I would have been very surprised if Mel & Sue moved to ITV, but I wouldn't rule out them going to Ch4. Even so, if Paul & Mary both leave, the show will be off to a bad start.

Shame it will lose most of its audience..the BBC gave it the chance and is being kicked in the teeth. Greed rules which is not good for this type of programme.
It will not be the same on a commercial channel. Now we will doubtless have to put up with the chance to win £10,000 by naming a type of cake and having to spend £1.50 on telephone calls to qualify.
Still I'm sure the Tories are happy, just as their Daily Mail/ITV friends; and BFF Murdoch's Sky/The S*n, as it is another nail in the BBC's coffin in its race between it & the NHS as to which the Tories will get to destroy first.

This is terrible news I may very well stop watching as I can't see how it's going to be same. It would be awful with ad breaks.

I can just see it now, "..... and the master baker going home this week ...... (20 seconds pause) .... will be revealed after the break". If it is half as awful as Channel 4's abysmal F1 coverage, then it will be terrible.

If the Tories get their way, this will become the norm for the BBC. They have talked about getting them to outsource all programming meaning that the BBC will not own the rights to any format. Every time they take a punt on something different and make a success of it, another channel will poach it from them.

It may be big on the BBC but will certainly lose a bit of its audience on Channel 4.
There are basically too many channels to choose from now so it will be forgotton about after a while

Sad to see it move, mind you Mary Berry was debating on leaving anyway after this series, the ad breaks will be annoying though, I say give it a chance, but the audience will be low when compared to BBC. BBC were on a good thing with this with a huge audience. I bet Rylan Clark will host it with his cheesy grin.
Actually this is far worst than the Brexit outcome

And joining (apparently) Mary Berry (from a cryptic interview she gave last week) in Bakexit.... www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-37355065Great British Bake Off: Mel and Sue to quit as hosts This is all going very Top Gear for Channel 4 isn't it?

The BBC are thought to be unlikely to invoke the clause which would allow them to block a series next year, so we might not have to endure a Bake Off-free year after all.

Hopefully, Paul Hollywood will join the others in not moving to Channel 4 with the show, and in an inversion of the Top Gear debacle set up a new baking show on the BBC called something like The Grand Bake, where each week the remaining contestants bake at a different venue.
However, whoever did this to the Wikipedia entry for GBBO deserves a huge round of applause:

its not really bake off if nobody from bake off is going to be on it They'll be renaming it Sugabakes Off. I think we should all calm down as it is deja vu all over again to a similar dramatic event a few months ago that will affect our lives for years and decades to come. Remember, right now everything is fine. Nothing will actually happen until Mary Berry triggers Arctic Roll 50.

Well that's cushioned the blow a bit. Looking at the viewing figures they are the same as series 1 of bake off and improved throughout the series. With a bit of a push I reckon it could do well

Was I the only one who found watching tonight's show (I won't spoil either outcomes) was like going to visit an elderly much loved gran or aunt in hospital, and saying everything fine, when you know they are never going to be allowed to go home to their own house/flat again.
