I wasn't sure where to post this, but I've made a short-list of my 100 favourite artists and bands of all-time and now I just need to compile a top 100 from these. I've put the best song by each act into a playlist and my least favourite out of these songs will determine the act who is at #100. Then I'll do the same with the second best song by each act, and my least favourite of these songs will determine the act at #99....... And so on until there are 2 acts left and I'm down to the 99th best song by these 2 acts, and the best song from these 2 will be the act who is #1. Sorry if it sounds complicated but I've tried to explain it as best as I could. I've no idea yeat how this will pan out and the #1 spot is open to anyone at the moment. If I run out of songs by an artist then they will automatically be at the next position (so we might not get to 99 songs). Anyway, I've worked out the act who is at: 100. SCISSOR SISTERS
Best Song and also what they lost with: Take Your Mama
I was toying between this, 'Laura' and 'I Don't Feel Like Dancing', but I don't think it would have made any difference as the nearest competitor to this would have beaten them all. It will be interesting to see now if that act will be at #99 or if their next best song beats the competition.

Sounds interesting although all bets as to who will be #1 are off!

Sounds interesting although all bets as to who will be #1 are off! I wouldn't bank on it. That act might struggle to make top 5 with this system.

99. JAMES BLUNT
Lost with: Wise Men Got through in 1st round with: You're Beautiful
He was never in the running for the #100 slot as 'You're Beautiful' comfortably got through that round. However, my next favourite of his, 'Wise Men' (which is another of those songs that mention Christmassy themes), wasn't good enough to keep him in beyond #99. The closest act to him was the same act that was closest to the Scissor Sisters last time so they are hanging on by the skin of their teeth.

98. THE CORRS
Out with: Breathless Saved in previous rounds by: Runaway, What Can I Do
The Corrs were the act who just scraped through in the last 2 rounds, but their luck doesn't hold out forever as they finish at #98. It was actually quite close this time too, but one song just pipped it. They did do a cover of my favourite song of all-time, but it's inferior to the original so I resisted using it.

So do acts which don't have 100 songs to their name instantly not qualify? Or am I really not grasping the method!?

So do acts which don't have 100 songs to their name instantly not qualify? Or am I really not grasping the method!? Any act could qualify, but I narrowed it down to my favourite 100. I'm hoping that the ones with less than 100 songs will be out before they run out of songs, but if they do run out of songs then they will automatically be at the next position by default. So far it's been quite easy, but could get more difficult once all the obvious classic songs by certain artists have been used up.

97. ALANIS MORISSETTE
Out with: Thank you Saved in previous rounds by: Ironic, You Oughta Know, You Learn
'Jagged Little Pill' is one of my favourite albums of the 90's, yet as soon as I pick a song from a different album she's out! The truth is, she was never a big contender as the competition was always too strong but that album still sounds great.

96. PALOMA FAITH
Out with: Upside Down Saved in previous rounds by: Never Tear Us Apart, New York, Just Be, Picking Up The Pieces
Paloma was unfortunately at the bottom end in each of the previous rounds, only just getting through a couple of times. 'Never Tear Us Apart' was the only song to appear in 2 different versions in Round One, which will give you a clue to one act which is yet to appear in this countdown.

If my maths is right, you will have needed to compile a list of 5,149 songs to complete this countdown. Wow, that is quite an undertaking.

I make it 5050 songs.

Yes you're right. I thought that to identify the #1 song, you need 100 songs for both 1st and 2nd place. And for the 100th placed act you needed to know their 2nd best song. But, on re-reading the process I see that #100 is determined by their best song only, so I agree with your total.

I have for a while been considering running an artist elimination contest so perhaps I will do so very soon this year.

95. KEANE Out with: Sovereign Light Café Saved in previous rounds by: Somewhere Only We Know, Everybody's Changing, This Is The Last Time, Bedshaped, Bend And Break
I'm trying to think if I picked the right song this time as I really thought that Keane would do a bit better. The first five I picked were all from their excellent debut, 'Hopes and fears', which remains their best album to date. No, I really do love this song, which was from their last studio album, 'Strangeland', it's just that the competition was too strong for them in this round.

94. EMELI SANDÉ
Out with: Wonder Saved in previous rounds by: Heaven, Read All About It Part III, Clown, Next To Me, My Kind Of Love, Beneath Your Beautiful
My rules state that only one version of a song is permitted per artist and, as I much prefer the solo version of 'Read All About it', I couldn't use the Professor Green version too. Five of the songs are from her debut, 'Our Version Of Events', and none are from the new album - although I suspect the 2 singles would have been next had she got any further. I'm going to see her live in a couple of months so will probably be much more into the new album by then.
