Fave Song of the Year? 2016! Nominations needed!

Thought I'd do a thread for this this year, I know there will be a ROTW Thread done by Paul in the New Year, but for this, you get to nominate THREE SONGS that are your favourites from 2016, to qualify, they have to have charted in 2016, or been released in 2016.

When I think we have enough songs, I'll do some voting on the nominations, either through polls, rating all of the songs out of 10, or Eurovision points for your fave ten, I'll decide nearer the time.

Links will also be posted in Dance and Indie forums, to get a nice spread of tastes of music

If a song was released right at the very end of 2015 would that qualify?

My biggest hit this year was released I think at the very end of 2015 and entered my first chart of 2016.

I assume we nominate in here, not by PM.

There will also, of course, be a poll of winners of Non-Hit Single Of The Month.

This will be hard as 2016 probably has been the worst year for music since my chart started and I almost gave up compiling charts twice thinking maybe this is time to call it a day with current music but we will see.

ok my chart doesn't help my favourite song of the year only reached #6 and the song that was number one for weeks above it had the same title but 2016 has been all about this band for me so.. 


1. Bring Me The Horizon - Avalanche

again chart stats fail again my number 2 is from one of the best debut albums of 2016 but the single spend 2 short weeks at number one.

2. Sunflower Bean - Come On

2016 has all been about longevity for me rather than what was my flavour of the moment and these two bands show that.

With 5/6 weeks to go my favourite song of the year (so far) has topped the charts in 9 countries, and reached the top ten in 12 others yet it failed to reach the UK & USA top 100, so is that eligible or not?

Who'd have thought it would be so difficult to choose two songs that were either released in 2016 or in a chart in 2016. Personally I won't be going for obscure songs that noone else knows. I need to study songs that did well in my personal chart or Ive added to my iPod this year.

Oh, so this is basically going to be like ROTY, rather than a 2016 version of Hidden Treasures.

For example: Lukas Graham - 7 Years; Adele - When We Were Young; Sia - Cheap Thrills; Justin Timberlake - Can't Stop This Feeling have all topped my Personal chart this year.

Yet I would have thought it would be much better to enter something that most people have missed/forgotten about rather than a track if you were hiding under a rock you'd have still probably heard it this year. But it appears I have got the wrong end of the stick.

Just pick your 2 favourites that's what I did , no strategy , if your favourite song of 2016 was a uk number one that's fine or under 1000 listens on Spotify that's fine as well.

Both spent 2 or 3 weeks at number 1 in my chart and will be top 5 in my yearly countdown so safe bets. Biffy are unlucky not to get picked. I'm expecting them to get a nomination somewhere

Been released in UK or worldwide? I mean there are songs that have not been released in UK in 2016 but have already been released in other countries.

I'm still waiting back to here whether I'm allowed to enter a song released on 26th December 2015 which essentially means it was 2016 with regards to when it was in my chart.

I purposely do the nominations for NHSOTM only 3 weeks after the end of the month to give people a chance to choose songs from the whole month, but I'm never exact with dates, and if someone enters a song from 31st October for the November one I would allow it.

With that, I will nominate:

Lost Van Goghs - Time Of My Life

and see if Andy allows it. Those two I have nominated are way ahead of anything else in my chart of the year this year.
