Cat Stevens stays a 3rd week at #1 with Marvin Gaye & Kim Weston providing a challenge to the top as Paul Jones fails to make any progress. The Rolling Stones also fail to make progress with "Let's Spend The Night Together" but are now more likely to challenge with "Ruby Tuesday".
As well as having the #1, Cat Stevens also wrote the 2nd highest entry, which has been recorded by the Tremeloes without Brian Poole. Maybe hard to imagine the Tremeloes without their lead singer. A bit like the Wurzels without Adge Cutler...
In between the Left Banke follow up "Walk Away Renee" with "Pretty Ballerina".
Charlie Chaplin's an actor, of course, and pretty popular but he has a hidden talent in songwriting, and wrote "This Is My Song" for "A Countess In Hong Kong" and that gives Petula Clark her latest hit.
Now make your way down to Somerset for some fizzy alcoholic apple juice

This track received an Oscar nomination, and made the US Top 40, but, surprisingly, went nowhere in Britain. Released this week in 1967. Sonny and Cher - THE BEAT GOES ON : Destined to be a Top 10 hit in the USA and Canada. Sheffield electronic band, the All Seeing I, took their cover (using vocals by Cathy Rich) to #11 in 1998. Eddie Floyd - KNOCK ON WOOD : Written by Eddie Floyd and Steve Cropper, this is the original version of the song which has also been a hit for Otis Redding & Carla Thomas, David Bowie, and Amii Stewart (in two versions). Engelbert Humperdinck - RELEASE ME : Familiar enough to need no introduction. But if you'd like to know more, and post your own review, then please go here:- The Haven Opinion - Release MeGuy Darrell - HARD LOVIN' : My discovery of the week. Hailing from Kent, Darrell had been releasing singles since 1961, but had to wait until 1973 for his one and only official hit, which was a re-release of a 1966 single. As lead singer of Deep Feeling, he also had a solitary hit in 1970. "Hard Lovin'" bubbled under on the Record Retailer chart this week in 1967, and sits somewhere between Northern Soul and Bubblegum Pop.

29th Jan
I've had to expand my chart to 75, too many good songs in the charts, and I've also added in new-ish album tracks for january 1967 that I loved around the time, or in the next few years following.
video for the Four Tops cover from Johnny Rivers, big on oldies radio in the States on my regular Florida hols in the 90's, as The Four Tops go top 10 with a classic of their own. Cat Stevens back on top as The Tremeloes version of his song enters at 19. Charlie Chaplin wrote Petula Clark's standard (honest!), and several More Of The Monkees tracks that were played on their TV show enter the chart. The Mamas & The Papas cover from the 5th Dimension stays ahead of an album track from them, which was on their 1973/4 budget hits albums that I got into big in 1974, along with The Monkees tracks on their budget albums in this chart from 1973/4. Two of the tracks were written by Neil Diamond, along with his own entry.
1 ( 2 ) MATTHEW AND SON Cat Stevens 2 ( 3 ) LAST TRAIN TO CLARKSVILLE The Monkees 3 ( 1 ) I’M A BELIEVER The Monkees 4 ( 6 ) SUNSHINE SUPERMAN Donovan 5 ( 4 ) SITTING IN THE PARK Georgie Fame 6 ( 10 ) GEORGY GIRL The Seekers 7 ( 18 ) LOVE IS HERE AND NOW YOU’RE GONE The Supremes 8 ( 15 ) STANDING IN THE SHADOWS OF LOVE The Four Tops 9 ( 5 ) SINGLE GIRL Sandy Posey 10 ( 11 ) RUBY TUESDAY The Rolling Stones

In all my 1967 charts I have been incorrectly crediting songs to "Jimi Hendrix" when it should be "Jimi Hendrix Experience" who are a full band.
I remember being very specific in 1999-2000 when a certain ex-member of Inspiral Carpets also had a band with his name followed by the word "Experience", and that they were a full band.

Sorry to hear that as it is so annoying when your PC or internet plays up (like I had two weeks ago).

I didn't have normal internet connection this time last week. My Virgin hub packed in around midnight Wednesday night (1st February) and my new one arrived Saturday.
I had to tether my mobile to get internet. I was still able to run my script to find new releases.

He hasn't been online since 10th February so presumably is still having problems with his internet connection. If he hasn't posted the combined chart soon, one of us can compile it to keep this going until he returns.
