*squeeeee* We've just finished our big re-watch of the first 5 boxed sets. I cannot wait for this series - it's the first one where even as a book reader I have broadly no idea what will happen! Are we taking bets on Jon Snow's fate? I think he'll be resurrected by Melisandre...

It's felt like such a long wait this time! I've been re-watching Season 5 over the past few weeks, it really was a goodun! Hmm, I really wasn't convinced by Season 5, especially the first few episodes (very very slow) but it really ramped it up towards the end. The walk of shame was beautifully done and 'Hardhome' was one of the best episodes ever, that has to be the scariest sequence in all of GoT so far. That said for me I think I'd rank them like this (best to worst): 1. Season 3 2. Season 1 3. Season 4 4. Season 2 5. Season 5

Totally agree about the Walk of Atonement and Hardhome sequences. My biggest gripe with last season was Brienne's arc, she literally spent half of the season waiting for someone to light a candle. I think it's time she had some interaction with other characters, she doesn't seem to fit into the overall plot very well.
As far as ranking the series goes, for me it's like this:
1. Season 3 2. Season 4 3. Season 1 4. Season 5 5. Season 2 (the first episode was so bad!!)

I agree, I'm really looking forward to seeing what Brienne does now that she's (presumably) done with Stannis. Also where will Sansa and Theon/Reek go now?
Season 2 was definitely one of the weaker ones. I put it ahead of 5 on the strength of Tyrion being awesome in King's Landing, which was very enjoyable, the (somewhat controversial) Tywin and Arya scenes and 'Blackwater' which was another fantastic episode.

The other great aspect of season 2 was the introduction of Melisandre, the scene where she drinks the poison but doesn't die from it was brilliant.
Also from the first episode of season 2 and still one of my most memorable moments was Cersei commanding the guards to seize Little Finger, then let him go, then turn around. Power is power... fantastic stuff!
As someone who hasn't read the books, it's really great re-watching the whole thing, it highlights who clever the writing is (of the books and the show).

Isn't Brienne dead in the books, didn't she get hung? Might explain why they're struggling to find anything to do with her? Although I'm thinking she'll find Sansa at some point? My thinking was that Melisandre will resurrect Jon Snow, but could he also warg into his direwolf or something else?

Brienne's fate was left unresolved as of the last book (I think we're still avoiding book spoilers in this thread btw?)
The warging into Ghost theory I find incredibly far-fetched, though I've heard it elsewhere. I hope it's a more straightforward Red God resurrection a la Beric Dondarrion. The one thing that would surprise me is if he doesn't come back at all. I know the actor has said repeatedly that he won't be in season 6 but I think that's all smokescreens and lies. Jon Snow is far too fundamental to stay dead!

It's been widely publicized that Kit Harrington has been photographed filming scenes for this series so I don't think him not coming back is on the cards.

Indeed. It's very funny to see him deny it in every interview I guess he doesn't have a choice as he can't very well say 'no comment' as that would confirm it. The interesting thing to speculate on is how he will come back...

but i think S03 is the best cos that's the best book, same with s02 being the worst, really nothing happens in the book, zero... so basically I thnk the tv seasons area reflection of the books...

My least favourite book was 4, but I quite liked the TV version of 4. Agreed that 3 was the best season and book though
