This starts on Saturday - full coverage on Eurosport. Don't know if ITV or BBC are bothering with any coverage this year. The last place in this year's Confederations Cup is also up for grabs. As is often the case in Africa, some notable names missed out on qualification including former champions Nigeria, South Africa and Zambia and recent form teams Cape Verde and Ethiopia. Guinea-Bissau qualify for the first time after winning their group ahead of Congo and Zambia, while Uganda reach the finals for the first time since 1978. FIFA ranking in first brackets, African ranking in second brackets: GROUP A Gabon (hosts) (108) (33) Burkina Faso (53) (8) Cameroon (62) (12) Guinea-Bissau (68) (15) GROUP B Algeria (39) (5) Tunisia (36) (4) Senegal (33) (1) Zimbabwe (103) (30) GROUP C Ivory Coast (champions) (34) (2) DR Congo (49) (6) Morocco (57) (10) Togo (90) (23) GROUP D Ghana (54) (9) Mali (64) (13) Egypt (35) (3) Uganda (73) (18)

I'll be in America for most of this tournament, which means the Internet will be only source of information. I am therefore delighted to announce that Panda's thread will be the official Africa Cup of Nation 2017 media representative to Shireblogger.

As is often the case in major tournaments, a cagey opening... Guinea-Bissau scored a 90th minute equaliser to keep their fairytale run going.
Gabon 1-1 Guinea-Bissau Burkina Faso 1-1 Cameroon

If this is the best 16 teams in African football, then it is in a worrying state, the games so far, have been generally awful.

They have eurosport 2 as well which they could have used, but had something with snow on it instead. Not good again today, Ghana were good for 45 mins, then eased off and it could have cost them. The pitch that Egypt played on was awful.

Seems like it's wide open at the moment, no team has stood out for me so far.

Burkina Faso 1-1 Cameroon Gabon 1-1 Guinea-Bissau
1. Burkina Faso 3-5 (+2) 2. Cameroon 3-5 (+1) 3. Gabon 3-3 (0) 4. Guinea-Bissau 3-1 (-3)
Guinea-Bissau got their first point with an injury time equaliser. A 1-0 win wouldn't have been enough to take Gabon through anyway as Cameroon have scored more goals.
Quarter-final line-up as it stands: Burkina Faso v Tunisia DR Congo v Egypt Senegal v Cameroon Ghana v Morocco
