Depeche Mode hold onto the top spot this week on our chart fairly comfortably with KC and the Sunshine Band just behind them at two and climbing two places. Wham enter the Top three this week with their Summer offering but Bananarama's seasonal offering falls to four. Robert Plant completes the Top five with his big log, and a very good log it is!

I've been running one week ahead for a while now however I just want to bring attention to the songs that are charting in the USA at this point, and feel one week doesn't make a considerable difference.
The fact that songs like "Tell Her About It" and "The Safety Dance" are charting now although it means their charting will be "split" with those who chart them now and when they come out in the UK so they might not reach as good peak positions.
There are other US hits like "Maniac" that are probably well-enough known but were never UK hits. (And Bryan Adams of course who will have to wait another 18 months or so to crack the UK chart).

If a song hasn't been a Top 100 hit in UK I will chart them by US release otherwise I will usually wait although Asia sneaked in a week earlier this time but when I get to 1985/86 I will chart Heart songs by US release although These Dreams, Never and What about Love were all eventually hits in the UK

I'm only using the US charts for records which never made the UK list. It's hard enough picking a Top 20 from 100, nevermind from 200 candidates.

Sometimes though I charted them at the time from the US chart and during these few months I was drawing stuff from that chart.
There's a song from later in 1983 that I made a big hit and was eventually a UK top 20 hit in 1985.

The cold snap at the top of my chart is finally over as Gary Byrd and The GB Experience take The Crown! Club Tropicana disappoints by peaking at number 7, the first Wham! single not to top this chart. Highest new entry is from Spandau Ballet with Gold and The Manhattans 'Crazy' is this week's highest climber up 11 places to number 15.

A good year for Spandau Ballet then. Just missed out earlier in the year with "True" and now getting to #1 with the wonderful "Gold".
I challenge people here to predict what will be my next #1.... Madness would be an obvious contender. Their last 4 singles have peaked on this chart at 2, 2, 2 and 3 (the most recent one, Tomorrow's Just Another Day). Maybe this time they'll compensate and go all the way?
Elton John also gets a good climb having been #1 recently and the Style Council also had a #1 earlier this year then a total flop but this one at least is a hit.
Most interesting new entry by UK one-hit wonders Dave Stewart & Barbara Gaskin. This peaked in the top 75. Incidentally I don't expect Leslie Gore to do as well as they did when I encounter her. "It's My Party" is one of those that I place the cover above the original. The original of "Busy Doing Nothing" was sung by Bing Crosby in 1949 for the film "A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court"
