I class it as worse than Nick Berry. It was extremely disappointing after having done great songs in the past and then went and got to #1 with it.
Similar to Stevie Wonder getting my choice of 1984, the fact he'd previously done music I really liked possibly weighted my decision. I hadn't expected anything better from Nick Berry. "Every Loser Wins" reached #9 in my chart at the time, and when we get to this point in the retro personal charts from the 80s topic, we'll see if I adjust that, although on the whole I'm sticking fairly faithfully to my chart of the time.

161. Great rock song. 162. Best #1 in the second half of the year and a great song 163. Good but they've done a lot better songs 164. I like this too 165. Agree this is dull, albeit slightly better than the song it replaced.

# 152. Sonia - You'll Never Stop Me Loving You (1989 - 2 weeks)
Interesting that these 2 songs are together when I would put them as absolute total opposites in terms of quality. 'Stand by me' would be in my top 10 songs of all-time.

151: this single currently holds the record for the longest gap between getting to #1 in my chart and in the uk, now I have retro charts.
152: yeah formulaic S/A/W and thankfully that trio never wrote another #1 after this
153: Not their most popular work but I do like this song.
154. Wasn't the best song about a school at the time but it has interesting lyrics.
155. Sail away, sail away, sail away... ah, beautiful song...

Forgot about this thread. I can try to finish it, if anybody have the interest. Sort of interested, sort of horrified. Pump Up The Volume would be in my top 5!
