You've possibly heard the All Seeing I version. This is the original:
You won't be seeing "Last Train To Clarksville" in my chart now as it was already a hit in 1966 when it peaked at #3.

Spotify has inferior versions of the New Vaudeville hits by the way so find the real version on youtube, the ones with Alan Klein singing on them. Perhaps the versions on Spotify were recorded by some incarnation of the New Vaudeville Band but the singles (aside from Winchester Cathedral, which has passed this chart by anyway) had Alan Klein on vocals. Having said all that, Peek-A-Boo is the worst of their 4 singles. Even the minor hit "Green Street Green" is better than it.
Sopwith Camel is also not on Spotify.

This week's new entries:-
Monkees - LAST TRAIN TO CLARKSVILLE :: Charting just 3 weeks behind "I'm A Believer", this was the Monkees' debut single in the USA. It features in no less than 7 episodes of the tv show, and was instantly familiar to those of us who grew up watching re-runs of the Monkees after we got home from school. It is my second favourite Monkees song.
Marvin Gaye & Kim Weston - IT TAKES TWO :: Kim Weston's only UK chart hit was written by her husband, William "Mickey" Stevenson, alongside Sylvia Moy. In 1990, a much inferior cover by Tina Turner and Rod Stewart reached the Top 5.
Otis Redding - TRY A LITTLE TENDERNESS :: This track spends 2 and a half minutes gently building, until Redding lets loose. Booker T Jones' organ is prominent, and the single was produced by Stax founder Jim Stewart with Isaac Hayes. It is one of two tracks in this week's Top 50 to feature on "The Commitments" soundtrack, alongside "Mustang Sally".
Rolling Stones - YESTERDAY'S PAPERS :: Side 1 track 1 on the Stones' "Between The Buttons" LP which entered the album chart this week at #12, on its way towards the Top 3. The album isn't amongst their best, and none of the tracks were released as singles in Britain. Back in 1967, some labels still thought that putting singles on albums ripped off the fans, and they consequently adopted a policy of LPs containing only original material.
The sharp eyed amongst you will notice that "Clarkesville" is spelt differently on the sign in the video, compared to the single's sleeve.

Lesley Gore - California Nights
An edit of the song (removing the second verse and refrain) was lip-synced by Gore on the January 19, 1967 episode of the TV series Batman, "That Darn Catwoman". She played Pussycat, the Catwoman's protege, who also wanted to be a singer.
Maybe someone from the older members of Haven even remember this TV series.

22nd January 1967
Still trying to keep the very biggest top 3 hits more or less accurate with what I loved at the time, mixed with higher chart positions for ones I've loved since, many of them have hit number one as oldies over the years. Loads of new discoveries though as I trawl the Billboard Hot 100 for each week so I've had to expand my chart to 60!
1 ( 1 ) I’M A BELIEVER The Monkees 2 ( 2 ) MATTHEW AND SON Cat Stevens 3 ( NEW ) LAST TRAIN TO CLARKSVILLE The Monkees 4 ( 7 ) SITTING IN THE PARK Georgie Fame 5 ( 3 ) SINGLE GIRL Sandy Posey 6 ( 6 ) SUNSHINE SUPERMAN Donovan 7 ( 5 ) SUMMER WINE Nancy Sinatra & Lee Hazelwood 8 ( 9 ) SUGAR TOWN Nancy Sinatra 9 ( 4 ) (I’M NOT YOUR) STEPPIN' STONE The Monkees 10 ( 13 ) GEORGY GIRL The Seekers
