99) Eurythmics - Here Comes The Rain Again (382 points)
Retro Chart Run: 12-5-4-11-27 (5 weeks)
Official UK Chart Peak: 8
One of the Retro Chart favourite acts, Eurythmics have two entries on this countdown. Here Comes The Rain Again snuck back into the Top 100 thanks to a cheeky little re-entry on Shireblogger’s last couple of charts (denying Strawberry Switchblade’s ‘Since Yesterday’ a place on this countdown as it slipped to number 101) Number one for a single week on Shireblogger’s chart in January and clocking up a total of 10 weeks there, Here Comes The Rain Again actually featured on all of our individual charts. Only ten songs this year have picked up points from every single chart; Duran Duran's New Moon On Monday has failed to make this countdown, but the remaining eight songs are all in the Top 30. So although we all seemed to like this song, nobody else placed it in their Top 5 and it seemed to come and go quite quickly. Thorney 5 points Peak: 18 2 Weeks Cool Christie 14 points Peak: 13 2 Weeks Kingpin 16 points Peak: 12 3 Weeks Andy 17 points Peak: 17 7 Weeks Mad Murray 22 points Peak: 15 Earl Purple 34 points Peak: 10 4 Weeks Raliverpool 34 points Peak: 11 4 Weeks Mark 41 points Peak: 7 5 Weeks Rubcale 45 points Peak: 6 5 Weeks Smokeyb 46 points Peak: 8 5 Weeks Shireblogger 108 points Peak: 1 10 Weeks TOTAL 382 points

98) Sade - Your Love Is King (383 points)
Retro Chart Run: 19-13-11-12-11-15-22-35 (8 weeks) Official UK Chart Peak: 6 Sade charted with three other songs this year: Hang On To Your Love reached number 30 in July (courtesy solely of Shireb!) When Am I Going To Make A Living reached number 29 in May. Despite being their biggest hit on the Retro Chart, Smooth Operator, which peaked at number 5 in September, fell short of this countdown, having amassed only 356 points. Your Love Is King spent two weeks at the top of both Christie and Shireb’s charts in March. Andy 0 points Rubcale 0 points Thorney 0 points Mark 7 points Peak: 14 1 Week Smurfie 10 points Earl Purple 13 points Peak: 14 3 Weeks Kingpin 24 points Peak: 12 3 Weeks Smokeyb 24 points Peak: 13 4 Weeks Raliverpool 44 points Peak: 6 5 Weeks Shireblogger 120 points Peak: 1 8 Weeks Cool Christie 141 points Peak: 1 9 Weeks TOTAL 383 points

97) Echo and The Bunnymen - Seven Seas (385 points)
Retro Chart Run: 33-11-10-14-13-15-24-39-35-39 (10 weeks) Official UK Chart Peak: 16 Echo and The Bunnymen hit our chart three times this year, making it into the Top Ten twice. All three of Echo and The Bunnymen’s 1984 hits have higher peaks on our charts than those they obtained on The Official Chart. Silver only reached a disappointing number 23 on the Retro Chart. Seven Seas, the third single from Ocean Rain, reached number 10 in July. Again, no points were awarded here by Christie, rubcale or myself. Christie does however award points to their biggest hit, which we’ll see later in this countdown Similarly, Shireb isn’t a fan of any of the Echo and The Bunnymen songs released this year. Cool Christie 0 points Kingpin 0 points Rubcale 0 points Shireblogger 0 points Earl Purple 1 point Peak: 20 1 Week Raliverpool 27 points Peak: 10 3 Weeks Mark 36 points Peak: 7 3 Weeks Smokeyb 50 points Peak: 9 6 Weeks Thorney 112 points Peak: 2 9 Weeks Andy 159 points Peak: 2 11 Weeks TOTAL 385 points

96) Pat Benatar - Love Is A Battlefield (386 points)
Retro Chart Run:33-11-10-14-13-15-24-39-35-39 (10 weeks) Official UK Chart Peak: 49 (17 when re-released in 1985) This is the only song by Pat Benatar that’s charted this year. The follow up single, We Belong, is currently being charted by Earl Purple, and is bubbling under the Retro Top 40. This hit the top of Thorney's chart for one for a week in January. Love Is A Battlefield wasn’t lost on Christie and I though, with it reaching number two on our charts – in both cases kept off the top by other female singers, Cyndi Lauper in my case and Barbara Mason in Christie’s. 95) Miami Sound Machine - Dr Beat (389 points)
Retro Chart Run: 10-4-7-12-22-23-28 (7 weeks) Official UK Chart Peak: 6 This was a big four week number one on my chart in August, and also scored highly for Christie, peaking at number 2 behind Diana Ross. The follow up single, Prisoner Of Love, reached number 2 on my chart, but with only me awarding points to it, it peaked at a lowly number 33 on the Retro Chart in October. They should feature highly on my acts of the year. This is really interesting, I wish I'd done it now. 1984 really was an epic year - probably my favourite ever in terms of how many great songs there were.

More and more fascinating - loving the breakdown for each song.
I actually seem to be finding out how much or little I liked certain songs without being consciously aware of it!!

88) Depeche Mode - Blasphemous Rumours (404 points)
Retro Chart Run: 15-7-8-10-17-19-26 (7 weeks) Official UK Chart Peak: 4 The first of three appearances for Depeche Mode, one of the Retro Chart most popular bands. Released as a double A side single, but Somebody has failed to make this countdown in its own right, having peaked at number 14 in November. Blasphemous Rumours was the final single to be taken from the Some Great Reward album. We’ll see the other two singles from that album later, but not for quite a while yet. Three weeks at number one for this song on Andy’s chart, and three weeks at number two for Earl Purple (kept from the top by Duran Duran’s The Wild Boys and Frankie Goes To Hollywood with The Power Of Love) Two weeks at number two for raliverpool, again Blasphemous Rumours was another casualty of Duran Duran. This has also been the fourth song so far in this countdown to have received a joint thumbs down from myself, Christie and rubcale. White Lines topped both mine and Andy’s charts for four weeks at the end of 1983. In its 1984 chart run this topped Earl Purple’s chart for two weeks in July.
