83. GABRIELLE
Out with: Hollywood Saved in previous rounds by: If You Ever, Rise, Dreams, Walk On By, Sunshine, Out Of Reach, Give Me A Little More Time, Going Nowhere, Don't Need The Sun To Shine (To Make Me Smile), When A Woman, Because Of You, I Wish, Forget About The World, Should I Stay, If You Really Cared, Say Goodbye, I Live In Hope
Doing this countdown has reminded me of how much I used to love Gabrielle back in the nineties and early noughties. Reliving the old hits has got her this far, but unfortunately her comeback track 'Hollywood' with Naughty Boy wasn't great enough to see her through another round. Give Me A Little More Time among my all-time fav singles

75. THE SUPREMES
Out with: (Love Is Like A) Heatwave Saved in previous rounds by: Where Did Our Love Go, Baby Love, The Happening, I'm Gonna Make You Love Me, Stop! In The Name Of Love, You Can't Hurry Love, Reflections, You Keep Me Hanging On, Come See About Me, Nathan Jones, River Deep Mountain High, I Hear A Symphony, Love Child, In And Out Of Love, Back In My Arms Again, Someday We'll Be Together, I Second That Emotion, Love Is Here And Now You're Gone, Stoned Love, My World Is Empty Without You, Love Is Like An Itching In My Heart, Forever Came Today, Santa Claus Is Coming To Town, Automatically Sunshine, Little Bright Star
Well I wasn't expecting Diana Ross's old band to go out just yet, but here they are. That is an impressive list of classics there though... and there's still the consolation that Diana Ross on her own is still doing well. Much as I hate to admit but I prefer Martha & The Vandellas version of Heatwave. Her voice has a harder edge than Diana's which this song needs. In fact Florence might have been better to sing lead - although there are rumours that neither Mary nor Flo even sang on this.

87. FIVE STAR
Out with: There's A Brand New World Saved in previous rounds by: Let Me Be The One, System Addict, Rain Or Shine, The Slightest Touch, Stay Out Of My Life, Love Take Over, Can't Wait Another Minute, All Fall Down, Find The Time, If I Say Yes, Whenever You're Ready, Say Goodbye, Strong As Steel
Probably not a band that would appear in many people's all-time chart, but I used to love them back in the day and they did have a fantastic run of singles from their first 2 albums. By the time of 1988's 'Rock My World' their popularity was already waning and the hits all but dried up. Five Star were great for a couple of years, one of my favourite acts of the 80s, really pleased that they've made it onto this countdown. I think most of us had moved on by 1988 though and Rock My World just wasn't really up to their usual standard, can barely recall the singles.

68. DONNA SUMMER
Out with: To Paris With Love Saved in previous rounds by: MacArthur Park, This Time I Know It's For Real, No More Tears (Enough Is Enough), I Feel Love, Hot Stuff, Dinner With Gershwin, Love's Unkind, Last Dance, I Don't Wanna Get Hurt, State Of Independence, On The Radio, I Love You, Bad Girls, Unconditional Love, Heaven Knows, She Works Hard For The Money, Love To Love You Baby, Could It Be Magic, I Will Go With You (Con Te Partiro), Love's About To Change My Heart, Breakaway, Carry On, When Love Takes Over You, Walk Away, Stamp Your Feet, Down Deep Inside (Theme From 'The Deep'), The Only One, Love Is In Control (Finger On The Trigger), Whatever Your Heart Desires, Winter Melody, I Remember Yesterday, Melody Of Love (Wanna Be Loved
And so at #68 we have Donna Summer, the undisputed Queen of Disco, who also arguably recorded Stock, Aitken & Waterman's best ever song in 'This Time I Know It's For Real'! This Time I Know Its For Real is a SAW masterpiece....and there have been plenty. Better the Devil You Know is possibly my favourite of theirs, but TTIKIFR is certainly Top Five!

67. THE HOUSEMARTINS
Out with: We're Not Going Back Saved in previous rounds by: Caravan Of Love, Happy Hour, Five Get Over Excited, Think For A Minute, Me And The Farmer, Build, There Is Always Something There To Remind Me, Flag Day, Sheep, Freedom, Bow Down, Lean On Me, Get Up Off Our Knees, I Smell Winter, The People Who Grinned Themselves To Death, I'll Be Your Shelter (Just Like A Shelter), We're Not Deep, The World's On Fire, The Light Is Always Green, Step Outside, Anxious, You've Got A Friend, Sitting On A Fence, You Better Be Doubtful, The Mighty Ship, Everyday's The Same, He Ain't Heavy He's My Brother, Drop Down Dead, Reverends Revenge, I Can't Put My Finger On It, Over There, People Get Ready, Hopelessly Devoted To Them
Another act for which I have almost used up their complete discography! To survive 33 rounds with just 2 studio albums to their name is very impressive... although it may not be the last we see of all of the band members in this countdown!

66. JIMMY SOMERVILLE
Out with: Dark Sky Saved in previous rounds by: Smalltown Boy, I Feel Love, Don't Leave Me This Way, Why, For A Friend, There's More To Love Than Boy Meets Girl, Tomorrow, Never Can Say Goodbye, To Love Somebody, It Ain't Necessarily So, Read My Lips (Enough Is Enough), You Are My World, Disenchanted, So Cold The Night, Comment Te Dire Adieu, You Make Me Feel (Mighty Real), Can't Take My Eyes Off You, Something To Live For, Hurt So Good, Run From Love, Heartbeat, Matter Of Opinion, Where Have All The Flowers Gone, Gimme Shelter, Ain't No Mountain High Enough, Victims, Heat Wave, Hold On Tight, Back To Me, By Your Side, Junk, Safe, Screaming, I Just Don't Know What To Do With Myself
I've broken my own rules here by lumping all of Jimmy Somerville's solo work in with the stuff he did with Bronski Beat and The Communards, but it's his voice together with the political statements he's been making since 1984 that run consistently throughout all of his work. Not to mention the stomping disco anthems that he's made his own while with Bronski Beat (I Feel Love), The Communards (Don't Leave Me This Way & Never Can Say Goodbye) and in his solo work (You Make Me Feel (Mighty Real)).

65. MADNESS
Out with: Sorry Saved in previous rounds by: It Must Be Love, My Girl, House Of Fun, Michael Caine, Baggy Trousers, One Step Beyond, Our House, Grey Day, Wings Of A Dove, Embarrassment, Driving In My Car, One Better Day, The Sun And The Rain, The Prince, Cardiac Arrest, Shut Up, Uncle Sam, Tomorrow's Just Another Day, Never Knew Your Name, Yesterday's Men, Night Boat To Cairo, The Return Of The Los Palmas 7, Lovestruck, (Waiting For The) Ghost Train, Madness (Is All In The Mind), NW5, Johnny The Horse, Shame & Scandal, How Can I Tell You, The Sweetest Girl, Dust Devil, Forever Young, Drip Fed Fred, Blue Skinned Beast, Money Money Money
I admit I don't know much beyond the singles (something which I may rectify soon), but what an impressive run of singles they have had, and are still continuing to have.

64. THE KINKS
Out with: Mr. Pleasant Saved in previous rounds by: Waterloo Sunset, Sunny Afternoon, All Day And All Of The Night, You Really Got Me, Dead End Street, Days, This Time Tomorrow, Come Dancing, Dedicated Follower Of Fashion, Tired Of Waiting For You, Village Green Preservation Society, Victoria, David Watts, Lola, Death Of A Clown, People Take Pictures Of Each Other, Susannah's Still Alive, Better Days, Apeman, Autumn Almanac, Father Christmas, Set Me Free, Do It Again, Stop Your Sobbing, Long Tall Sally, See My Friends, Everybody's Gonna Be Happy, Plastic Man, Till The End Of The Day, (Wish I Could Fly Like) Superman, Supersonic Rocket Ship, You Still Want Me, Wonderboy, (Don't) Forget To Dance, Dandy, Where Have All The Good Times Gone
I know a few more Kinks songs than when I started this, but I still feel like I've barely scratched the surface. Surely one of the greatest songwriters still alive, Ray Davies's band's songs have been covered by numerous artists including: Kirsty MacColl, The Pretenders, The Stranglers, Cathy Dennis, The Fall and Kate Rusby, who's version of 'Village Green Preservation Society' was used as the theme tune to the sitcom 'Jam and Jerusalem'.

63. BOB MARLEY
Out with: One Cup Of Coffee Saved in previous rounds by: Three Little Birds, One Love - People Get Ready, Is This Love, No Woman No Cry, Iron Lion Zion, Could You Be Loved, Buffalo Soldier, Waiting In Vain, Exodus, Redemption Song, Jamming, Roots Rock Reggae, Stir It Up, I Shot The Sheriff, Survival, Keep On Moving, Sun Is Shining, Johnny Was, I Know A Place, Get Up Stand Up, Satisfy My Soul, Turn Your Lights Down Low, Small Axe, So Much Trouble In The World, Rainbow Country, Mr. Brown, High Tide Or Low Tide, Zimbabwe, Easy Skanking, Lively Up Yourself, Slogans, One Drop, Concrete Jungle, Judge Not, So Much Things To Say, Why Should I, Kinky Reggae
The undisputed King of reggae, Bob Marley was taken from us tragically young. It's weird to think that in August he will have been dead for longer than he was alive, as he was just 36 when he died and it's been 36 years this year that he passed. On 'One Cup Of Coffee' his voice is barely recognisable as he was just 16 when he recorded it, but signs of the promise of what was to come were there from the get go. His backing band The Wailers feature on most of these tracks, but not all - it would have been futile to separate them.

62. ADELE
Out with: Daydreamer Saved in previous rounds by: Someone Like You, Rolling In The Deep, Set Fire To The Rain, Make You Feel My Love, Hello, When We Were Young, One And Only, Lovesong, Hometown Glory, Chasing Pasements, Take It All, He Won't Go, Skyfall, Send My Love (To Your New Lover), All I Ask, Don't You Remember, Rumour Has It, Turning Tables, I'll Be Waiting, Water Under The Bridge, Love In The Dark, I Can't Make You Love Me, Many Shades Of Black, I Miss You, Water And A Flame, Melt My Heart To Stone, That's It I Quit I'm Movin' On, Cold Shoulder, I Found A Boy, If It Hadn't Been For Love, Million Years Ago, Right As Rain, Best For Last, My Same, Tired, Remedy, Sweetest Devotion, River Lea
I'd nearly used up all of the songs anyway, but that's an impressive list of misery, heartbreak and deception! She does do it better than anybody else though, and I think she's a potential future top 10 entrant in my all-time chart - although she'll have to release 27, 29, 33 and 36 first though!

61. TAYLOR DAYNE
Out with: Willpower Saved in previous rounds by: Tell It To My Heart, Prove Your Love, I'll Always Love You, I'll Be Your Shelter, Love Will Lead You Back, Original Sin, Can't Get Enough Of Your Love, Do You Want It Right Now, Don't Rush Me, In The Darkness, With Every Beat Of My Heart, Heart Of Stone, Send Me A Lover, I'll Wait, You Can't Fight Fate, I Know The Feeling, Say A Prayer, You Meant The World To Me, Memories, Carry Your Heart, Wait For Me, Want Ads, Ain't No Good, Up All Night, Upon The Journey's End, Where Does That Boy Hang Out, I Could Be Good For You, The Door To Your Heart, If You Were Mine, Someone Like You, Dance With A Stranger, Dreams, Unstoppable, Let's Spend The Night Together, Naked Without You, Soul Dancing, Whatever You Want, Change The World, You Don't Have To Say You Love Me
Most people probably don't remember much of her beyond her first, and biggest, hit 'Tell It To My Heart', even though the follow-up 'Prove Your Love' was a top ten hit too - and just as good! My love for the first album prompted me to buying all of her subsequent material, and it shows how much I love the first 3 albums by the fact that every track from them has been used and kept her in the contest. 'Willpower' was from the 1988 Summer Olympics soundtrack, and I have to tell you that it was extremely close between her and another (much more successful) female artist this round! And so, each artist left has used up 40 of their songs (enough to fill a double-CD greatest hits compilation!), and while some are running out of steam and probably won't make it into the top 50, there are also quite a few who still have much greatness left to pick from! It should be interesting to see what happens from here!

60. LUTHER VANDROSS
Out with: Lovely Day Saved in previous rounds by: Never Too Much, I Really Didn't Mean It, Stop To Love, I Gave It Up (When I Fell In Love, Give Me The Reason, The Best Things In Life Are Free, So Amazing, Love The One You're With, Dance With My Father, Any Love, Always & Forever, Love Is On The Way (Real Love), 'Til My Baby Comes Home, There's Nothing Better Than Love, Endless Love, Ain't No Stopping Us Now, Shine, See Me, Anyone Who Had A Heart, If I Didn't Know Better, Little Miracles (Happen Every Day), Power Of Love/Love Power, Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas, I Wanted Your Love, Buy Me A Rose, Evergreen, All The Woman I Need, Hello, Because It's Really Love, Your Secret Love, Don't Want To Be A Fool, She Won't Talk To Me, Here And Now, Killing Me Softly, A House Is Not A Home, Reflections, Take You Out, If It Ain't One Thing, What The World Needs Now Is Love, Bad Boy/Having A Party
Soul legend Luther Vandross has done a lot better than I thought he would here, despite releasing one of my all-time favourite albums in 'Give Me A Reason' - which was some 30 years ago last year.

59. DUSTY SPRINGFIELD
Out with: Quiet Please There's A Lady On Stage Saved in previous rounds by: Son Of A Preacher Man, You Don't Have To Say You Love Me, I Only Want To Be With You, What Have I Done To Deserve This, Twenty Four Hours From Tulsa, I Close My Eyes And Count To Ten, I Just Don't Know What To Do With Myself, You Don't Own Me, Nothing Has Been Proved, In Private, Anyone Who Had A Heart, Wishin' And Hopin', The Look Of Love, How Can I Be Sure, Goin' Back, Some Of Your Lovin', Little By Little, In The Middle Of Nowhere, Stay Awhile, Give Me Time, Reputation, Am I The Same Girl, Losing You, Breakfast In Bed, If You Go Away, Love Power, Take Another Little Piece Of My Heart, (They Long To Be) Close To You, Will You Love Me Tomorrow, The Windmills Of Your Mind, All I See Is You, You've Got A Friend, Wherever Would I Be, I'll Try Anything, Make It With You, Oh No! Not My Baby, Your Hurtin' Kind Of Love, That's How Heartaches Are Made, Island Of Dreams, Arrested By You, Spooky
That's like a songbook of classics listed there! I know a lot of the songs are better known by other singers, but her voice is unmistakeable and faultless on each and everything she recorded. The sixties were her most successful decade but her career was given a much welcomed revival by the Pet Shop Boys in the late eighties - and that band could well be turning up again a bit later in this countdown!

58. DOLLY PARTON
Out with: Together You And I Saved in previous rounds by: Jolene, Islands In the Stream, I Will Always Love You, 9 To 5, Here You Come Again, Just When I Needed You Most, Coat Of Many Colours, Love Is Like A Butterfly, In The Ghetto, Heartbreaker, The Salt In My Tears, Everything's Beautiful (In It's Own Way), I Believe In Santa Claus, Dumb Blonde, Applejack, Christmas Without You, If, Why'd You Come In Here Lookin' LIke That, Just Because I'm A Woman, Put It Off Until Tomorrow, Yellow Roses, With Bells On, Winter Wonderland-Sleigh Ride, Blue Smoke, To Know Him Is To Love Him, Rudolph The Red-Nosed Reindeer, I Know You By Heart, The Last Thing On My Mind, My Tennesse Mountain Home, A Christmas To Remember, Go Tell It On The Mountain, Joshua, Once Upon A Christmas, Baby I'm Burning, The Bargain Store, The Greatest Gift Of All, Eagle When She Flies, To Daddy, Tennessee Homesick Blues, D.I.V.O.R.C.E., Baby It's Cold Outside, Better Get To Livin'
I didn't realise how many Dolly Parton songs I knew and loved. She famously wrote and recorded the original of Whitney Houston's mega-selling 'I Will Always Love You', and also the theme to the seventies classic sitcom 'Butterflies', which starred a young Nicholas Lyndhurst.

57. O.M.D.
Out with: 2nd Thought Saved in previous rounds by: Enola Gay, Joan Of Arc, Souvenir, Maid Of Orleans (The Waltz Of Joan Of Arc), Pandora's Box, Locomotion, Sailing On The Seven Seas, Electricity, So In Love, Tesla Girls, (Forever) Live And Die, Walking On The Milky Way, Messages, Telegraph, Talking Loud And Clear, Dreaming, Genetic Engineering, If You Leave, Call My Name, Dream On Me (Based On Love's Theme), Then You Turn Away, Secret, We Love You, Stand Above Me, Sister Marie Says, Whole Again, Shame, History Of Modern Pt. 1, If You Want It, Dresden, Everyday, Night Café, Metroland, Universal, Thrill Me, Never Turn Away, She's Leaving, La Femme Accident, Red Frame White Light, Love And Violence, The Misunderstanding, The More I See You, The New Stone Age
Orchestral Manoeuvers In The Dark were one of the first synth-pop bands to become successful in the eighties, although they originally released their first single, Electricity, in 1979. They've never really gone away, making frequent comeback albums during the 90s and the 21st century. Of all the infectiously catchy tunes they wrote, their only number one was recorded by another group, Atomic Kitten - whose only decent hit 'Whole Again' was co-written by frontman Andy McCluskey. Incidentally, OMD did record their own version of 'Whole Again' later for the compilation album "Liverpool: The Number Ones album", which is why I've included it here.

56. THE KILLERS
Out with: The Way It Was Saved in previous rounds by: Somebody Told Me, When You Were Young, Human, Mr. Brightside, All These Things That I've Done, Boots, Bones, Smile Like You Mean It, Don't Shoot Me Santa, A Great Big Sled, Here With Me, Read My Mind, Spaceman, For Reasons Unknown, The Cowboys' Christmas Ball, The World We Live In, Dirt Sledding, Tranquilize, Midnight Show, Glamorous Indie Rock & Roll, I Feel It In My Bones, Jenny Was A Friend Of Mine, Miss Atomic Bomb, A Dustland Fairytale, Joseph Better You Than Me, Christmas In L.A., I Can't Stay, ¡Happy Birthday Guadalupe!, Everything Will Be Alright, Sam's Town, Runaways, Joel The Lump Of Coal, Neon Tiger, Shot At The Night, Why Do I Keep Counting, This Is Your Life, Uncle Jonny, The River Is Wild, On Top, I'll Be Home For Christmas, Ruby Don't Take Your Love To Town, Romeo And Juliet, Joy Ride, Just Another Girl
Unfortunately I couldn't justify including Brandon Flowers' solo career or else they'd be higher up, but nonetheless the Killers are one of the "newest" acts to make it this far on the countdown. There are still a couple of even newer acts left in, but more about those later.

Another band that I don't know much about outside of the hit singles.. but what an incredible run of those they have had. I've also learned a few new ones while doing this so it's all good education... Good old 'Santa Claus Is Coming To Town' has cropped up a fair few times so far!!

Whatever happened to Shania? She had a massive album in the late nineties, then a pretty good one in 2002, and since then.... well we're still waiting for the follow-up!

53. CARPENTERS
Out with: Now
My Top Ten: 1. Only Yesterday 2. Superstar 3. Top Of The World 4. I Won't Last A Day Without You 5. For All We Know 6. Yesterday Once More 7. Rainy Days And Mondays 8. Goodbye To Love 9. Ticket To Ride 10. (They Long To Be) Close To You
It was getting too much typing out every song so I've reduced it to just my top 10. These top tens aren't set in stone, as my favourite songs change all the time, but it's the songs that made it through the first ten rounds just for simplicity. Back to the Carpenters (or just "Carpenters" as they were known on their records), and it may not have ever been cool to like them but they have remained popular for close to 5 decades now, due to Karen's oustanding voice and a stellar catalogue of songs that have stood the test of time. I feel a bit bad that 'Now' is the song they've gone out with as I have since discovered that it was the final song Karen ever recorded. For anybody who didn't know, she died in 1983 aged just 32.
