Nine more entries this week from:
- The song was written by Neil Diamond with Alan Bergman and Marilyn Bergman and performed solo for his album I'm Glad You're Here with Me Tonight. It was then covered on Babs' album Songbird. The two tracks were then spliced together by radio producer Gary Guthrie, as a going away present to his wife, whom he had just divorced. Then things just snowballed from there and the two Columbia recording artists got in the studio with producer Bob Gaudio for this USA #1, Australia #4, Canada #17, & UK #5 hit.
- The frequently covered UK #63 lead single from the forthcoming second album, Cool For Cats.
- The debut solo single by the lead singer of Rufus, was this female empowerment written by the successful songwriting team Nickolas Ashford and Valerie Simpson, and produced by Arif Mardin. It originally peaked at USA #21 (R&B #1), UK #11, and Australia #37.
- The lead single from the much loved West Midlands singer/songwriter/producer & musician's first album in four years (On The Road Again), this Warner Bros single despite featuring Andy Fairweather-Low; & Led Zeppelin's John Bonham on drums; and getting playlisted by Radio 1 failed to persuade the public to even get it into the UK top 75 (apparently it peaked at #79). As a result of this lost classic (which still gets played every so often by BBC Radio 6 Music) failing, the album was not released in the UK; unlike in parts of Europe where the single made the top 20 in Germany; The Netherlands & Belgium.
- The third single from Darkness on the Edge of Town, this track is still a live staple of The Boss' concerts today.
- The UK #18 original ballad written by band member John Dummer, was produced by Roy Wood, and taken from their Amazing Darts album.
- The USA #7 (AC #1), Canada #10 & Australia #36 soft rock title track of the songwriter's 1978 album produced by Alan Parsons.
- The USA #71 Springsteen-esque second single & title track from the North East England singer/songwriter/guitarist's debut album.
- The Ohio born songwriter's USA #19 & Canada #14 soft rock title track of his third solo album.

Few thoughts...
-I first heard "Wuthering Heights" on Swap Shop, so it must have been before 10.30 when Tiswas started. Stupid Edmonds pun to introduce it which had me and my mom wondering "huh?" before it became clear. Wow, what a record;
-"Mr Blue Sky" used to get played a lot as the song before the lead out music at St Andrews, they've changed the routine now for some inane reason and that's one reason why we're struggling I recks. Jeff Lynne of course a Blue;
-"Another Girl Another Planet" is one of those epochal singles that still astounds - not just its brilliance but how it did not become a hit until a decade too late, when it promoted the Sound Of The Suburbs compilo (which featured "Happy Birthday", deep joy);
-Den Hegarty from Darts would later end up as a presenter on the aforementioned Tiswas;
-I think the better Motors track was "Dancing The Night Away", which again I cannot understand was not a gigantic hit, exquisite musicianship on the extended intro and a glorious shoutalong paean to the harshness of touring;
-"Being Boiled" is the only top 10 hit to have the word "sericulture";
-the broadcasting unions boycotted Clout because they were South African, so TOTP had to resort to a performance on Dutch television to broadcast their hit single. Which is fantastic and one of the best songs of the 1970s;
-"Public Image" shows you don't need many notes to have a memorable hook. That bassline...wow;
-Sham 69's performance of "Hurry Up Harry" on TOTP was memorable to me, not least because my dad was saying "who on earth would buy this crap?" when I was thinking "this is brilliant". I think he reached peak disgust when Pursey jumped on the joanna;
-there was some controversy about the promotion of Rachel Sweet, with Stiff being accused of pushing her as some sort of jailbait as she was only 15, but with a much more mature voice;
-there is not much disco here. And that's A Good Thing.

The greatest period for music ever, the end of 1978. I see you charted "Scenes from an Italian Restaurant" and that song, together with "Paradise By The Dashboard Light" were both out around the same time and are among my favourite songs of all time. But whilst I cannot chart "Scenes.." which was never a single, "Paradise..", by virtue of reaching #39 in the US Billboard Chart, was eligible for my chart. I see that only managed #29 in yours. But it is my all-time favourite song.
"Rat Trap" is also my favourite Boomtown Rats song. And some of the greatest punk - new wave tunes in the chart.

I always use the dates of UK releases, so "Thank You For The Music" was last # 1 for ABBA in my chart.
