You always have a chance if the manager plays to win, something Karanka didn't do, I still think Boro are down but they have a chance now, they play Chelsea, Man U, Man City, Liverpool and Arsenal so tough run in

They've picked up points at Arsenal and Man City this season and should've got something at Old Trafford.

Nigel Pearson would make a good manager for the rest of the season. He's as mad as a box of frogs but he knows how to get teams playing. He did the same for both Newcastle and Leicester when both teams looked like they were going to get relegated so he should be able to keep the Boro up. Plus he was manager of Carlisle when they looked like they were going to go out of the Football League - perhaps he'll find another Jimmy Glass!

Middlesbrough sack Aitor Karanka. Not a massive surprise - he lost a lot of support after his walk-out last season and that's only diminished further with his negative tactics and stubbornness to change, despite the poor recent form. Suggestion that his fall-out with Downing is the main reason behind this, on top of criticising the January signings (or rather criticising not being able to bring in other players instead) and the other reasons you mention.

Huge result last night for us! Thought it was fortunate, Sheff Wednesday hit the post and also had another cleared off the line (though I'll give credit to Liam Moore for that). Looking at the updates they were all over us at the end, with corner after corner and when I got notification of a goal I immediately assumed the worst...only to discover that we'd scored with the last kick of the game on the break with the keeper up for a corner! The first goal for Adrian Popa too, interesting to see that on the highlights and whether he just ran the length of the pitch to score the breakaway as from seeing some Youtube footage when we signed him in January he did look quick.
Apparently Al-Habsi was the man of the match with a series of saves. I think we're at least 7 points better off than we should be, not that i'm complaining!

Seamus Coleman has a double fracture of his right leg (tibia), he is to be operated on today and will need pins inserting, he likely to be out of football for 6 months at the earliest possibly not until the end of the year.

Horrible injury for him and Everton.
Nice to see Hereford FC get a 2nd consecutive promotion, up to Southern Premier League now, be good to see them get a little higher.

125's pretty good at that level. Marske are averaging 187 this season in the tier above - still better than many Isthmian/Southern League clubs get, and the average is over 200 if you take cup games into account.
In the same division, South Shields are averaging 1,153 this season.

May be wrong but there are some small clubs in conference south. No surprise to see Ebbsfleet and Dartford over 1000 with their most recent Conference experience. Ebbsfleet for me should have won promotion last year, be interesting to see if they can do it this year. Maidenhead's crowds are a lot better than they were a decade ago, they only seemed to get over 300 when Reading weren't playing at one point! Really pleasing, they've come a long way, the stand they built in recent years has certainly helped.
As mrh said, there are southern clubs at step 5 that don't get much. I remember when Herne Bay were last at that level in 2011-2012 they got around 200,but they were one of the better supported clubs. Don't know what's it like now, but I think it's a bigger league and Kent clubs promoted from step 6 (plus proper Kent teams like Whitstable dropping down) so I imagine it's better now. Don't think it's ever going to be the same as it was, there are Kent clubs that were in it that have gone up that I don't expect to ever be back there unless they hit financial problems (though the Herne Bay manager made an usually pessimistic comment earlier in the season that survival is the aim for them in Ryman South-apparently there's money flying around and Herne Bay have had to cut the budget).
Speaking of Ryman South, that should be a well supported league, clubs going for it with money (Faversham said a while ago their ultimate aim is Conference south) and its a high scoring league. But I don't think it is at all.

Maidenhead and Ebbsfleet, competing hard for promotion, play each other in Maidenhead's last home game of the season on April 22nd! Might try and get along to that one...

Deserved win for Reading last night, actually thought the score flattered Leeds a bit. I'm a bit wary of saying this, but 7 points clear of 7th with 7 games left, with the games we've got left I don't see us dropping out of the top 6 now. Some turnaround after the last 2 games!
Also, the Maidenhead bandwagon rolls on. I thought they'd win 5-0 at Bath City which maybe sounded bold but it finished 5-1 so I wasn't far off! From the updates I read it did look a bit flattering though.

I did wonder if they still had to play each other before the end of the season. Hopefully it won't matter too much by then...(though it probably will). I'm all for Kent clubs doing well, but my preference is for Maidenhead to win the title without doubt. Partly because it would be a bigger achievement, but mainly because I would worry about them in the playoffs...Both Bromley and Ebbsfleet have blown big leads in recent seasons and not won the playoffs.

Winning the title at home against the nearest challengers would be the perfect way to do it. It kinda makes me wish I was going...
