After 60s decade we came back in 90s now.
Lauren Laverne was a lead vocalist of English pop punk band Kenickie. Also she was an uncredited vocalist on The Divine Comedy's 2004 single "Come Home Billy Bird" and we can hear her vocals on Mint Royale single "Don't Falter".

"Don't Falter" is one of those utterly perfect pop songs. Kind of a travesty that Mint Royale's only no. 1 comes with what can kindly be described as a gigantic pile of rancid and decaying ordure.
And Kenickie were brilliant. I remember when they broke up there was utter anguish on the old Channel 4 pop pages. They were just about the last Britpop band that offered any hope against the ever-rising tide of sh*t that was engulfing the charts.
I saw the writing on the wall though with their last charting single, "Stay In The Sun", which smacked of trying to write a hit to order rather than by evolution. When it flopped I thought that would be it - they would never get another chance with their real selves.
The last week they had in the 75, the top 10 included Boyzone, Cleopatra, a dreadful (and pointless) cover from Simply Red, and Spice Girls. And Billie had not long dropped from no. 1. Godawful.

Kenickie were amazing, Punka and Come Out 2 Nite were amongst my favourites of theirs, but there were loads of good ones.
I'm about the same age as Lauren Laverne and at the time I just couldn't quite believe she was real - how could a girl possibly be that attractive and into such good music, let alone actually be making it herself? It was a combination I dreamt of, I imagined she must really be an actress or have managers continually telling her what to say and how to look, and that really she liked the Vengaboys.

Fortunately, Lauren Laverne is far from forgotten in the UK, as she has become a rather charming television and radio presenter. I'm looking forward to enjoying her company at Glastonbury this weekend.

Loved Kenickie, and the Mint Royale track is stunning. Beautiful piece of pop. It's such a shame it only reached no.15 deserved better. It did get to no.1 on my personal chart though as did a few Kenickie tracks.

yep another fan of 'Dont Falter' I think its the best thing she ever did but also a fan of this track as well, which is I think one of Kenickies best that is often forgotten, yes it is basically 'Alone Again Or' but if you are going to copy a song make it one of the best ever.

Kenickie also did a cover of Hot Chocolate's It Started With A Kiss. This was Christmas No.1 on my personal chart in 1997.

They even have a song about P.V.C.
My halo slips over my eyes My nice dress rips and I don't cry What am I doing here When I just want to wear
Oh PVC (It's my favourite plastic) PVC (Cos its nice and shiny) PVC (and completely waterproof) Start again Start again
A lipstick stain on my new dress The fabric's scarred and I'm distressed I take my own advice Get kitted out in nice
Oh PVC (It's my favourite plastic) PVC (Cos its nice and shiny PVC (and completley waterproof) Start again Start again
You've never seen me quite this way But you'll aggree I'm twice as nice this way
The moral of this little tale Do what you like and you can't fail To get in someones way HEY
Oh PVC (It's my favourite plastic PVC (Cos its nice and shiny) PVC (And completely waterproof) Start again Start again
