agree with Four Four Two's prediction of 7th overall. If they don't improve on last season's 12th placed finish then I think Edinburgh will be under pressure, seems to be real optimism/expectancy that there hasn't been at Gillingham for a long time.
Will be interesting to see how Nigel Adkins does at Sheffield United, was also interesting that he signed Billy Sharp again...even more surprised that we didn't get him last summer now after his loan spell the season before.

All fair points. However they did bring in Payet who created the most chances in any of the top 5 leagues last season. Downing had never followed up a decent season. Every time he got 5 or more goals in a year the season after he struggled to get 1 or 2. Song will be a bigger miss
West Ham could finish 18 if it all goes wrong or top 10 if it all goes right. Whilst Bilic I'd a gamble sticking with Sam who won 3 in 22 was equally a gamble. West Ham need a striker badly. Hernandez or Austin and then I won't be worried

So one game in and we have 3 points on the board and are in 2nd place in our division.
The bookies gave us not much chance in that game but I knew QPR would struggle this season and will be like Fulham were last year.
Rotherham were favourites to go down pre-season and losing 0-3 at MK Dons doesn't do much to dispel that.
Last year though M***wa** started with 2 wins (2-0 vs Leeds at home, 1-0 away at Fulham) followed by a draw (1-1 away at Sheff Wed) then promptly lost their 4th game at home against Rotherham and headed towards their rightful end of the table... (And we started with a win in 2008-9 as well, our disastrous season).
Last season Birmingham and Huddersfield started off disastrously but both pulled out. The latter now have Chris Powell and in spite of losing at Hull they might have enough to get out. However they are now 2nd favourites to drop.
I'm seeing Preston and Bolton listed among the favourites to go down now even though they successfully held some of the favourites Middlesbrough and Derby to 0-0 draws.
I think it's going to be one of those season where there are lots of teams taking points off each other and may even have no one major relegation candidate (unless 3 seasons ago when there was one then it was 2 from any number of others).

Might need to revise your West Ham prediction Tom I knew Payet was good but you never know until they play in the Premiership, if he stays fit West Ham will be comfortably top 10, I know its only one game but that was the best West Ham performance and result for 6 year, and that was without Valencia, Carroll, Obiang, Jenkinson or Lanzini (with maybe Song? or a new forward player coming in)

Its always funny watching all the pundits slag West Ham off, tip them for relegation because they made a mistake getting rid of Fat Sam (who won 3 in the last 23 games, no away win in 8 month). Bilic brought in a 16 year old kid who had Ozil in his pocket the entire game, Sam would have played Nolan out of position in a defensive role and we would lose 4-0 if he was in charge. One game doesn't make a season but there are certainly signs things are going to be good
