A very short stay of just a week at the top for the Eurythmics as they fall to three this week. Every point counts for Depeche Mode this week, they ditched the auto pilot and fly straight to number one. Bananarama are still hot this week and remain at two with KC & The Sunshine Band giving it up as they rise to four. The Lotus Eaters complete the Top three this week as it appears they may have had a gastric band fitted to stop them eating.

There was a period from about 1982 to 1987 when the cassette version of many releases contained bonus tracks to discourage people from home taping the LP. In some cases, including the Thompson Twins' "Quick Step And Side Kick" and "Into The Gap", the cassette version came with a whole LP's worth of remixes. (Incidentally, the new entry for Carmel at #48 in the UK singles chart was called "Bad Day" nor "Bad Boy", and is clearly a late night typo by the individual who created the database that PLAYER uses as the source for his lists.)

Ray Davies USA #6 & UK #12 (after flopping on its initial November 1982 release) song (featuring a memorable Julien Temple directed video) is a tribute to her sister Rene. Living in Canada with her reportedly abusive husband, the 31-year-old Rene was visiting her parental home in Fortis Green at the time of Ray Davies' thirteenth birthday—21 June 1957—on which she surprised him with a gift of the Spanish guitar he had tried to persuade his parents to buy him. That evening, Rene, who had a weak heart as a result of a childhood bout of rheumatic fever, suffered a fatal heart attack while dancing at the Lyceum ballroom.

Freeez extend their run at the top of my charts to an unprecedented six weeks, with Gary Byrd and The GB Experience moving into contention at number two. Wham! are aiming for their fourth consecutive number one single but Club Tropicana only moves up a single place. Biggest climb this week is from Kim Wilde with Love Blonde, up 19 places to number 12, and challenging for a Top Ten place next week.
A quite sparse selection of decent new songs this week, best of the bunch is from The Manhattans with the soulful Crazy...another vintage discovery, so much great soul and funk in this year.

The Kinks remain at #1 for a 3rd week and also enter the UK chart this week. My chart pulls in 2 entries straight into the top 20 and in reality a load of others break into the top 20, and the US chart helps more bubblers come in with Michael Jackson's song that was never a single in the UK (about the only track on the album that wasn't) and Billy Joel is back. (Yes I know maybe I should wait until the rest of you are charting this one).
The big new entries though are by Spandau Ballet and the Style Council, the latter entering just below the female who sang on their first hit, a #1. This is a slow one from them. Certainly better than the awful "Money Go Round" though.
