It's all change at the top this week as Genesis receive further help from Mama and climb to number one. Big Country keep on taking chances and it doesn't do them any harm as they rise to two. Culture Club get the highest new entry at three with Paul Young really improving at four. Last week's number one is shunted down to number five as UB40 start to regret drinking all that wine.

1 :: A Flock Of Seagulls - (IT'S NOT ME) TALKING 2 :: UB40 - JOHNNY TOO BAD {Labour Of Love LP track} 3 :: Prince - DELIRIOUS 4 :: Mike Oldfield - SHADOW ON THE WALL 5 :: David Bowie - MODERN LOVE 6 :: Talking Heads - BURNING DOWN THE HOUSE 7 :: Public Image Limited - THIS IS NOT A LOVE SONG 8 :: Chris Rea - I CAN HEAR YOUR HEARTBEAT 9 :: Level 42 - THE SUN GOES DOWN (LIVING IT UP) 10 :: Modern Romance - WALKING IN THE RAIN 11 :: Monyaka - GO DEH YAKA 12 :: Howard Jones - NEW SONG 13 :: Genesis - MAMA 14 :: Paul Young - COME BACK AND STAY 15 :: Heaven 17 - CRUSHED BY THE WHEELS OF INDUSTRY 16 :: The The - THIS IS THE DAY 17 :: UB40 - KEEP ON MOVING {Labour Of Love LP track} 18 :: Rod Stewart - WHAT AM I GOING TO DO 19 :: New Order - BLUE MONDAY 20 :: New Order - CONFUSION
Difficult to know where to shine the spotlight this week. UB40's seminal "Labour Of Love" LP charted at #1 this week. The best track on the album was never released as a single, hence "Johnny Too Bad" appears at #2 on my list for this week only. ("Keep On Moving" also makes a brief appearance as an album track).
We also have the follow-up to Mike Oldfield's "Moonlight Shadow" entering in the 76-100 region of the chart. Sadly, it never became a proper hit.
But I've decided to pick the criminally under-appreciated Chris Rea for this week's clip. He was still in the early stages of his career in 1983, slowly building a following amongst fans of Bruce Springsteen and Dire Straits.

I'll see if I can get this in Saturday night as it's likely to be the only time. I know I said I'll pause a week to catch up, but not sure I want to do that now.
Seeing Tracey Ullman, The Alarm and others enter in the top 75 but outside the top 40, for example.

Will Powers was the stage name used by the 1980s celebrity photographer, Lynn Goldsmith, when she created a self-help comedy music album satirising the self help motivational speakers who were becoming popular at the time. Of course if this single was released today it would probably be under the moniker Will Powers feat. Carly Simon, Todd Rundgren, Nile Rodgers & Steve Winwood.

"This Is Not A Love Song" never appealed to me and I don't get why it was their biggest hit. In my chart their biggest hit by a long way was "Rise".

Lydon left the Sex Pistols in 1978 and Public Image Limited had their first hit "Public Image" that year, peaking at #9. A good song, punk style with political lyrics.
At least This Is Not A Love Song is better than the horribly experimental mess that was "Death Disco".
